Not a bad container story, but we've had someone stealing ammo boxes around here.
Kinda strange...
Dumping the contents and taking the container.

This thread made my Thursday afternoon much more interesting.
I'm sure after reading, some future GCing will include this thought popping in my head
"this def IS/IS NOT a nude friendly cache"
Shoes are optional

The questions will never stop now
What is "transparent map"? I see it listed on the GPSFileDepot link.
Is the map used in my Evo geocaching app a topo or city map?
I wish I would have paid more attention during my college Geography Maps class now!
GPS was just getting started then and the professor talked about it but I didn't get it.
Ehhh I'm still hiking up that learning curve!
These are questions that I should be asking a live person, but I'm the only person really into GCing in my area that I know!
I need to meet some peeps...

Thanks Coggins, going to try that. Actually came across that site last night but was baffled by the options, thanks for narrowing it down.
I spent A LOT of time on the boards & internet learning about maps & what I'm looking for.
I finally understand I'm looking for good topo maps - the Venture comes with just a basemap (yuck!).
Looks like the maps cost $100 to purchase from Garmin (YIKES).
Some of the Garmin 62s series of GPSr comes with preloaded maps. I still don't know WHICH preloaded maps though. Anyone know?
I want to be able to find a multi, plug in the new coords, and have a visual of where I'm going.
Yesterday I tried a multi and the final stage was in a mall complex. There's no way I can drive around with the Venture basemap and not have an accident. I need to have some idea where I'm going.

I'll share this link with the CO's in my area that were hit.
Sure wish the GC'er would READ THIS LINK.
Ehhh, I'll just send it to him as well.

I often use the HTC Evo (smartphone) and the Etrex Venture for caching.
However, I favor my Evo because the map view. It shows a more realistic view of the terrain/area - whereas the Etrex shows clumps of land (yellow) and water (blue) but very little detail. I often use the Etrex for multi's when I have to enter coordiante info in - but it's so frustrating to use the Etrex because I don't have any idea where I'm going. I can't visuaize my destination a mile away and only have a pointer and yellow mass directing me.
Is there a designated GPSr that functions with a map view like the Evo? Or can I buy maps that give me a different view for the Etrex? If $ isn't a consideration, what do you recommend to rectify this prob?

If the cache owner knows that it's a throwdown, because he/she didn't place that container, doesn't that make the "found it" log "bogus"?
Therefore, the cache owner can delete the false logs and invite the power cacher to re-log the correct "DNF".
Well played! I like the way you think.

Throw downs is the name for it eh?
Mmmmeh not a fan of it myself.
So it's all about the numbers for them?
It bugged me when I originally saw the logs - but today I plan on searching for one of them and started wondering if there are now 2 containers to contend with.
Thanks for the scoop.

A couple months ago a powercacher (8,000+ finds) blew threw my area. I noticed on the GC's he couldn't find he "replaced" containers - I figure so he could log them as "found" - but perhaps he really thinks he's helping the CO's also. I know one GC actually was MIA, but there was no indication (recent logged DNF's) that the others were.
Anyone else experience this issue? And what's the scoop with it?

I started caching on an Iphone, then HTC Evo, but wanted to switch it up to a device that allows me to enter coords & has decent battery life. Received the Explorist GS as a gift but I'm unsure if it's right for me. I have two batteries for the Evo so I can cache any time, BUT can't find puzzle caches because I can't find an easy way to navigaate to manually entered coords.
Should I trade the Explorist GS in for a device paperless device that's better for this? If so, which one?

I love this post, I've been wondering about this as well.
In my pack I have: tweezers, Sharpies (fine point, non-bleed), my swag, pepper spray (I hike a lot), hemp rope, baggies, extra batteries, water, matches, fire starters. Today I printed extra logs for the pack.

Every time I cache it's a form of stress relief. I stumbled upon this hobby by my love of hiking...My hikes lead me to disc golf, then I heard about Letter Boxing - I never tried Letter Boxing because I fell in love with Geocaching! After a GC'ing hiatus I'm back at it - it's put a hurtin on my disc golf game though. I usually cache alone (as with hiking) and tune into my surroundings. Pure peace.
Navigating to Waypoint Using Android & Geocaching app?
in GPS technology and devices
Posted
I use my HTC Evo (smartphone) and Etrex Venture for GCing.
I FINALLY figured out how to add a waypoint (for multi's) in my HTC Evo via the Geocaching.com app.
I can navigate to the waypoint using the compass, but I would like all navigation options to be available (map, compass, driving directions). Is that possible?
