Threads like this don't help anything at all. Problems are fixed person to person. NOT in fora of this nature.
I think......

GC3YJ75 has been finally published. I had to change the original challenge several times to meet the reviewer's requirements. It is finally published and ready to be found. The original challenge was much more interesting and challenging but this finally passed their mustard.
So all this involves is visiting 25 EC's and you can log the cache? I can see the PT cachers going berserk with stupid ideas.

Future International EarthCache Day dates:
13 October 2013
12 October 2014
Here is the home page where the future Earth Science Week Dates are always posted:
http://www.earthsciweek.org/whatisesw/futurethemes.html
EarthCache Day is always held on the first day of Earth Science Week, which is a Sunday.
If it makes more sense for some folks to do their events and activities on the Saturday (or the Monday if that is a holiday weekend in some areas), that is fine too! But we will focus the observance on Sunday.
The above link has just been added to http://www.geosociety.org/earthcache/EarthCacheDay.html
Noted. Thanks very much.

This year things were super complicated for me to prepare an event. Several out-of-the-country trips left me little time to prepare and subsequently publish a decent event. However, I still managed to publish one EC to commemorate the day:
ALL visitors WELCOME!!!
-
There is no Souvenir available this year, but we are working on having one available for next year.
If you log an EarthCache on EarthCache Day, or attend one of the events listed above, feel free to use this art in your geocaching profile (but please don't use it in other ways, like stickers, etc.) - https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/74805_291891504248439_553530430_n.jpg
Best wishes, and have a great weekend!

Pity. It would have been an added incentive for cachers to participate more actively

I do believe I'll try my hand in setting up an event here in SW PA.
Good for you!

Daniel,
Anything similar to this going on on April 22nd, 2012 which is Earth Day (US)
Sorry, Nothing planned for that day. It will take me the next two months just to get together the reading material for all the attendees. Then its compilation time and write up time.

thank you very much for the info.

International EarthCache day has always been the first Sunday of Earth Science Week.
This year it is 14 October.
As always, I will be able to provide a small package of materials for anyone who organizes an official geocaching event to mark International EarthCache day to use as prizes as part of the event.
A double thank you for the info.

You will soon have mail...-

I'm Ok with the name but I do recognise that in some instances there should be a little more latitude given to the cache developer when topics fall in that grey area where you can't get the full picture unless you delve into other branches of the natural sciences.
Having said this I don't think that the term "NaturalCaches" would ever catch on

I was thinking of having an Earthcache day event this year. Is it possible to get some support from GSA i.e goodies to give away or display? Thanks.
Likewise. In 2008 Geoaware gave a few small mementos towards our event. Any chance of some this year?
-
It's usually the 1st day of Earth Science Week:
2012 October 14-20
2013 October 13-19
Ok. Thanks. I'm going to aim for October 14.
In case you're wondering I'm starting to set up "PT International EarthCache Day 2012" event cache........

Every two years I seem to ask the same question but on what date does International EarthCache Day fall on this year?
I think that the date of the international EC day which exists since 2006 is associated with the date of the Earthcience week
You can look up the dates for 2012 and 2013 here
My guess for 2012 would be October 14. I do not know, however, whether the large EC event which will take place in September 2012 will change the logic behind the dates chosen in 2006-2011.
Thank you. Yes, the big EC event might shift things.

Every two years I seem to ask the same question but on what date does International EarthCache Day fall on this year?
(I seem to remember a very useful reply by Geoaware a couple of years back but I can't find it now)
-
If there's ever a vote on this issue, I'll stick to my view: NO premium EarthCaches!
-
It's 'Ironic' that I came across this link seeing I had made a comment on Daniel's page about a couple of years ago, "All those that read the whole information/detail page above put up their hands ", to which there was only one reply!!! .... one from Daniel "I do" (LOL)
- I am referring to his #1 rated Earthcache in Hawai`i ~ Olivine (Mg,Fe)2SiO4 - DP/EC38
I still do!
Merry Christmas everyone

.........
If I think someone made an armchair log on any of my caches, I will give them a week to come up with a picture (GPS in hand) and the right answers.
This is another topic altogether but my view, now from a hardened and calloused EarthCacher's point of view is that there is only one looser in this process - the cheater! I don't bother with people like that anymore and they don't get a thank you for visiting note from me either.
-
.... We need to get more educators using the earthcaches as a teaching tool.
I concur fully.
-
Thank you Lynx. Good to have a countryman's view.
-
...
I prefer questions that require me to understand the cache page and what is to be seen at the location and not just to write down some words which I can do also if I do not understand anything at all.
Cezanne
I tend to agree with you. It does make the experience that much more rewarding.
-
Regarding the shift towards brevity, did that coincide with the review/approval process moving from GSA to Groundspeak? Not sure of the timing of either, but I was curious as to whether they were connected.
Interesting question that I cannot answer.
-
Daniel, either way seems OK. All of yours are great.
As a side, but related note. I find it rather amusing that suddenly, brevity is valued!
I did find that a little funny too with all the emphasis on adding more and more material to the cache pages to just get them through review.
I am with you 'Chokecherry' and I have several emails to prove it. Yes, I have saved every email pertaining to getting all 60 ECs published! Many have requested lengthening the content. I am glad to see it is different now. I have noticed how brief many of the newer ECs are described. Perhaps some are too brief?
Thanks once more for the input. Great to have so many views.
-
Thank you all for the input so far. Any more views will be welcome.

I personally like longer texts together with a strong learning experience on site. I like if the text is telling me more than just what is needed to answer the questions. The more information is provided on the cache page (as long as it does not collide with the learning experience), the better for me.
Cezanne
I can understand your point of view but there are instances where the cache page must be left sufficiently generic (and short) so as not to spoil the "surprise" on site.
Welcome to the candid camera corner.
