  1. When I started geocaching, I really thought of it as a solo experience. Later, I started caching with two or three others, but we used the "I found it, but I'm not gonna tell you where" policy. Since then I have cached in small groups of two or three, but usually use the "all for one, one for all" concept. I have also cached a few times in much larger groups, where maybe one person actually found the cache, and we all logged the find. I still don't really like the last concept, but it really comes down to what you personally enjoy. There are many ways of caching, and nobody can really tell you how to do it except you.

    yet you still try...

  2. I just can't believe that some people still blindly follow "leaders" and not question authority? If someone in power says it is so, does that really mean it is so?

I suppose this works out well for cult leaders...

I respect the mods and reviewers at GS but they are not infallible and therefore need to be held in check by the very people they represent and govern.

If your mother told you the world was flat, would you stick to that? just because she told you so?

My opinion on the cache means nothing but, I value the facts from admin... but just the facts.

Without questioning authority, the world would be run by dictatorships.

Questioning does not mean disrespect. I for one, like to know when I am wrong so I can be educated.

    Nothing wrong with learning.

If TPTB say it is so, does that mean it must not be so? Blindly following is not fixed by blindly questioning. If your mother told you to come in out of the rain, would you stay out there just because she told you not to? Never trusting anyone or anything would not make for a better world.

You sir missed the point by a mile. My mother telling me something that might happen.... nm... I will shut up now... and leave this thread... you can lead a horse to water.... but....

The exception here for you to consider is that throughout the almost 10 years this game has been online (and throughout Team Sagefox's nine years of experience) there have been NO situations where your cult and dictatorship analogies would even remotely apply.

Mind you, one or two instances occasionally where a handful of folks believe something terrible has been done by gc.com does not mean that either of your concerns raise rise to the level of even an amber alert.

Geocaching will NOT turn into a rouge cult nor will management turn into dictators.

Once again it is very clear that the sky is NOT falling.

Did I even imply that? you need to learn comprehension.

  5. What devices are there in the market which can be very simply activated to summon help in an emergency.

OK. I hike alone with my GPSmap 60CSx. I can't get lost, but I can get hurt and in places where cell phones don't operate....no bars.

Goggling brought me no where but 300,000 bit of nonsense.

    What's out there.

    Thanks,

  6. Excuse me for my ignorance but what does "wardriving" mean?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wardriving

Now I know and understand why I ignore such a thing.. wiki is retarded and user based. Most recognized universities want nothing to do with wiki... it is the fact check place for net newbies.

I would feel less intelligent for citing it.. you should also....

wikipedia is the last refuge of fools...

Then cite another source if you think it is wrong...

Are you actually asking me to educate you? I never said it was wrong... good lord man... do you have any idea that wiki is a user based website?

I asked for an answer.. and you asked me to provide one? Sorry pal... not here to do your thinking.

Is there a particular reason that you feel the need to be abusive to someone who only tried to answer a question you were too lazy to Google for yourself?

Actually, I apologize to TrailGators and Alabama rambler. I was in a bad mood and was rude to someone trying to help. I am very sorry.

    Bruce.

  9. "If you insist on questioning their integrity perhaps you need to find another playground."

What it always comes down to.

It is, and should be. If the vast majority of geocachers are happy with Groundspeak, and they appear to be, but a few are discontent and believe Groundspeak et al to be evil unfair and oppressive then those few should indeed go play where they can be happy. I don't think it's going too far to say that the majority of us who are happy with Groundspeak are sick of the whining of the few who aren't.

You speak for or have polled the "vast majority" of geocachers on this subject? or are you just projecting your opinion? I don't believe ANYONE used the word "oppressive" or even implied it (you really should look up the meaning of the word).

If you are so sick of the whining, then DON'T keep reading it. 'go play where you can be happy'.

I really have no problem with Groundspeak but as with any ruling body, they must be kept in check by the people they represent.

Some people are leaders, some people question leaders.... others are sheep...

It really involves a lot less thinking to be a sheep.

That's why they are so easily led to be sheared or slaughtered. B)

  10. My only problem with micros are when people place them in the woods. In my city there are a ton of caches. It is almost saturated and about 40% of them are micros. It has become impossible to place anything but a micro now because there just isnt any viable locations left. I have seen entire parks and river valleys so full of micros that a regular has no place to be put. If people want to place and search for micros thats fine with me, I have found a few myself but for Ganesh's sake... keep them away from the wooded areas where a real cache could be placed.

  11. Just throwing this out there... But, if the cache that superfly took so long to manufacture was destroyed without photos being taken of it and it was soo unique to its location, might it be possible to take a picture(s) of the exact location it was placed in and post that?

Not trying to cast doubt on him but hoping this might renew mine and others belief in his original story.

For the record, I am still not sure what basis GS had for calling him a liar and will likely never know.

    Bruce.

Might still be some poster putty stuck to the brickwork.

No... there might be an obviously vacant place where the cache may have been.... if it was a simple brick looking thing stuck with putty... it wouldn't have taken anyone a year and a half to make.

  12. I don't think it is one bit funny to attempt to derail this serious thread with jokes about pie. There are plenty of other threads to play with here if you wish to, but this is not one of them. Some of us are serious here.

Sorry. I am pretty sure this thread has been derailed a long time ago. I honestly think the issue here will never be dealt with. I wish it would be but a little humour is not going to derail it.

If I am wrong, let me know.

    I believe you are wrong.

    Then I apologize.

My mind is never closed. I consider every opinion I receive and take all into consideration.

  15. I've said this before and will say it again. It is called Geocaching.... NOT GPScaching.

You may require a GPS to hide a cache and get the co-ords... but you MIGHT not to find it.

I have found several caches thanks to the GPS... but I have also found a few without.

I have no idea why people would get upset about people finding caches without a GPS? can anyone explain this to me?

    Bruce.

    Who is upset, Bruce?

Perhaps no one.. Maybe I am wrong but several people seem to be opposed to playing the game without a GPS receiver.

I love a good debate and sometimes get too invested in it. If this is the case friend of chad.. forgive me. I am new here.

    Bruce.

  16. It is a reasonably good unit. However Magellan has indicated that they have no plans to continue their handheld GPS line of products.

    Not True

I have been looking to purchase a new GPSr and have looked at most of the retailers for one. I have noticed that the hand held units (at least here in Canada) are hard to find... they seem to only sell car navigation units.

    wtf?

I understand that they sell what sells but then I see threads talking about there are too many people getting into geocaching and worry it will become too prolific .

One would assume that if the demand was there... there will be a supplier.

Sorry for getting a bit off topic.

    Bruce.
