Why do people like to respond to threads they're not interested in? People reply to things that they have an opinion on even if their opinion is to say silly things. Even if their opinion is that the topic isn't worth having an opinion about? That's just going to make me wanna talk about philosophy.

^ that. WOW, I think that is the first time that brslk and I have ever aggreed on anything. Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

Doesn't it all really boil down to finding a well hidden cache in a great location that you enjoyed finding? I mean we could argue till the cows come home but we all want good, dry, well stocked, good cammo'd caches that are hidden in a good place with a nice view or a clever hide or clever cammo... etc... I love finding ammo cans but most of my finds are micros... I enjoyed them too. I have one nano ready to place but i'm not going to place it until I find somewhere other than the bottom of a park bench. As the saying goes, Its not the size that counts. Until GC decides to make the option for a nano or huge thing... it is what it is.

Not so much with my GPS but several times with my cell phones. When the Palm Treo first came out I was given several by my employer. After I lost or crushed the first 3 they made me pay for the next one. Which I promptly broke when it bounced out of the phone holder mounted on my dash and landed screen down on my gear shift knob cracking the screen.

I've thought about it and... no. If you think about it, any land managers, property owners or caretakers give signed permission, they could be held legally responsible should a cacher be injured while on their property caching. I'm also pretty sure that civic employees would get pretty tired of giving permission to anyone that wants to hide a cache in a city park and just put a blanket ban out there. Also... by paying property taxes I consider myself a partial owner of city parks. I give anyone in my city permission to place a cache there but will not do so in writing. If your idea became a guideline / rule then I would estimate 80% of all caches would be archived.

I'm always sad to hear stories like that. If my spouse told me he "didn't want to hear about" something dear to my heart, and/or ridiculed me for having interests, he wouldn't be my spouse for long. Home is supposed to be your soft place to land and be accepted for who you are. Not me. They wouldn't have been my spouse in the first place if I felt that strongly about a hobby. Fortunately I place my wife above my hobbies. I can't even imagine choosing geocaching above a person I loved. But then again... I left my last wife because she was blonde and I got tired of blondes. Also met a much hotter brunette. I'm fickle.

No - your the one that waded into this thicket without a machete. The reviewer in question has clearly stated that there are facts we are not aware of and too many rumors going on. I am not certain you are fully aware of the land managers full and complete position here. Don't try and back off the original intent here of throwing aside a reviewer and try to twist your intent. The original intent is to get the word out about this issue and see what others have to say. The land manager's position is in a fully public document, complete with maps. In both official languages. As soon as cacheblex was directed to these items, he retracted his decision. The land manager's position is not in question here. Clearly, something went seriously amiss here. The geocaching community's relationship with the NCC might be damaged as a result of the reviewer's actions, and local geocachers are seriously questioning why someone who lives 500 miles away, doesn't speak English, and can't be bothered to Google "Gatineau Park" was given responsibility for handling this issue. I fully respect that reviewers are volunteers who give a lot of their time to this game, but they should still be held accountable for things like this. I suggest you let it go. If you cannot let it go then perhaps you might try someplace like craigslist rants and raves section to vent. You have received some good advice so far from forum posters, Admin and even the person you called a liar. I think you are intelligent. So I think that you would agree, that when 95% of the people you ask for advice tell you that you are wrong, then you are wrong.

What I don't understand is how the blog hosting place does not have anywhere to say anything about this a-hole. I also find it humorous how she likes to pretend there is a group of them when it is obviously just her nutty little head. I like the idea about placing bait caches and waiting for her to find them. I would love to confront such a person. I wouldn't resort to violence. I might however check into how environmental their life habits are.

Meh, depends on the smart phone. Droids will get you within 5 meters in wooded areas, whereas iphones will get you within 100 feet. Huge difference. Generalizing all smartphones because most suck is a bad thing to do. Wow! do you have evidence to back that up? My iPhone gets me a lot closer than that. It often even gets me closer than my Garmin. Do the Droids have some sort of better GPS receiver? The way I heard it is that Droids will get you within 5 meters in the wooded areas, whereas iPhones will get you within 16.4041995 feet. Nice. Now tell me the final digit of pi?

From the forum guidelines (with much snipped for brevity): Fun is not limited to but may include what you may enjoy. My idea of fun normally includes attacking people. Most people do not find this fun. Can't figure those people out...

I also think it has a lot to do with what people find and have to compare to. Most of the ones listed as small I find are micros because the hider has found mostly nanos listed as micros. I was going to say something about how men always exaggerate when it comes to size but since I am a man, I won't. err... I did.

I carry in my small backpack: -a few flashlights -compass -telescopic magnet / mirror -small first aid kit -a cache repair kit (tape, ziplocks etc.) -pepper spray -cell phone -swag -pen, pencil, gel pen and a felt pen -gloves -camera -Leatherman multi-tool -batteries -small flare launcher and flares -extend able baton -water -a cache or three of various sizes ready to place I think that's about all.
