  1. Hey, we all have gps units, and someone has to know how to put a tracking device on one and lead us to him........ sorry, have watched way too many movies. Luckily, I only have one TB right now in B.C. But was excited that it made it up to Canada!
  2. I frequently log TBs through caches that I visit. Sometimes to drop and grab for the mileage. Be sure to check the goals for the TBs though, if Arkansas takes them further from their goals, then bringing them back to re-release them is a nice touch.
  3. Darn, I couldn't get the link to work. It would be cool if the osprey would flip it over.
  4. If someone wants to keep my TB because they like it (and most of mine are very cheap keychains) then they are allowed to keep them, as long as they promise to cache with it and continue to log the miles. I simply love it when a cacher takes the time to photo a TB with the cache or with something the TB is related to and post it on the TB's web page. I check for photos, and some cachers are the coolest people for doing so!
  5. heehee - what's with the Red Bug in the picture?
  6. I have found that even emailing a cache owner and the TB owner to tell them that their TB is not in the cache doesn't work. It's very easy and simple to mark a TB missing. Just wishing that more geocachers would do so.
  7. A big salute to Lemon Fresh Dog for all your hard work and great attitude. I appreciate all that you are doing to keep all of our geocaching friends around the world in the game! Actually, I hope I get a GJTB one of these days, and if I missed the cut off to receive one, at this point I may have better luck finding a FEEP! Well done!
  8. I've noticed the same thing. Perhaps is it possibly to do with vacation season? Also, here in Southern California, there seems to be a great lack of TBs to find.
  9. I had the sincere pleasure of being handed a TB in honor of someone who died too young. They wanted the bug to go to Disneyland and have photos of it taken. I emailed the owners, asked them what photos they wanted, and I set off to the Happiest Place on Earth and had a blast taking some photos for them and posting them on the web page for the TB. You can see them at TBK76C ("Walt"). I say go for it. And if I have the honor of grabbing it, you'll get some photos and an email. Best wishes!

    Yellow Jeeps

Have never found a YJTB in a cache and have only ever found one WJTB in a cache.
  11. Once I actually FOUND a WJTB in a cache. I was so excited. I logged it into and out of caches for several months. Then, made the mistake of asking (on another forum) if the WJTB's were supposed to continue to travel since the Jeep Challenge was over......... WELL.......... I was certainly TOLD to get it back into circulation. Gee whiz. I know of some (ahem) cachers who have held on to some, so I thought I could/should too. We went out to the desert for an overnight caching trip and I found a perfect ammo box to leave it in, and I waved goodbye to it. I miss having him in my inventory, but didn't want the JEEP 4x4 folks not willing to send me a Green one if I had a White one in my inventory. There, now I feel better. And, Snoogans, we will be up the 395 soon, I hope I can convince hubby to stop and find your wonderful cache!

    New Tb Design

I had received 2 orders of 8 of the new tags, and my last 2 orders of 8 were of the old tags. Either way, I love 'em. Sitting at the computer waiting for the mailman to come, will I get 2 more packages of 8 today, which will they be? The anticipation is too much.........
  13. I used to be so upset when folks would hold my TB's for more than 2 weeks. I would email and email, and get so upset when my emails would go unanswered. So, to release my frustration (and to support the crew at Groundspeak), I ordered more TB tags and released them. Then, I ordered more and more and more. I have so many now, that when one goes missing, I no longer fret about it and no longer complain about it. If they want to keep it, then keep it. I usually only paid 50 cents for a keychain from Oriental Trading, or even got a keychain from a cache. Am I sad when one goes missing, sort of. But we have some awesome cachers out there keeping them moving, log their travels, post some awesome photos, and I'm loving spending so much time on the internet looking at the fun places that cachers get to go, that I will never be able to visit in my life time. So, take a deep breath, order more tags, and release them into the game. It makes it easier to let go of the ones that go missing.
  14. I've had no problems clearing security with GPSr and TB's. Use in the airplane was no problem, once up in the air and the call for personal electronics was given. My son turns on his Game Boy and we turn on the GPS. My only warning about TBs is what is attached to the tag. If it looks like a keychain, then no big deal, unless the keychain is a pocket knife. Helped a geocaching buddy recently as he was heading back to the airport and he had a metal bolt like travel bug. I took it off his hands so he didn't have to "explain" it through security. If your TBs are McToy type TB's they are harmless enough. Just common sense tells you to not take a concrete brick TB in your carry on.......
  15. I sent off my request late (just yesterday) so I have hope that there is one just waiting to come to me. If yes, then I will be happy. If no, well then I may just move to Hawaii...... or Alaska..... if only just to cache in those two beautiful places!
  16. We are back in for lunch after caching all morning. I get that error whether trying to log finds or DNF's. Only one find went through, and it neglected to drop the TB in the cache. In addition, now I can't even write a note to drop the TB. I'll wait a few hours and try to log in again.
  17. And if you take the geocoin to an event and allow others to "log" it, the new "discovered" feature eliminates the dropping and grabbing which created 2 emails per person, per owner. I like the idea of moving the geocoin to an unknown location. I have several and my inventory list is very, very long now.
  18. Wow, I just can't thank you all enough for these great tips and ideas. Cachers are some of the most wonderful and accomodating people in the world. You all are awesome!
  19. I had a TB discovered 4 times this past weekend from an event. And although someone did grab it to travel it, I was surprised that so many discovered it. Seems like a way to pad the find numbers.
  20. Yep, I recently helped a cacher with a copy TB. His original resurfaced just fine and dandy after a long hiatus of non-activity. The copy TB ended up in one of our owned caches, so I wandered out and took it. Didn't log it, and mailed it to the TB owner so the copy TB could get out of circulation. I'd give your TB quite a while, especially if someone has grabbed it. Now, if the cache is muggled and no longer there, well then, your TB is very likely to be a goner.......
  21. kelly@9 this is very helpful to me, as is Blind Acorn's post. I'll be on my own when I am there for the conference, and was wondering about the metro. I decided to not rent a car, a friend of mine who was there recently said that it is actually not advantageous to do so because parking is so scarce. Therefore, I won't make it outside of DC proper nor beyond the convention center and hotel where I am staying. It's good to note that there aren't many places to buy water or snacks, so will raid the mini-bar in the hotel room before I head out. I have 2 months to plan my course of attack (not in the literal sense, only in geo-sense), so I think I'll be alright. I may head off to AAA to get an auto club map too. Or, if I'm lucky, I can persuade the hubby to do a streets and trips from Microsoft for me. Now to find someone to lend me a lap top with wireless connection.........
  22. Hang in there, and keep up hope. TB's make it in and out of the country with time. In fact, get a few more and release them too. The more you have out there, the greater the likelihood one or more will leave the country!
  23. I don't think anyone really cares about the mileage on anyone's elses TB's except their own. Which is why "dipping" was discovered. My very first TB, I dropped off and it was lost in Texas. It wasn't until I was back in So Cal, that I learned of dipping to track MY mileage. It's a fun way to discover how far we will go to find a cache. And putting in the home coordinates, that is brilliant. I start all of my TB's in a local cache that we placed, and it's close to home. But I don't return each of my TB's to home when we come back from caching.
  24. I don't know if you can change the activation state. I mistakenly, but caught, that I had almost activated a TB in Afghanistan (the US is at the top of the list, then alphabetically it goes to A). I activate all the TB's I own from home, then get them on their way. But mileage is tracked only from where it's dropped and grabbed, so it may not matter at all which state you activated it in, if you never dropped it there!
  25. If I'm not mistaken, and I very well could be, the Groundspeak "staff" is small with a few volunteers. The fulfillment of orders takes time and processing. So with a small organization and few hands for help, it can take a bit of time to receive an order. Once I waited more than a month, and other times I've had them with in a week. I order so many of them, so often, sometimes I don't even remember that I have a package of them coming, and I'm pleasantly surprised when they show up.
