Here's my first find. A Nano.

I can't do this with my GPSr so I just email cache info to my Blackberry with the GC# and Name in the subject line.
-
http://coord.info/GC1TQB0 is 0.5 miles from my location. Haven't found a good time to snag it.
-
I placed my first cache, submitted it, had it published, and had a FTF all on Halloween! How cool is that?
-
Thanks to all for your input!
I don't think I'll be hiding my first cache anytime soon. Maybe in the Spring.
I usually hibernate in the winter, but I might venture out of my cave this year to do a little geocaching and gain more experience.

Thanks again for all the great information GeoFriends!
Good stuff for all us newbies.
I found a cache yesterday that was in a Lock & Lock and the log book was damp. I tried cleaning the dirt off the rubber gasket, re-sealed the container & replaced it. I'm pretty sure my Keep2Go is water tight.
I have found other Lock & Locks that had the log in a Ziploc. Ah, double protection.
A long term commitment and maintenance is essential to cache owners.
What is a good maintenance schedule? Once a week, once a month?
Thanks again,
Cheers,
Dave

Thanks for all your advice.
I'm not ready to hide my first cache just yet. I'm just getting a container ready till I find a good spot to place it.
I agree I should find a few more to round out my experience. I guess when I'm ready, I'll be ready.
Here's stage one of my Keep2Go container.
I'm using a brown texture paint. I might add some other dark colors to further camouflage it.
What do ya think?

As a newbie I wonder how many caches you found before you placed your first cache?
I have 7 finds so far and I'm getting a Keep2Go ready for my first hide.
Thanks,
Dave

i have a verizon bb curve and i downloaded blackstar also. but i am unbale to get it too work? if anyone can help, it would greatly appreciated. my daughter is dying to go out and cache with me...........
Almost every GPS app for the BB will not work with the Verizon network. I'm so happy I switched to Sprint!
I tried BlackStar on my Tour but I now have better accuracy with my new Garmin eTrex Venture HC.

I concur with JD. I just tried out mine and it's spot on. Found 4 caches tonight after work. If I would have known better I prolly would have gotten the HCx model. It has a internal sd slot for more memory. Try Amazon, $121 for the HC. $188.63 for the HCx.
Happy hunting!

@Rockin Roddy - I noticed that when I accidentally marked the cache as found, it moved out of the Geocache Folder but was still in the Waypoints Folder. When I changed the icon to a closed box, it put it back in the Geocache Folder. The found button said Delete instead of Found. I changed the icon to an open box and it moved it out of the Geocache Folder. I closed the box and now it's back in the Geocache Folder and ready for me to Find.
Thanks for the help!

I just started geocachng, but I'd have to say Fall for the foliage and Spring for the re-growth. The cooler temp are a plus.

My name is Dave and I used to homebrew beer. I have used Brews as a handle but lately it's been tough hence the Dave attachment. I don't wanna be Brews758! lol

Ahhh, Sweet! I knew there was a quick fix. Thanks Mama!
Just go in and change the Waypoint icon from the OPEN treasure chest to the CLOSED treasure chest.
-
Thanks for the quick reply Rockin Roddy!
I thought of that but was wondering if I could just mark it as un-found. No help in the PDF manual.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Hello, I'm a newb to geocaching and a total newb for GPSr's. I received my new Venture yesterday and went out at dusk to do some GCing. I accidentally marked a cache as Found. How can I undo this?
Thanks,
Dave
PS - Sorry my first post has to be a question.
As I understand this question, you accidentally marked the cache as found and didn't find it. The only way I can think of to fix this would be to remove the cache and re-enter it? I could be wrong...

You can always use this. LOL
I saw a video (can't find it now) where someone drilled a hole in the end of the box and put in a big eye bolt and used Locktite the nuts. Also smeared J-B Weld over the nuts inside and out. A bike cable was used to attache box to tree etc..
