I'm going to order some geocaching odds and ends from globalpositioningsystems.co.uk - if anyone wants some TB tags, cache stickers, logbooks etc, let me know and I'll "bulk order" to save on postage, and we'll settle up at the event. I'll order on 31st Jan....just add your requirements to the thread!
  2. I use a Geko 201 after deciding I wouldn't need all the fancy schmancy features of more expensive models. Works just fine for me, and you can pretend it's a mobile phone to disguise your activities! I found my first Geocoin on Jan 1st, and it's still in the place where I dropped it off after a week (GCCE5E). Your profile says you're in London, so to grab this one you'd have to drive up the A1 to Hitchin or take a train+bike!

  6. You can use a Pocket Query - http://www.geocaching.com/pocket/ - tick the "Are for members only" when composing your search criteria. I found just 8 members only caches in the UK.

  11. Aldermans Walk (GCJTBT ) can hold a travelbug or two - it's in the middle of The City close to Bishopsgate and Liverpool Street station. Try to avoid lunchtimes if you visit this cache!

In case anyone is thinking of adapting the permission request I posted above, The Bramblers have sent me some factual corrections: - It was the GAGB who adopted the HCC guidelines and not the other way round. - HCC have granted permision for geocaching on land owned and managed by Hampshire County Council Countryside Service and not all land owned by HCC It was also noted that the link to the HCC guidelines fails because the closing bracket looks like part of the hyperlink to the forum and email software. Add a space before the closing bracket and everyone is happy :-)
  14. North Hertfordshire District Council have granted me permission to place a cache! Everyone involved in the decision has been extremely positive and supportive, but they seem to want to see how this one pans out before granting any more. That said, if anyone wants contact details for NHDC or copies of correspondence to help with their own negotiations with other councils, get in touch.

  18. I'm visiting Washington DC for the first time in November, and I'll a day or two free to explore. I'm from London, which has a wealth of caches (mainly virtuals) in interesting but forgotten corners of the city. So, anyone got any recommended caches in Washington or Alexandria that will give me a interesting tour? There's a TB in the DC Line cache that wants to come the UK, so if it's still there when I visit, I'll try to pick him up...
  19. I'll be in Washington 6th-10th Nov (this might mean I miss the 16th Century Pub meet on the 11th ) I'll be working in Alexandria but I hope to have some spare time to explore Washington with the aid of my trusty GPSr. If the TB is still around, I'll do my best to pick him up!

I've been dealing with North Hertfordshire District Council recently (see original topic for sample correspondence) Initial response has been very favourable, from the initial letter I was put in touch with the right people and spent 15 minutes on the phone answering their initial questions - off the top of their heads, they had similar questions to the ones DomHeknows mentioned and I was able to set their minds at rest. I'm still waiting for the final go-ahead, but the signs are good, and they've indicated that this could be a great idea for all NHDC land, so fingers crossed. I've also forwarded those great quotes from Cheshire County Council which Lactodorum posted earlier, which can't hurt either ;-)

  22. 11th works for me. In fact, if it involves beer drinking within walking distance of my office *any* date is good for me. As for "party" suggestions, might I suggest the evening simply involves getting as intoxicated as possible while extolling the virtues of ones particular choice of GPSr? I'll be bristling with Internet-enabled devices aplenty so live updates from the cache location should be possible. This might make for interesting reading the morning after
