  1. Here's my experience this morning. Needed a pq, filled in the data, previewed, looked good, submitted, received, put into GSAK, put into PDA and GPS. Ten minutes.

  2. Two thoughts.

1] "Preview" your pocket query before you run it. That will show you whether it does what you want without wasting one of your daily 5.

2] When you get that error message. Click on Refresh. Most of the time you'll proceed on your merry way to wherever you were headed. I've submitted those before and have never, ever heard back. Now, as long as I can keep going my attitude is "Who knows, who cares?"

    Cache on.

  3. For some of us this would be totally useless. If one is doing a challenge cache such as Sacramento in 115 Minutes, GC1F0QW, the owner wants us to complete a bookmark list so that he may check to see that the requirements have been completed. We need an option where a cache would be automatically added to a bookmark list when it is found.

Might it be useful to have a checkmark appear by caches we've found that are "bookmarked" like in a "nearest" search to ease in bulk deletes?

  4. I just tried another site that uses interactive maps with Google and encountered the same problem. I'm guessing that there is massive scurrying going on down at Google. It doesn't appear to be geocaching.com specific.

  5. JC Geo and I posted the same problem at the same time. Please remove one thread or the other.

The following is my post from the other thread.

Is there something suddenly dreadfully wrong with Google Maps? I went to a cache, clicked on "view map" and got intermittent blocks of maps and "We are sorry but we don't have maps at this zoom level for this region." They had them earlier today. I tried another random cache in another state and got the same thing.

    What's up?

Here is additional information for this post.

    IE 7

    First noticed on GCZ5KP

    Tested on GCYJEG

  7. If you waited and waited for your email account to get the validation code sent, and were impatient and clicked the validate button again, then be patient and WAIT for the latest most recent email to come. Then validate.

If you are in too much of a hurry then you will be using invalid validation codes.

Exactly what I did "wrong." I've never been a patient person and, at this age, I'll probably not change. Now that the e-mail problem has been solved, all is good.

  8. Hmmmm. Maybe my topic "validation codes" is really related to yours. I, too, use gmail and suddenly started have difficulties this afternoon. I tried changing my e-mail address away from gmail and then back and now can't get the validation code and my account can't be validated. Thus, I can't send or receive e-mail.

This doesn't help you but it lets me take a different look at my problem while letting you know your not alone in your problem.

  9. Now I get a validation code, try it and they say it's not the latest one so it doesn't work. Can somebody out there please help? Is there a moderator monitoring this that can send me an answer?

  10. Is anyone else having trouble getting validation codes? I just went caching with a grandson and then set up his account. The validation code has not arrived although it says that it has been sent. How long should I expect this to take? I'm using gmail and do not usually have any trouble getting geocaching mail.

  11. First, thanks for responding with Lil Devil's adjustment suggestion. However, I'd still prefer that this be a choice, as mention above, that I could opt into or out of (my choice is obvious from the beginning of this thread). We get to choose whether or not to include Location and Occupation if I recall correctly, I did that a long time ago. Why not these things as well.

I also like the idea of moving (and shrinking) the Forum posts link up behind the Forum title. The higher on the page the user generated information is the better I like it. I'd even like that to be a choice I could opt out of. The link for that could be, maybe it already is, on the forum pages.

While we're at it, how about putting the "Member since" and "Last visit" on the same line or without a blank line between them?

As I said, before, the higher on the page the user generated information is the better I like it.

  12. OH! WAIT! Now I see it!

Please, won't someone be so kind as to extend my membership for me?

If someone should extend my membership (like for a year), would my automatically renewing monthly subscription be put on hold, or canceled?

    Now, you get it.

  13. I'm not seeing a rude or insulting 'Extend Membership' link on my page.

I do see a tiny 'Renew your Membership' link in the upper right corner.

I know rude and insulting, and this isn't it.

Yeah, right. I just want the option of not having it front and center on my profile page.

I find mine in the middle of the screen between the "Status: Premium Member" line and the "Email Address: Send Message" line. That ain't no upper right hand corner.

  15. Please remove the new "Extend ... Membership" link from everyone's profile page. It is rude and insulting.

The profile page is the way that we, as cachers, present ourselves to the caching community. I, personally, would not want what appears to me to be begging as part of my profile. Given the choice, I wouldn't put it there and it is not the image I wish to portray about me as a cacher. If it was something that cachers could choose to opt into or out of ... fine but this was not the way it appeared.

  16. Today we updated the site with new ways to purchase Groundspeak Premium Membership gift certificates.

    http://www.geocaching.com/gift

You may give the gift of Premium Membership by:

    • Directly upgrading a current user's membership
    • Having a gift code mailed to a friend
    • Requesting the site email you a gift code to present to your friend at your leisure

    View a sample gift certificate

Gift Certificates can be used to purchase a new Premium Membership, upgrade a current Basic Membership or extend a current Premium Membership by one year. The cost of a Groundspeak Membership Gift Certificate is $30.00 USD. Paypal and most major credit cards are accepted.

Can we opt to have this link removed from our individual Profile page? It adds nothing and is unseemly.

  17. My favorite ones to log are the FTDNF, going for the FTF and the cache eluding me. I got a bunch of 'em.

There are those few stupid ones I havent thought to DNF, like when I pull up and a group of muggles is right by GZ, I didn't search, therefore I can't DNF it. Now, when I first started I would log the DNF and then change it when found, I stopped doing that. I agree with other cachers now that, that is part of my history. Some great stories behind those DNF's. Ham up the logs... I usually claim my stupidity and the fact I most likely stepped on, sat on, picked up, tripped over, looked at, or otherwise had the cache right there and missed it.

I'm thinking of putting together a cache that a requirement would be to have 100 DNF's to get the smiley, I hear ther's one in California somewhere like that.
