Did they send you a DriveSmart 50 LMT-HD or a Drive Assist 51 LMT-S?DriveAssist 51 North America LMTHD Taken right from the front of the box.

And, there appears to be multiple versions of the 51. LMTHD, LMT-S, LMT-D. I'm really having a hard time finding the differences.

Well, that's one thing I'm not sure of. How is it an upgrade? Was anything lost from the 50 in the upgrade as sometimes happens? It sounds like I would need a smartphone app for traffic updates, which we didn't need with the 50. I don't really like the idea of using my phone with it as we have Sprint, and there are many places that we don't have coverage, although I'm guessing if traffic is bad enough we'd probably be in a covered area. Am also wondering if we could use the cable from the 50 for the 51 and get traffic updates that way.

I dropped our Garmin DriveAssist 50LMT and now it's useless so we're in the market for a new auto GPS. I tried to purchase another one (not from Garmin, they don't have them) and was sent a DriveAssist 51 LMTHD. Garmin only has a few units on their website, and I've had a really hard time finding geocaching reviews for the units I've been able to find online to purchase. I'd really like to hear from other cachers about the available units and how they work for geocaching with GSAK and Cachetur. I want to be able to load Routes and POIs into it, and want a forward facing video camera. Thanks for any help.

I ended up buying a Garmin DriveAssist 51 LMT-S 5 Dashcam GPS.
Just uploaded a short test route with Geocaches in it.
It worked a treat. Just need to buy a couple if microSD card to give it some storage space then I'm set to go.
Now that you've had the DriveAssist 51 for awhile, what do you think? I just dropped by DriveAssist 50 (which we loved) and totalled it. I tried to order another, and they sent me the 51. I'm not really sure what the difference is. I've heard talk about having to use a smartphone app while driving, which I'd rather not do. I used to upload caching routes from GSAK or Cachetur thru TripPlanner.

We’ve been looking at small Class C campers so that we can take our dogs on trips with us and not have to stay in hotels. We’re worried about how difficult it might be to park in some places at different attractions and National Parks, and just pulling off the road to cache anywhere. I’d like to hear of your experiences caching with a Class C. We don’t want to tow a vehicle. Thanks

I created a pocket query within 100 miles of home, dated from 2000 to the present, using "Is Disable" under "That/And". I got less than 1,000 caches, and I know for sure that there are some missing. I'm looking for a cache that we found in the past and forgot to log. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

Go to your trackable's page.
Click on Edit this Trackable (on the right side of the screen)
Where it says Bug Image, change the pick list to "no image selected"
Save the changes
This doesn't take it out of any galleries, however.
So once it's out there, it's out there?? Is it not cool to delete the two "Discovered" logs?

I need to know how to remove an image from my geocoin page. I thought I'd be nice and put a picture of the coin on the trackable page, unfortunately it has the tracking number on it

Open Google Maps and log in (need Google account) to My Maps
Create New Map
Select Draw line, then in drop down select add driving route driving route
Draw your route and save it. Give it a name.
Select the three vertical dots at the top and choose "Export to KML" and then "Entire Map". Click "Download".
You will get a .kml/.kmz file in your download folder
If you get a .kmz you can rename it .zip and extract all just like any .zip folder
Go to Geocaching.com and upload the .kml and use it as your route / create pocket query.
I have done this many times and have no issues with it.

Hi Caching folks. Has anyone discovered a work-around to creating "cache's along a route"? I'm so frustrated! I also contacted Groundspeak and their response had nothing to do with my issue.

We have an eTrex Vista HCx and a Dakota, but he prefers the auto GPS with the larger screen. I'm sure it is frustrating for some people, but he's been doing it that way for 3 years and prefers it. So, we're just looking for a nice auto GPS that has a pointer arrow screen and also allows you to see the coords.

My Tom Tom does that, you just have to change it from driving to walking while you are caching. You can still use it for driving while set to walking, it just messes with the time it will take you to get there.
Which TomTom do you have? It actually has a pointer arrow that you can use while walking?

We're looking for an auto GPS to replace our TomTom. My husband has always used the TomTom to drive to the cache, and then takes it with him to walk to the cache using the coords screen and watching them as they move to find the cache. He'd like a new auto GPS that will still allow him to use the coords when he gets close to GZ, but that will have a pointer arrow to get him from the car to the general area of the cache. The Montana is out of our range. Anyone know of a GPS that has both?

Is there a screen on the Nuvi 500 or 550 that shows your current coords so that when you're close to the cache, you can navigate by the actual coords? Maybe in a data field or something?

So if I use the map feature, will only the 2,000 .gpx caches show up? It would be nice to see our found caches on the map also.

I figured out what I was doing wrong. I hadn't updated the counties, and I was querying in GSAK by county, so it wouldn't pull the caches with a blank county.
Atlas Cached: You ask am I auto naming the exported GPX files or manually naming them?
When I go to Export GPX/LOC in GSAK, a window pops up. Top line File Name to Create - I have H:\Garmin\GPX\caches.gpx And I'm using the same name each time, so it's overwriting the file and I don't have to delete it first, right?
Cacheoholic: When you say the Garmin can only load 2,000 geocaches as geocaches, do you mean it will only hold 2,000 gpx files?
Can I load my additional files as .csv with POI loader and access them in Where To - Extras - All Databases? I have folders in Extras called Found, Placed, Multi, Traditional, Virtual and Webcam. The caches in those folders aren't all in my Geocaching feature (some may be, not sure)
I do have a micro SD card. How would I get the Dakota to recognize caches on it?

I'm using a Dakota 20 and GSAK. First let me just say, I really hate the 2,000 cache limit. Ok, I feel better.
This is what I think I know
You can load 2,000 caches on the Dakota and use the geocaching feature. You can load additional caches as POIs. We're traveling through multiple counties and I never know exactly where we'll be each day. Anyway, I loaded my pocket queries in GSAK. Filtered by the counties I thought I might be in and was able to stay under 2,000 caches. So I loaded caches to the Dakota from GSAK using File - Export - GPX/LOC file. I really want to use the Geocaching feature in the Dakota so that I can log my finds and upload to geocaching.com as field notes.
I would also like to be able to load my found caches, and other unfound caches, in other counties. I thought I could do that as POIs. I used the GarminExport.gsk macro, and the Garmin POI Loader. I'm not getting the original, filtered, under 2,000 caches in the Geocaching feature on the Dakota. Some just don't show up. They are in Where To - Extras - All Databases. But that's not what I want. I can't log them there, and they don't have all of the cache info easily available.
If there's a better/easier/different way, let me know. But I really want to be able to log the finds on the Dakota.
Any help would be appreciated. Then I know I'll have other questions.

I'm having problems with notifications from geocaching.com I noticed earlier that I had received a text on a new cache, but not an email. I'm set up for both and I'd received both types of notifications on other caches today. Just now, I received two texts that the cache had been found (it's on my watchlist) by two different cachers, but the log message was the same on each. Looking at the cache page, the second cacher had not even logged it. Anyone else experiencing anything like this?

Just wondering if anyone had an ipad that they use for geocaching. If so, what exactly do you do with it? I'm thinking of getting one, but what good is it if I can't use it for geocaching?

I have the etrex Vista HCx. The way I do it is to go to Mark from the Main Menu. Then move up and edit the Location to the coords you want and you can edit the name. Then OK. That takes you back to the Main Menu. Then go to Find, Recent Find and choose the waypoint that you just edited.
You can load 2,000 caches on the Dakota and use the geocaching feature. You can load additional caches as POIs.
