  1. At the Binfield Cache Bash I saw someone with a GSAK printout which had a column for decoded hints. Does anyone know how I can do this? Is there a special macro?

    Thanks.

    From the print menu

    select Grid columns.

    select Custom Column

and in the Special tags box, type %hint.

That's great - and all that I needed. Seems odd that this cannot be displayed in the GSAK display on screen.

  2. I will repeat what I said in the other post:

'This has come 'out of the blue' for me, and I feel a sense of loss. This great sport of ours appears to be losing its innocence, which is a real shame.

I just hope that those who replace you will be as good and as hardworking as you have been.'

But I will add - does this mean that you can come to the Binfield Cache Bash on May 3rd? I hope so!

  4. Won't help after the event, but in the USA there are at least 2 states where it it illegal to have sucker mounts on the windscreen. people in those states still do it, but there is an alternative.

These weighted mats are available, fix your window mount to the centre, place it on the dash and it stays there. Shove it in the glovebox or under the seat, and no mark on the windscreen.

They go on fleabay for about £18 in UK or $15 in USA on fleabay.com and some US companies will ship to UK.

I've had a look on fleabay (great name! :D ) and nothing coming and I only find the big van sized ones. Anyone have any ideas?

What did you search under? I have tried various words and can't find them! :D

This looks good, but I have one question:

How easily do these things slide around - say under emergency braking?

  6. I am no technophobe, but it seems a shame for there to be a development in caching that is out of the reach of most people in the sport.

To be fair Wherigo is completely different to geocaching. It's just a Groundspeak venture that happens to be attractive to some geocachers and can be combined with caching.

    Thanks for the clarification.

  7. Hello All,

I've been using MapIt from here :- http://benchmarks.org.uk/map.php

You just highlight any type (Lat/Lon, OS Brit Grid) of Grid Ref on any web page, (not limited to a cache page), click on the MapIt bookmark and it will give a full page Streetmap map the same as that which Lacto mentions above.

Works with Firefox and IE browsers.

    Regards

    Bernard

When I clicked on the link for the thumbnail script I got a dead page. :(

  8. I had grief in 2006, when my TomTOM One became intermittent. They required proof of purchase and a fault report to be sent with the unit to Holland, and it came back still faulty, and with the fault report envelope unopened!!

It went back again, and came back faulty again. It was only on returning it yet again that they sent me a new one. It took from July to November to get a reliable unit. Since then it has performed perfectly. Having worked in hi-tech repairs for many years, I do know that occasional units just plain 'don't work' and that products either fail early in their life or last for years before failing. My argument with them was not that it was a new one that was faulty, but the careless way they handled the whole service issue.

Having said that, they did give me the next map update free of charge as compensation!

  9. I'm not sure I'd agree there - we've done quite a few excellent and very cunning urban hides in the USA. A lot of very creative caches where the cache owner has made something to blend is perfectly with it's surroundings.

The number of LPC's as a proportion of total caches is very low - they just get talked about all the time which makes you think there are more of them than there are in reality (as a proportion of total caches in an area).

We've done quite a few creative UK urban hides too but have also done a ton of 35mm containers chucked in the obvious spot too.

    Swings and roundabouts .

I like to think we're a little more creative with our urban hides here in the UK.

Last November/December I spent a month in Modesto CA and found three LPCs.

Several, some magnetic, caches were attached to local power transformers, and many, if not most, were on private property.

One log of a cache I didn't try told of how one finder had to evade the security guard to find it! The car park where I found one cache was clearly marked private. One was hidden in the louvres of the air conditioning outlet of a hospital, which was located at the top of the hospital car park. Great views, though!

There were ingenious hides too, and out in the country - at a place called Knights Ferry, there were several with great walks and views of the Stanislaus River.

  10. Managed it, many thanks.

Glad to be of assistance

Mind you, WordPad is a lot better than Notepad for editing! :)

Yes but I use Notepad2 - nothing to do with Microslob... :)

    Notepad 2 - freebie?

Found it - great. Now I know why you could quote the line number of the code to be changed! :D
