  1. Hello!

Wonder if you can help. Have bought geocache navigator. On my blackberry it says "initialising" then it asks for my phone number and PIN. Which PIN? Where do I find it?

Please help I'm not very technically minded

    Helen xx

Every phone has a pin number so that you can stop anyone but yourself using the phone. If you set the pin number then, when you switch the phone on, it will ask for your pin number. Generally you have to enable it through one of the menus in the phone. The default for all the mobiles I have used is 0000. You might try that.

The phone handbook should give you more information.

    I hope this helps.

  2. Many years ago I was really into aviation of all kinds, and used to go plane spotting and air shows. I also still have in my possession the 10 volume series of books entitled 'Action Stations' which listed every place that had ever been used as a military airbase regardless of its present function or condition. When on family holidays we used to visit these places, and some were really remarkable. Take Down Ampney, from where planes for the Arnhem landing set off. The village church has a stained glass window of a Dakota and a very interesting visitors book where veterans could sign their names. An added attraction is the grave of Ralph Vaughan Williams, the British composer, which is in the graveyard of the church.

I am wondering whether a caching series could be compiled of caches that are near, or focused on, such places? I am sure that there must be many already, but, for me at least, it would add a further dimension to caching. I would certainly look to placing some in my area.

Of course, such a listing might exist.

Is anyone out there interested in this idea? I would be very happy to manage a bookmark list.

  3. Can I let all friends, old and new, know that I am taking a sabbatical from caching for what maybe a short time and what maybe a long time.

I am very unhappy about things that have been published about me on this forum, and quite angry about the way a couple of my friends have been treated.

Additionally changing circumstances mean that I will probably get out in the field looking for the d*** (sorry that was very nearly a genuine mistake!) things only occasionally in the next months.

In the mean time all the very best to all my friends out there - especially Ian Patterson from Geordieland - good luck in all you do.

I won't ask for this thread to be closed as I am sure somone will be along to do it very soon!

    Lots of love and luck,

    Dave

I am very sympathetic about your situation, but all I would say is:

    COME BACK SOON!!!

Maybe at this year's Binfield Cache Bash.

    All the best.

  4. They're from a Bookmark so I can't see the details but that PQ should return all the caches in the BM only and no others. Must be a glitch in the system. I know that there is work being done on the PQ generators atm so maybe you got caught in something between changes? have you run it again since?

That was what I thought. The only reason I posted a thread was in case it was a general problem. I am running it tomorrow. If there is no problem I will post here and then get the thread closed.

    Thanks for your help.

  5. I have the UK Virtuals Bookmark as a regular PQ. It arrived today, but it didn't contain the UK Virtuals but a whole lot in Holland and Germany.

Has anyone else received the wrong contents in a PQ?

I have asked it to do another download tomorrow, so we will see.....

  6. Hi all,

Mrs Lightbeer is very kindly taking Grotbag and me to Tenerife for a week and obviously we are keen to do some caching. In fact if we time it right, we may even get our 1000th out there. I usually use Memory Map and/or TomTom Nav 6 on the PDA, but can't find any maps to download or purchase. Can anyone help by pointing us in the right direction?

    Thanks in advance,

    Bud

TomTom's Western Europe Maps have Tenerife included - indeed all the Canaries.

  7. When caching in the US towards the end of 2007 I went for a cache in a park. The co-ords took you to the middle of the park, and the idea was to use your caching instincts to find it.

All the information given on the page was:

The cache is by a big tree.

The cache only contains a geonote and log. So bring your own pen.

There were loads of big trees within range, and lots of people going by. As a Brit in a security-conscious country I felt very exposed.

    The clue:

Beware of muggles, bring a picnic lunch

    I logged a DNF!

  8.

Why isn't this coming up with the nice link it normally does? I have done the insert properly?

    Mega Series

I think you added the URL twice and they were tripping each other up

Iknew there was something wrong - but the odd thing is, I did enter it as normal, using the icons etc - the only thing I can think of is when I copied the url itself that I put something in that shouldn't have been there.

    Thanks for the help.

  9. When in China this last summer, we managed to bag a cache, which was a virtual but the only one within tens if not hundreds of miles in Xi'an.

Sadly, the cache owner hadn't logged in for a while, and over the holidays it looks like two or three German cachers got carried away with themselves finding virtuals and Earthcaches in several countries in the same day (magic carpet???) and now as a result, this cache has bitten the dust!

Sad that the errant ways of a few have led to the demise of this cache which we really enjoyed.

Looks like they have even been to the UK and back today!

Strictly, of course, the archiving was within the rules er guidelines, but surely TPTB should be going after the errant loggers? But maybe they are.

  10. Just the following:

Your request has resulted in an error.

You may choose to retry your previous request.

Or you may tell us what you were doing when this error occurred.

    Geocaching.com

I do manage to get the full list of caches but when I go from there to bring up a cache , that is when I get the problem

Hmm. A bit of a loss there. I assume you are logged in? I have seen something similar but it has always been a gc.coom problem that has gone away, usually quite quickly.

Sorry not be of more help.
