  1. Doing a search on "bookcrossing" turns up a whole lotta references! Cache On!
  2. I believe that this was the first cache completely dedicated to Bookcrossing.com: HERE. It is true that the majority of the people who find either forgot to bring their Bookcrossing book to trade or didn't plan for it, and in those cases they have stuck to the rules by signing the log and taking/leaving nothing. I was really hoping that this summer that cache would get a lot of activity, but the others on the beaches did. I should be happy for ANY activity this summer, due to all of the fires. I did get an email recently from some folks on Bookcrossing.com that read my profile, and wrote to ask more questions about Geocaching. THAT is a good side of it. I've even agreed to swap some books via snail mail in order to place them in this cache from people who normally can't get to this area. Pretty cool. I would just like to see more of the books move... they are just like Travel Bugs to me. RedwoodRed How much red would a redwood red if a redwood could red wood?
  3. I just thought I'd share with everyone my recent documentation of "what travel bugs do when no one is watching"! Too much fun! RedwoodRed The GeoGadget Team How much red would a redwood red if a redwood could red wood?
  4. Check out Ram Mount. They sell bike mounts for specific GPS models and they have universal brackets for other models. RedwoodRed --- How much red would a redwood red if a redwood could red wood?

  6. quote:Originally posted by Number 6:Saw an interview with a tree hugger over the weekend discussing dams and other manmade structures. He said that in 10,000 years they won't be there and (paraphrased as best I remember it) "Thank God, man won't be around to mess things up anymore." FADE TO BLACK. You know, I want to know where those 'tree huggers' are when I forest begins to burn? Hmmm??? Are they throwing their bodies in front of the onrush of flames in an attempt to stop the destruction? NO. I mean, logging is such a heinous activity, even with strict controls to these people, and yet, undergrowth left to grow uncontrolled and logging roads that are bulldozed in order to control 'unnecessary' traffic into such areas are what is causing these forest fires to burn uncontrollably. Understand that I am familiar with the cycle of regeneration that occurs with forests and fires and I understand that the fires in Oregon, etc. are natural and will, to some degree, benefit the flora. But when is enough enough? It has taken the average Joe a few years to realize the benefits of forest management and normal ecological cycles, but some folks gotta take everything to the extreme. It isn't always "my way or the highway"... there is a middle ground. It is just that right now it is on fire. The land that is burning will rejuvenate itself. It is a natural cycle. The houses destroyed and the lives lost however, won't. RedwoodRed In Flames --- How much red would a redwood red if a redwood could red wood?

If the 'guy and girl' had gone to that park separately with the intent of 'hooking up' with a complete stranger just to have sex, YES, I would be equally shocked and offended. And no, the type of person who goes to a public place to behave in such a manner is looking for the thrill of being discovered. I am certain that they weren't at all put off by being found/caught. Let's get something straight (no pun intended) here, folks: These people are doing this in broad daylight and they aren't making a strong point about trying to hide themselves. While in So. California (no cracks (okay - no pun there, either!) about "Well hey, it IS California!), I have seen this type of activity happening in early evening right on a picnic table within sight of a little league game! I see this as nearly as heinous as people selling drugs in parks and such areas. I could care less what their sexual orientation is - if they weren't driving New Beetles and Mazda Miatas, they could just have sex in their cars, for crying out loud! This is one reason I carry a walking stick... if I witnessed this type of activity, especially if my kids were anywhere nearby, I would hit them with something hard that they really weren't expecting! This goes on because of apathy: People avert their eyes and turn away. This adds to their 'thrill'. Instead we should stand nearby and yell and cause a ruckus. Give them bad exposure (um, I'll stop fighting it...), attract too much attention to them. Act like a neighborhood watch program does and take your parks back from this kind of diseased behavior! No, it isn't my hormone levels... it's the law! RedwoodRed Incensed --- How much red would a redwood red if a redwood could red wood?

  9. Hey Rubbertoe... Is your Toe's picture turning redder and looking angrier? He looked like a happy toe before, as I recall. I have been wrong before, though. Or - and I am speculating here - is the Toe pictured above your good Toe's EVIL TWIN? OMG! Inquiring minds want to know. As for the "Can you hear me now?"-thing... I'm an amateur radio operator and this commercial has started a rash of hams saying that. "Good!" I'm beginning to hate that theme music. 10. Thanks Pepper and Mopar.... I almost didn't make it until 6 a.m. Began playing Baldur's Gate II and when 6 a.m. came around I was wide awake! Decided to check my pillow's density and I don't even remember my face hitting it, so I must have been tired! Third night up. My day life is suffering. With all of the activity, we aren't really getting as much news as we probably should. We aren't threatened here, yet. It has a long way to come and would have to burn through quite a bit of expensive real estate to get to the city. Fortunately, with the "Confligration Act" in place, and the fact that our situation has gone "national" (meaning that we are in a state of national emergency), we are getting a good deal of help from all over California, Oregon, Nevada, etc. If the two fires in So. Oregon meet up we will have a fire burning that is nearly 40 miles long. THAT is scary. My best friend lives in the Illinois Valley of So. Oregon and is currently on 30-minutes notice for evacuation. His family is terrified. Funny thing is his son and daughter-in-law moved there to get away from the garbage of So. California... and now it is like the wildfires from So. Cal. in Oregon! Weird. Thanks for good wishes. I'm praying and keeping my fingers crossed... and rubbing my eyes a lot. RedwoodRed
  11. Well, reporting from near the front lines... whooo-boy! Looks as though we here in Northern California and Southern Oregon have to worry about losing prime cache places (not to mention homes, lives, livestock, the use of our lungs...) due to one of the largest fires in recent Northwestern history. I believe I know of at least four caches threatened and possibly many more if the fire jumps the 199 Highway here north of Hiouchi. I know that Colorado and more recently, the Modesto area near Sequoia Nat'l Park was been heavily hit. Any other areas have serious wild fire issues going on? I have volunteered for communications duty during the hours that no one else wanted (midnight to six a.m.) until the fire is under control, so I'm trying to stay awake by typing this. I think I'll go make a pot of coffee... RedwoodRed --- How much red would a redwood red if a redwood could red wood?

  16. At first the article read like an attack on Geocaching by someone with minimal information, so I am glad that, as the article goes on, the situation is outlined more fully and the writer did the research. Yes, it does sound like an invitation. So far it seems that we have been thwarted at every turn... especially by park rangers. Now it is our own ranks who's actions are being called into question. Pay attention folks! Ask before placing caches in park areas! RedwoodRed - Habitual Cacher -- How much red would a redwood red if a redwood could red wood?

  22. I think that I may not have to worry about asking for this thing to be archived... the entire area has been evacuated (of those living nearby) and is currently restricted to firefighting agencies. This may be the case for your Mr. McGrew, too, makaio. The Sour-Bisquit complex fire has spread throughout that area and we will find out tonight if the entire Illinois Valley will be evacuated to Crescent City. Currently the Valley is cut off from Grants Pass due to the fire and it is my understanding that everything north of Cave Junction has already been evacuated. We are watching these fires very closely, as Steak and I are both assisting the Red Cross with communications and preparation for evacuation procedures. Once things calm down we will be up in that area and will try to find your cache. I will let you know as soon as possible it's fate. RedwoodRed

  25. Hey, any flick with Mewes, Lee and Smith together is worth paying to see. Funny, I've never heard of this work before. I'll have to put it on my Netflix queue. But I still fail to understand what that has to do with you, Eric, and someone else on their live webcam... Enough to get Chris excited, anyway!
