  1. Couldn't have put that better myself. It looks like another bout of stanav bashing by the media. I think that without the satnav even being there she would have done the same thing - maybe it was an incorrectly marked crossing or she was just not paying attention. I was going to put it: Yet another story of someone blaming their sat nav for the fact that they don't know how to drive properly.
  2. I went there when it first opened (wow, it was about 15 years ago!), and had a really great day out. I was very impressed by the cinema screens - Imax, 360 degrees and the flying carpet were my favorites. The water maze was one of my memories too.
  3. My Bond Bug-gery finished in (I think) second place (although it may have been third). It's currently sitting in the finish cache waiting for me to collect it and give it a new mission.
  4. If you do re-register under a new name (and even if you don't), turning off the caps lock would make your posts a lot easier to read. Other than that, welcome to the forums, and welcome to your new name if you do decide to re-register.
  5. The difference between swaps and trackables is that if you want to, you are allowed to keep a swap item, but the point of a trackable is to move from cache to cache, either to achieve its objective (such as when racing TBs) or to provide its owner with enjoyment at seeing how far their TB has gone. So the reason you don't have to leave a swap when taking a bug is that bugs are not normal swap items. Of course, if you want to leave a trade item when taking a TB, it adds to the value of that cache, so I don't think many people will complain. As for people taking a trade item when leaving a TB, well, that happens, and I think most people wouldn't mind having it politely pointed out that this is considered 'wrong' I have seen instances (although I can't remember when or where) of TBs involved in a race where someone has logged "Didn't take the TB because I didn't have anything to trade for it". I can imagine that the TB owner was disappointed that their TB hadn't moved in the race when it could have. To summarise - Cache swaps or trade items belong to the cache owner, so they should be swapped, but TBs belong to their owner, so their wishes should come first - move the bug ni a specific direction / move as far as possible etc.
  6. Only when they're used for malicious purposes. There's nothing wrong with having an additional account for placing caches, adopting archived ones, caching as family etc.
  7. Or so I thought! Can anyone help me understand how or why Interception Bug 2 is currently 'in' a micro (GC10VQD)? Thanks! I'm investigating that missing TB. It was logged into that micro by mistake, but dropped into another cache, and has been picked up by someone. I'm not sure whether they know how to handle TBs, so I've emailed them to ask about it. If I don't any response soon, I've got all the materials I need to release a copy of the TB.
  8. No, although the image makes the text look 3D with shadows, but I expect that can be done in html. the main problem was that Dan hosted the image on his own website, which has now closed. If he'd added the image to the cache gallery and linked to that, it would have carried on working. I think most people now use the cache's own gallery for images on the page.
  9. Is there any way of listing caches which contain a Jeep? (Yellow, White or Green). I've decided that I'd like to get the full set of Jeep icons. I know I could probably just pester Alibags to find some for me , but I want to find them 'in the wild'. Is there any tool which can do this?
  10. Well, the cache has now been un-archived, I've adopted it and updated the links and solution. I seem to have adopted this without giving anyone else a chance, so if anyone else did particularly want to adopt it, let me know and you can have it. I just wanted to make sure it didn't get archived. My thanks to Dan, Pid and Deceangi.
  11. Double Post! Darn that pesky refresh button!
  12. Thanks for the response Dan. I'd be happy to adopt Interception unless anyone closer wants it. It'd be a great shame to see it go. The formula for calculating the final co-ords has been put into the cache gallery by Subarite, and the cache box is healthy (well it was when I found is 2 months ago), so there's very little needed to get it back up and running.
  13. Interception cache has just been archived. I understand why because the final cache calculations are a picture file which was hosted on Dan's buckscaching.co.uk, which is now defunct. I'd probably be happy to take over maintenence for it, although it's a bit outside of my 'easy visit' area, but I'd be happy to take it over unless anyone else wants to, and we can arrange it with Dan / the powers that be. Does anyone have better contact details for Dan than the gc.com website? I've emailed him through there, but not had any response. Anyone any ideas? I suppose if we can't adopt it, then we could just place a new listing with the same location and clues, but that would lose the cache page history.
  14. Which half of the 1900s is 1926 in then?(Technically 'The 1900's' (sic) ran from Jan 1st 1900 to Dec 31st 1909. 1926 is in the 1920s. Now, if you'd have said the first half of the 20th century, that've been fine...) Of course. I've just learnt / re-learnt something for today!
  15. It all seems quite reasonable to me so far. Although I understand that 7.62mm is tricky to get hold of if you don't know the right people.
  16. I'll also add my impressed thanks to Garmin for returning me a brand spanking new etrex to replace my one with a missing page button and loose rubber band. I'll now be able to contribute to threads about waas/egnos. Thanks Garmin.
  17. Congratulations to Helen and Carolyn on getting to 600 during their trip to Hertfordshire for the Bones' Easter event. I'm not sure which cache was the 600th, because they did so many that day!
  18. I hesitate to ask, in case I'm being dim, but what's Bawnmuff ? Note to Forester: Firefox 2 has spellcheck capabilities so you can make sure you spell nationalities, countries and place names correctly! Great link to flashearth though! lets you switch from google maps to microsoft virtual earth etc. great for comparing aerial photos for the same place from different sources.
  19. Don't tie them - use a cord grip (like the one on the waist elastic of your fleece) to hold the 2 together, and pull them as tight as you like. One of my friends likes this method, but I don't - you have to cut the laces to be short enough to not trip over, and when you want to take them off, the laces then aren't long enough to get the boot off comfortably. It might be due to the material of the lace. a slippery material like polypropelene would slip out easier, but a rougher material like cotton might grip against itself better, allowing you to tie them tighter and resist more force from the grabbing brambles. Another option: wear gaiters over the top of your boots. They will cover up the laces and keep the brambles away from them. another option - get Ladysolly to tie them for you
  20. MarkandLynn have a few stash notes and labels on their website. You can get there through their profile.
  21. No, it's not. This often gets asked in the geocaching.com features forum. The only thing you can do is post a note asking watchers to let you know who they are. The other thing is to make your caches premium members only, which I believe gives you an audit trail of who visits your cache page.
  22. If it's geocaching related, is it Stinging Nettles?
  23. I've read here that some people photocopy both sides of their coin, stick each onto a metal washer, laminate that and release it. That way it has some thickness and weight so it feels more like a coin than just a thin laminated one. You'd have to check the max. thickness of your laminator though!
