  1. back roads where like an ice rink today, kinda fun with traction control
  2. may i make a suggestion to non garmin users, go to a local meet and meet someone with a garmin device that can pick up the chirp and arrange a time to go and find it together. If not im sure someone somewhere at the meet will just tell you where it is anyway (not that i agree with it). Like Wherigo started off on a pocket pc (which i dont own) and selected garmin devices it has now moved over to android and iphones. give this technology 6 months or so and there be little chirp reading devices being sold to pick up the signal (like wifi spot locator devices), im sure there is a little factory out in china making the devices as we speak.
  3. just an idea, but many years ago to knock the lock function off on a sony mars bar phone you covered all the pins with tin foil, this would reset the phone and it was ready to use again minus the lock. would covering all pins do the same on this?
  4. i use when when its very hot to keep the sweat away and sun off my head. winter i use one as a scarf to stop my neck getting cold and if weather is bad pull it up over my face. to cover my mouth and nose.
  5. eneloops seem to last well, but have found if you are out regularly that the duracell rechargables are just as good. certainly last longer than throw aways in my oregon. also have a maha 9000 charger which chargers better than the cheap chargers.
  6. click on the remove hardware at the bottom of the screen, this will stop the problems, well it works for me.
  7. oh yes forgot about easygps now i do all with gsak, but yes a good program that exists on my other machine.
  8. i bought a usb to serial lead, and downloaded the drivers (HL-340 so i found out after months of searching). if you have premium membership you can make up some pocket queries and use something like GSAK and when you need the caches use GSAK to send it across to the etrek.
  9. im looking for new boots, so thought some recommendations would be here.
  10. once again an excellent podcast colin. next one please
  11. we been attacked, mrs text just got over the gate as the horn came up, fastest she got over any gate that day lol.
  12. name and shame them on here and we will deal with them
  13. oh goody two more, a few people have mentioned to me they are going to get some chirps as they are pleased with how good mine works. now i can get out and try some other peoples ideas for chirp caches
  14. i always look forward to the podcasts, maybe there are some other people who could help colin with the podcasts?
  15. mine arrived today, will sort out minitexts bouncyball cache i keep meaning to put out and make it a chirp bouncyball cache (2 birds one stone idea). are we going to call them CHIRP followed by the cache name and whos doing the bookmark for chirp caches?
  16. mine should be here in next two days then. minitexts bouncyball cache can then go out as i promised they go out in the next cache. Just wondering if the import tax bill will come through in a couple of weeks time? been caught out before this way.
  17. the army surplus shop in oxford off the botley road had a load when i passed a few weeks back, didnt get to see the price, but must have a look soon.
  18. well said mouse, i cant do some puzzle caches does that mean they should be banned too???
  19. Well i jumped in and ordered one, see how that performs first before i get anymore (or wait for a cheaper uk supplier lol). So Oxfordshire should soon have its first Chirp cache. From what im reading of it, if its a CHIRP cache and no other way of finding the co ords it has to be listed as a mystery cache and have a beacon icon. I have seen other (flame) threads on the subject trying to stop them being allowed, but then surely the chirp will be no different to these 802.11 caches where you need to come up with a wifi device to search for a signal. Anyone got any tips or ideas etc for placing a Chirp cache? i think if we can keep to a standard (and not end up finding a micro or nano) then we could bring in a new standard of quality caches/caching.
  20. go to a local event or two. i bought my oregon 300 before seeing one and all people had was the older garmin gcx i think, now they all have oregons. as newer ones come out someone will buy one and then show it off at an event so you can see then if its any good or to your needs.
  21. where can i get one from in the uk? if they not available yet then could someone recommend a site which would ship to uk? many thanks in advance.
