  1. Lead Dog, I'm heading to Salamonie in a couple of weeks. I looks like Patrick has been very busy there. We enjoyed your caches at Huntington Lake and look forward to more. BTW - There are a couple of nice caches just north of Rochester. One is a virtual cache, so read the description first (I didn't). We stopped at the Fulton County museum which is nearby. It is a fascinating collection of antique farming equipment in a round barn and has many nice historical exhibits in other buildings. OD Fort Wayne
  2. I had the same problem when I was starting out. I wrote a very simple program that translates .LOC files into DeLorme draw files for import as waypoints. I use this a lot. Then I transfer waypoints into my Garmin GPS receiver from the mapping software. The program I wrote has selectable DeLorme symbols and can concatenate several .LOC files into one .TXT file. I have posted the program on the web at My Webpage I also found that searching by zip code is cumbersome, and by getting LAT/LON from a cursor position in the mapping software and searching for caches via location is much more efficient.
  3. The GPSBabel software looks a lot more flexible than what I did. Thanks for the link. My effort was mostly an exercise that allowed me to learn about XML parsing. If anyone is interested in the program, it can be found at My Webpage. It can concatenate several .LOC files into one output file which is useful when grabbing locations from the web site. Thanks for the reply.
  4. I'm new to geocaching and found it fairly complex to filter all of the locations to my local area. To help, I wrote a small Windows program that converts the .LOC files downloaded from www. geocaching.com into .TXT files that can be imported into DeLorme's Street Atlas USA 2004 and Topo USA version 5. I realize that this is much less sophisticated than other available software, but it is very simple and quick. If anyone else would like this software, please respond and I will put this on a web site for download. I will reply with the location. I would normally just put it up there, but I'm curious to see if anyone else finds this useful.
