Would each of the posters who compared GC.com to various dictators and tyrants, past and present, please stop and think about what you are saying, and think about who might be reading this?

 

Groundspeak has a user population of a little under three million, and tens of thousands read these forums. One subset is a number users unhappy that they can't play a game on their cellphobne. Another subset includes people who really have suffered under some oppression -- either themselves having been jailed, or having relatives who were jailed, tortured, or executed under such regimes.

 

Inconvenienced cellphone users comparing themselves to political prisoners or the ghosts of death camps? It is beyond ignorant, it is obscene.

 

I wish the moderators would close this thread, or delete it, even though that might be seen as speaking out against the freedom to complain about not being able play a game on a cellphone. So in the name of preserving that very important freedom, I would ask everyone who has written or read such bizarre comparisons to think about it, and then observe a moment of silence for whichever group evokes more sympathy in you.

While I completely agree with your statement, I'd prefer those few posts be deleted, rather than the entire thread. I believe there has been some very constructive discussion from both sides. I'd hate to see that go away.

I am Groundpeak's legal counsel and I am responsible for protecting Groundspeak intellectual property (Trademarks, Copyrights, Patents) as well as enforcing the Terms of Use Agreement.

 

The GZCII application is using Groundspeak's registered Trademarks and other intellectual property without consent. The GCZII application is an automated tool that scrapes data from the geocaching.com website without authorization in violation of the Geocaching.com Terms of Use Agreement.

 

At this point, the application developer and I will be meeting shortly to discuss options. Until the issues are resolved between Groundspeak and this developer, we have no interest in allowing the application to be promoted in the Groundspeak discussion forums and we will not be issuing further comments regarding this application.

When you first yelled "sucks" in the middle of your message, I started thinking these were the ramblings of a lunatic mind, but then when you started in on pulling ones head out, I just stopped reading

 

If you want your message to be taken seriously, keep the tone civil, and don't make insults or references to body parts.

 

Alright, you want constructive criticism without the lashings?

 

Offer to buy the code-base for GCzII from "Tom" and sell it us. I'm willing to pay something for it and I noticed others are as well.

The new GC.com web site makes tools for online caching like GCzII unfunctional

 

I guess this was the main hidden reason for this huge and ugly change..

 

I don´t understand this new policy at all, rendering all stuff that worked unusable..

 

I´ve spoken to many cacher-friends and if things stay like this, we are not going to renew our Premium memberships.

 

If this is what Groundspeak wanted to achieve, then OK, but I think someone in the management is making some really stupid decisions.

 

Seems that Groundspeak is acting like a monopol and it really sucks.

 

Don´t they care at all for what people really want?!!

 

I whole-heartedly agree with you. I can't use the iPhone app because AT&T doesn't have service in my area. I can't use Trimble's app because they don't have anything for US Cellular's HTC Touch Pro 2. That leaves me with BasicGPS, which quite frankly, SUCKS compared to GCzII. It just isn't workable for me to pull down all the caches into a GPX and import them. Half the time I go geocaching on a whim.

 

GC.com, pull your head outta your you-know-where before you lose another paying customer.

 

My two basic requirements for a GC app are:

1. Real-time access to caches on geocaching.com

2. Ability to integrate with google maps for navigating to the cache

 

If someone can point me to something that can do this and doesn't violate the ridiculous TOU, please let me know.
