  1. There are so many different preferences from one kind of GPSr to another. I personally like the Garmin eTrex. It is simple to operate, small, water resistant and (at the time I bought it) priced right. If you know of anyone who has one, ask them to show you how it works. Some are easier to use than others. Good luck and welcome to the "hunt". phantom KB5YUE "Free your mind" - The Matrix

  5. ...you have duct taped a two way radio of some type (HAM, GMRS, FRS, MURS) to the GPSr, as well as a small weather radio receiver. The geocache "jump bag" is carried with you every time you go out the door, and the geocache youngsters fight over the GPSr. phantom KB5YUE "Free your mind" - The Matrix

  10. If it seems to be a long walk/hike to find the cache, take along, some water, munchies, maybe even a first aid kit. Have fun with it...and if at first you don't succeed, try again. phantom "DOH!" -- Homer Simpson

  12. Skorpyon and I went to the "Dollar Store" and just made a small $5.00 purchase of little nick-nacks. The one thing that you do need is a good working pen/pencil and ziplock baggies. When you start hunting for caches, you can move objects around from one site to the other. Good luck. KB5YUE phantom "DOH!" -- Homer Simpson
  13. you won't really know unless you try. If after a trial period (3-4 months), you can archive the cache, move it to a new location and start all over. phantom "DOH!" -- Homer Simpson

  16. Personally, I prefer the eTrex. It is small, tough and accurate. The price was good too. $115.00 U.S. at the good ole Wal-Mart. phantom "DOH!" -- Homer Simpson

  24. I am originally a "gadget guy" who loves gadgets of any type, shape, size. I first started using the GPS for our Volunteer Fire Department when we needed to give coordinates to helicopter pilots at accident scenes. The I started using it for hunting and fishing spots because I got tired of marking maps. Then I found Geocaching. There was a news story on CNN one day and it grabbed my attention. I was bitten by the bug. The rest is history. phantom "DOH!" -- Homer Simpson
  25. Good question. I am planning soon to have a friend help me with his bout at a nearby lake. My initial idea was to use a 3 liter soda bottle tied off to a rope which is tied onto a brick or some type of anchor. the bottle then floats up as high as you allow the cord/rope to do so. I'm thinking having it placed near a pier or bridge support approx. 3 feet under the water. The contents inside would be minimal and small. Let us know how it goes. phantom phantom "DOH!" -- Homer Simpson
