  1. TexMedPlacer rated his Enigma cache a 2.5. I've decoded the coordinates, and I'm pretty sure that I have them right, but haven't had time to find the cache (but the long weekend is coming)!
  2. I just got my Garmin 60C, and couldn't be happier. Really comfortable size, easy to use, lots of memory (although not as much as the 76), easy to see the display in any lighting conditions. For me, the size and feel of the 60C compensates for slightly less memory compared to the 76. I just got City Select NA v6 and US topo to download on-road and off road maps, and plan to do lots of caching this weekend. I am having a great time with this unit (until the credit card bill arrives). In the meantime I'm looking for a cache with cash, and rummaging around in my sofa cushions. Many cachers rave about the Legend, and the new Legend C is supposed to have a great display. You may want to search the forums for that.
  3. Error 22 immediately sends you to Area 51, but your 60cs shows your current position as 867-5309 (now THERE's an obscure reference, except for you Tommy Tutone fans!) Maybe I should have gone with 634-5789 for the Wilson Picket fans in the group. OT, I have no idea. Please excuse this superfluous post.
  4. I found it interesting that you can read this at near normal speed with total comprehension (at I least I can, but I can't spell). P.S. Apparently, this is NOT actually a research result from Cambridge, but an experiment in Intenet folklore dispersion. Pretty interesting anyway. Edit: more direct link.
  5. Translation: coded the html for the September issue in addition to writing own articles and editing others. At least the pay is great!
  6. Spunik 57 is now a 60C guy! LOT'S of great info on this thread. Thanks for all who have contributed. I came across this review of the 60C. It anwered several of the questions/comments posted on the last 6 pages including: and and I also found this page with step by step instructions and screen shots for routing very helpful. Sputnik
  7. Is PEBKAC anything like ID 10 T? My IT guy keeps telling me that I have an ID 10 T problem.
  8. First, GS, welcome to the Recreational Activity/Sport/Hobby. It's always nice to have new people participate. As for some good tips for getting started, I highly recommend: Markwell's Update to [Geocache] FAQs and Geocacher University There is a lot of other good info out there. Hang around in the forums (ignore the topics that are just gripes). You'll learn a lot. There is nothing like experience to help you spot that certain something that seems out of place, leading you to that elusive cache. Hang in there. Sput Edit: to add this link
  9. I think most people would find a one-yard pace to be a bit of a stretch. In high school, we would sometimes march "six to the five," which is 6 steps every 5 yards. That was actually a pretty comfortable "pace" for most people. Interestingly, this is equal to dictionary.com's definition #2, "A unit of length equal to 30 inches (0.76 meter)." I'm guessing that Papade's 5.5' pace is the two step version, at 33" per stride (Popade is probably pretty tall). It is almost as bad as the practice in Texas of measuring legal descriptions in "varas," a Spanish unit of measure of between 32 and 43 inches. But this one time, at band camp, . . . No wait. That's a different story.
  10. I think that was Tucson, AZ, but I could be wrong.
  11. Snuck in ahead of you with your link, PS.
  12. More (if sometimes less conventional) vocabulary here
  13. I think my college English professor just 'rolled-over' in her grave Or, in the sarcastic words of Winston Churchhill, “This is the sort of English up with which I will not put.”
  14. I tried Robespierre's link and it appeared to be broken. I suggest you try (not necessarily in this order): The Geocachin FAQ Geocaching Guide to Finding a Geocache Markwell's Update to the Geocaching FAQ Geocacher University Texas Geocaching Association (I know you're not in Texas, but it has some good info) Buxley's Geocaching Waypoint A Lexicon of Geocaching Today's Cacher Online Magazine (Hi Pyewacket! ) Geocaching Today Online Magazine
  15. I've been making a list of all the lists that I've been making. I didn't think of it as exercise until now. No wonder I am exhausted! OT, I'm all for keeping this thread going to compile a list. Even if I don't know who MY approver is, it lets me know who THE approvers are. I can then go to 9-Key (or whoever) and ask a question, not expecting that he'll drop everything to help me out, but hoping that when he gets a Round Tuit (Bosun leaves them as Sig items down here on the Texas gulf coast), he might drop me a line and point me in the right direction.
  16. In urban areas, you may also need to watch out for local residents. Take a look at the logs for this cache. (Please ignore my dnf. I'll be back!)
  17. Surprised that Markwell didn't send you here. He linked to one of the calculators he has listed, but there are other good resources on his FAQ. I always go to Markwell's page whenever I have a question like this.
  18. Nice piece, JMBella. And I thought we Texans had heavy accents! Edited to add: MileHigh, what a great piece. No wonder you were sucked in.
  19. I'm not sure whether this is what you're talking about, but there is a discussion of a related topic here.
  20. Seen a ZIP and want to know where it is? Try this very cool Ben Fry page. Just type in the zip and it zeros right in. I'll have to admit, though, that it reminds me of the east coast blackout a few years ago. SO glad Texas has its own power grid.
  21. Asking to "borrow" software is considered extremely bad forum etiquette. Before a moderator warns you and closes this thread, I suggest that you close it yourself, with Ms Emily Latella's oft quoted "Never mind."
  22. Sixten, Growing up in Tucson, I knew a police officer who was a mere 6' 8". He was pretty intimidating. If anyone asked him how tall he was, he said, "Five foot twenty." He thought it sounded like less of a treat. I guess that makes you five foot twenty-two!
  23. There is always the "print this topic" link at the top of the page.
