  1. Hopefully we'll have more to add after our impending road trip but for now my personal faves are Trammel Fossil Park GCN170, Miss Daisy-We Have A Gusher GC1055Y, and Shiny Rocks-Crater Of Diamonds GCZNR8. At the first one and last one you keep what you find. There are admission fees for the last two but in my opinion both are worth the price.

    NYC

The wife and I will be trying to sneak through the city next weekend on I-95. We don't have time to do the city so we were wondering if it would be easier to get through town late Saturday night or early Sunday morning? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.
  3. We here at the Casa de Neos are feeling the crunch but we're still planning a fourteen state, 2300 mile caching/sightseeing road trip in July. As my ever charming partner says, "That's what credit cards are for."
  4. Let me preface this by saying that I hate multis for the most part but quite probably three of my favorite caches are multis. I agree with my wife, Neos2, on Music Legend & Rock and Roll because I'm a musician and the stages took me to a couple of places that I found well... one is iconic in rock history and the other was kind of like meeting an old friend. But far and away my favorite multi and quite possibly the most unique cache I have ever done is called Making The Connection GCHNF5. It's a mystery multi and I don't remember how many stages there were (at least five) but there are two physical caches involved, several puzzles and multiple phone calls. I highly recommend this cache to any and everyone. You go to a location, solve a puzzle, make a phone call to a voice prompt system, and get the coords for the next stage. It involves driving around Elizabethtown, Kentucky and solving fairly easy puzzles. If you do this one, you will need a vehicle. I would also recommend a cell phone and an assistant. We managed to do the whole thing in about an hour but your actual time may vary.
  5. How do you figure this was "more than a year"? We didn't even start discussing it until July of '06 and it was months until the design was finalized. Easy there Mr Neos, please. At this point in the process I get annoyed easily. You know good and well that this took far too long. That is the basis of my post and for some reason you take issue with it. Could the sucking sound I hear from your post be due to the fact that your suggested design was used and one could consider this 'your coin'? Here's one fact you missed. Neos2 is Mrs Neos and she was the one that did the work on the coin. As for the sucking sound, I won't get into that but I don't think it was coming from this computer. As for berating you, all I saw was a question about your time frame.

September 8th, 2007. The planning team is already at work. Deermark Hey Deermark, Next question. Where? I heard but I forgot.
  8. I just remembered that I have to go by there for work tomorrow afternoon. There are 4 bugs logged into the cache. If no one has gone after them yet, I'll pick them up tomorrow. If someone has already gotten them, thanks.
  9. I think that was number 101 or 102 for me. This was also taken right before the "Last Ride At Rose Island". Also Neos2 says Ding! Ding! Ding! Your turn.
  10. Anyone in the Frankfort, Ky area with a little time to kill could do someone a great service by going to the westbound I-64 Frankfort rest area and rescuing 4 travel bugs from a tree. Using the coords for this cache: Another Rest Area, Another Micro. It will take you near an evergreen tree that is supposed to have 4 TB's on the lowest branch (about 8 feet up). I live 60 miles away and will make the trip if I have to. The reason I have this information is I own the cache listed above and I got this log just a few minutes ago: Location: Kentucky, United States LETSRACE found The Original Another Rest Area, Another Micro (Traditional Cache) at 2/17/2007 Log Date: 2/17/2007 Well, I think I found it. I had to travel to Indiana today and stopped off to drop off 4 travel bugs. There was a lot of snow flying and on the ground. The coords led me to a big pine tree that had all the lower limbs recently trimmed off to the trunk. I'm assuming the cache was hidden here somewhere. I needed to move the TB's so I placed the ziplock on as high of a limb as I could reach. Please rescue these bugs before they get muggled. I really don't think they'll be noticed by anyone with the bad weather......but try to send someone by to pick them up if you can......Thanks (Names withheld) Kenova, WV They haven't logged the bugs into the cache yet so I don't know what's there but if they really are there then I'm sure the owners would appreciate some rescuing them.
  11. I'm not familiar with the Navman but see if you can change the datum set to WGS 84 which is what Groundspeak uses or convert the WGS 84 to the format of your unit. Also you may want to see if you can enter the coordinates as a waypoint instead of trying to get the numbers to match up. I just looked at the manual online and couldn't find much in the way of useful information but I just skimmed it. If you can manage these 2 things, it will improve your experience immeasurably.
  12. The biggest problem I see with the final part of your suggested "rating scale" is that it is too subjective. Remember, everyone has an opinion and while someone might rate a cache as excellent, the next finder might consider it lame and so on ad infinitum.
  13. There was a little something in the mail for me when I got in from work a little while ago. This ranks right up there with the time I had the host group from Red Crow shake my hand and thank me for my service. The coin is gorgeous. Thank you very much.
  14. E-mail sent. ST USN mid-70's, 710 class destroyer. Alligator Navy rocks. It's nice to be appreciated every now and then. Thank you.
  15. Hi and welcome to the addiction... I mean...er... game. My first unit was a Garmin Legend and I still have it though it's been relegated to backup status. You can get a Legend for around $120.00 new now. We here at Team Neos think it's about the best entry level GPSr going. Others may have different opinions (check local listings) but the Legend has the qualities you seek. Whatever you decide on, happy caching.
  16. Both the Garmin GPSmap 60csx and the Garmin GPSmap 76csx have autorouting features. My husband uses the 60cs and I have a 76cs, they also have autorouting. You will want to add a good map to take the best advantage of this feature. City Select or City Navigator for US urban use and US topo for the wild areas in the US. You can compare features of various Garmin units at:http://www.garmin.com/outdoor/compare.jsp (Edited to change a typo, but while I'm here I should add that this is a Neos2 post--which makes Team Neos even, as Neos1 made a post yesterday under my forum account, and now I have made one on his.)
  17. I'd say if you're only going to spring for 1 set of maps, go for the CN. You live near a major metropolitan area and I don't care how long you haved lived there, I guarantee geocaching will take you places you never knew existed. It'll be kind of hard finding these obscure places on a topo map. Also if you travel, the CN will earn it's keep fairly quickly. I drive a truck for a living. Not a long haul driver but I spend most of my time on little 2 lane county roads looking for horse or poultry farms or at the other extreme, inner city stuff looking for small factories and businesses. I don't go anywhere without my 60cs with the maps loaded for that area. Good luck and welcome to the addiction.
  18. I drive a truck for a living and go NOWHERE without my Garmin 60cs. It has a friction mount that withstands the ride in a semi quite nicely and with the exception of those occasions when the screen is in direct sunlight, I have no trouble reading the screen. I spend a lot of time on country 2 lanes and doing inner city stuff and it has saved my rear on a number of occasions. I also agree with Briansnat that the beep warning is enough. We don't need no stinkin' voice prompts. The routing software is pretty good with a number of options for vehicle types and/or pedestrian travel. The only regret I have about owning my 60 is I got it right before the csx was released. The major differences being a newer, better chip set and removable memory in the csx. And did I mention that I love my 60 for caching. Beats my wife's 76 hands down.
  19. I agree with this line of reasoning. It sounds like juvenile testosterone bluster to me. This is also a possibility except for some questionable dates like these 2 that happen to be in the same rest area: GCTKV0 and GCKDYR. Why not show both caches on the same day if the finds were legit? This was also taken into consideration. Why did the individual not respond to my e-mail asking for an explanation. Had it been something as simple as that I would have said okay and let it go. I know of several people who, for 1 reason or another have started a new account and gone back and relogged all their previous finds under the new name with no trouble and none of them had to post "death to" anyone anywhere.
  20. My SO attended an event with me back in October, but just joined the site the other day. She has yet to backlog her caches, but will do so soon. Even though it will show a join date of December, she will be logging caches from October (she'll use that date, not the date she logs the caches). Her name is in the logbooks (but not under the name she eventually chose), however, so it's a non-issue. Just wanted to point out there is a way someone can log a cache from before their join date--but the online log should make some sort of reference to the reason behind the date discrepancy, but perhaps not everyone thinks it will be an issue when they're doing it. I understand your reasoning which was why I gave the individual an opportunity to explain. I specifically asked about the discrepancy. If your SO or anyone on the level were to receive an email asking why there was a discrepancy, don't you think they would respond in a timely manner instead of logging caches in Europe and posting death threats in their logs there? I checked the person in question's profile and most of the caches were logged on 1 or 2 days except the archived caches which were conveniently logged just prior to the cache being archived in most cases.
  21. Allow me to add my 2 cents worth. The log I deleted was on a cache that was archived some 7 weeks before this person's profile says he joined. Kind of hard to check a log when the ammo box has been missing for over a month, hence the archive. I e-mailed the cc and asked how he could log a cache 7 weeks before he joined. I got no response so bye-bye log. Interestingly enough this cache was in a rest area that has a micro owned by me and the rest area across the interstate also has a micro owned by me. Both of those were logged on December 9 but the archived cache was logged on September 9, right before it was archived. I would like to go on record as saying that Death to Neos 1 is a totally inappropriate response since I gave this individual a chance to clarify or at least plead their case.
  22. Congrats on the big 3K. I still have that coin we discussed.
