  1. 1. Last night, I stopped in Salt Lake City for a cup of coffee at midnight. Then I drove until 4:30 in the morning. Where did I end up stopping?(where I am now) Motel 6
  2. Thanks guys for all of the responses on this topic. My mind has went back and forth on this issue. I received the tokens in the mail yesterday... they are actually better looking than most of the crap that I find in the caches. I don't know... can't help but want to participate. The more that I think about it... it seems like anything that you find in a cache is commercial. For example, if you open up a cache to find a set of pathtags... they tell you to visit the pathtags website to log the tag. They, in turn, hope that you decide to create your own pathtag... commercialism. Or... say you find a travelbug in a cache... that travelbug is in itself a form of commercialism that is set up in order to promote the purchase of more travelbugs. On the other side of the fence, I realize.. even though I am a newbie... that this is not a game that would truly benefit from high-end commercialism. For example, the XGAMES really promoted extreme sports in the 90's. It started a craze that spread these sports to BFE towns in rural places... even ohio. That promotion spread the idea of extreme sports... athletes gained from the creation of better equipment... but the idea of extreme sports has become rather close-minded. Instead of just going out and having fun, the athletes are going out to win the competition in order to gain more sponsors. Could this happen in geocaching... it is unlikely, but there could be similarites. Hope this helps express my point of view. I think that I will place these tokens in caches... but I am going to do my own twist. I will only leave them in rural caches... and I will leave a note explaining why I am leaving them... maybe place them in a ziplock back with a WARNING sticker about commercialism. Thanks, Goose
  3. I'm goin' to vote for atlantagal's coin... I like those colors... they're perty.
  4. Opinion Poll: Ummm ya... too hard... or Im not smart enough. That cointest was tragically difficult... too bad I am not very good at recognizing coins. Anywho, in a lighter note... I think that I could be a little better at a lottery version of this cointest... so count me in! Thanks... Goose
  5. I placed a cache at a park beside a local fire department a couple of weeks ago. I thought that it was hidden pretty well... but I guess that I had thought wrongly. Should I replace the cache immediately or wait a couple weeks? Also, should I place it in the same general area (+ or - a few feet).. or move it farther away (30 to 40 feet)? Just wondering... I am still new at this! Thanks, Goose
  6. The silver one is beautiful... thanks for posting!
  7. Texting while driving is a gamble You bet your life postage: $2.17
  8. ok... i redid this with the new template... thanks! oh and I think that I like the look of the dark nickel on it now... anyways... i hope that changing a few things on it doesn't void me from the competition. I think that it looks a lot more clean now. I'm not very good with graphic arts... but I tried. There are a lot of very good works out there! This has been a pretty fun competition. Thanks! pms1375 pms 485 and pms 312 blue... which i can't find a pic of
  9. Very southwestern to me, but I love the coloring. Thanks! Maybe that is what I was thinking... I guess southwestern is just like a darker color schemed caribbean.
  10. Try looking here. This has all of the specialty colors (glows, glitters and translucent enamels). It does not show all of the possible platings, however. And if you want to use solid colors, all you have to do is specify the PMS color. There's a link to a PMS chart on that page, but look out for the colors that say <number> x2. That means "print the color twice" for a deeper, richer version of that color. You can't do that in enamel. I hope this helps! thanks Jackal!
  11. oh darn.... didn't realize that there are certain colors that we are supposed to use ... could somebody elaborate for me. Thanks, Goose
  12. tryin to give this one a caribbean-ish feel. used a burnt orange (pms) dark red (pms) dark aqua (pms) I know that the caribbean uses brighter colors... but they were hurting my eyes Thanks for the neat project! (edit) oh and the flares on mine should also be the metal.... sorry. (edit...edit) oh.... i like that in antique silver because of silver from mexico.... also i see sea turtles every time we go to st. george island, Fl .... which is caribbean
  13. Whoa.... that should be on man vs. wild.... he wouldn't know how to survive on that road.
  14. I heart silver... but that is just me.
  15. not a bad price... hmmm I might have to consult with one of my friends about this. She could help me design a stamp and point me into the right direction. Thanks!
  16. or you could just give them to me... because it is against my new belief system to promote or pay for services
  17. Thanks for all of the replies... I am now debating whether I will take part in this or not. I guess that I didn't realize how frowned upon this would be. I guess that I understand that geocaching should not become comercialized (sp? sorry I've been taking spanish and it is messing with my english spellings)... lord knows that I could not handle a Starbucks at every cache site. Thanks, Goose
  18. whoa... those are amazing Are you looking for one of these? I have one available... CF30 I've always been interested in ceramics and metallurgy.... It never fails to catch my attention. I can't really explain why. I just think that it is fascinating what creative ideas the human mind is capable of. I just think that coin is truly a traveling piece of art. Oh, to answer your question... yes... but I don't have anything to trade... sorry.
  19. Found some old posts... http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php...8979&st=100 those tikis are amazing... I would love to have those artistic skills. Thanks for all of the information guys!
  20. whoa... those are amazing I wonder how one would go about getting a tracking #
  21. I know that this is my second topic tonight... but I am just interested because I am new. Has anybody made geocoins by hand. I know that they wouldn't be trackable via geocaching.com, but I think it would be neat to make personal items like this. I am taking another ceramics course this fall and I think that I might try my hand at it. If ceramics are good enough for the space shuttle, then they are durable enough for me. Any ideas as to how to go about doing this? I could make a die... that way I could make one to keep and a couple to place in caches. What other forms have been attempted? Thanks for your comments/suggestions
  22. I am new to this.... but it seems to be the Butt ugly coins that return to the owner... the pretty ones seem to be the ones that get muggled. I have no problem in "earning" these coins for the sole purpose of getting more coins into circulation.
  23. I guess it is pretty commercial, but they look a lot better than half the crap that I find in caches anyway. Placing the tokens that they give you seems no different than people placing their business cards in a cache... plus the tokens are much better looking imo than business cards. Also, how is this much different than McToys in caches... are they not promoting McD's (no offense to those McToy collectors)? So, I guess it just depends on the mindset of the cacher.
  24. Has anybody out there earned this geocoin? http://www.eatstayplay.com/Coin/Forum.html I wish that there were more sites out there that would attempt to spread their name like this... lol. Seems like pretty cheap advertisement if you ask me. Mossy Oak should try it
  25. Depends what you want to do with it. -If you want to give the coin away... then by all means place it in the cache without activating it. -If you want to keep it as part of your circulating collection... then you had better activate it.
