  1. There are plenty of things I like about your country, and I really want to go there one day, to enjoy your great nature and to take a few caches. A pilgrimage to GCGV0P is #1 on my wish list. There are of course things I don't fancy that much too, and the strange attitude when it comes to land owning is one. How can a land owner prohibit someone from being in the nature? This is a thing unheard of in my country, on the contrary, we have a set of old rules saying that as long as you "do not disturb and do not destroy" you're free to go anywhere in the countryside. No landowner can keep you from walking in his forest. I believe this attitude fosters a trust in people's judgement, and I don't think anyone would dream of prohibiting caching in his land. If you're interested, you can read here about our Right of Public Access.
  2. As long as we're out there... Name: "On the spot". Oh, I so want to go there...
  3. I tried this search string on Google: scheduled screen capture software . Quite a few results. Here's a link: http://www.google.se/search?hl=sv&q=schedu...+software&meta=
  4. Perhaps he's thinking of the French word "merde" which MR2 would resemble. A common swearword, like "s***" in English. Edit: Hey, I didn't put those asterisks there!
  5. Sounds interesting, could anyone give an example, please?
  6. I don't think anybody here is looking for "valuable stuff". What they would like is that other geocachers don't use caches as garbage disposals. And next time I go hunting with my 4 year old nephew and he's disappointed by a box full of trash, I'll tell him you said it was all about the hunt. "Valuable" does not necessarily mean expensive. I did not mean expensive. And I bet your nephew finds McToys being pretty valuable.
  7. Cache finders: TNLNSL, go for the hunt and the location, and then you don't have to worry. If you really want the pastic boxes to contain valuable stuff, the only thing you can do to improve things is to set a good example. It's either that or TNLNSL. Cache hiders: Leave your stuff in the cache and then forget it. What's the point of trying to keep people trading fairly or to keep up the monetary value of the cache contents as long as there are people caching. People in general aren't fair. Your job is to see to that the rubbish is kept dry. 'Cause if it is, so is the log. And the log is the heart of the game.
  8. Ah, silly me, it's a note *to* the reviewer, not the other way around. I thought I suddenly had access to one of those secret options, like when you're left alone at teacher's office and the grading tables are lying there right in front of you along with an eraser and a pencil.
  9. When I log one of my own caches, "Post Reviewer Note" is one of my options. Is it supposed to be?
  10. I second that. I've selected metric units in my profile, but it doesn't work on TB distances.
  11. Jeez, if someone came up with a racist cache event, what would you use for arguments? You've used them all up on this trifling matter.
  12. Why should we outlaw and ban the words "fair" and "cheating" in geocaching? Edit: It's hard to advocate freedom of action when you're using words like "outlaw" and "ban". Perhaps we should ban them?
  13. I've noticed that there actually are caches with several logged finds by the same cacher. I didn't even know it's possible. I would think that you wouldn't do it because of some "fair game" priniciple, but since it's possible it's obviously done. I also noticed that all those finds actually count in the personal stats. Should it really? I don't go for the numbers, but still, numbers are magical and I'm aiming for something special for my 100th cache. If I'd "cheated" myself that way, that 100th cache wouldn't be anything special, would it? Cause it really wouldn't be #100. But then again, it is my belief no man ever understands quite his own artful dodges to escape from the grim shadow of self-knowledge. (Quiz time: Who wrote that?) Shouldn't it be impossible to log more than one find per cache? And if it should be possible, by some reason I can't find out right now, should the stats really count more than one find per cache?
  14. Sorry Hedberg, but I have to contradict you in this matter. Whether or not our Swedish taxes are high is debatable, some think you actually get what you pay for. But I'm know for sure it's *not* a common opinion in Sweden that trash should be "picked up by the government". The common opinion is, in Sweden as well as in any other country, that people should take their trash with them so no one has to pick it up for them. And as in all other countries there are a few who don't give a dadgum whether the government or anybody else has to do it for them. I practise CITO (pronounced seeto here, short second syllable, no meaning as Hedberg mentioned) whenever I cache, not by bringing large sacks and methodically filling them, but by taking a few things with me in a little plastic bag, thinking it will make a difference if all cachers and outdoor people do the same.
  15. I agree, it is a bit hard to see which one of the three squares that is coloured. However, I don't think it would make it more intuitive to colour *several* squares, but I do think the grayed out colour of the empty ones is to weak. Rather this than this
  16. A few words of caution from a participant in this *global* sport: Never heard of a decon containter. There seem to be an abundance of ammo cans in the USA, in my country we rarely or never see them, and they don't look at all like yours. Don't know how much a gallon is unless I look it up and compare it to liters. Inches I know better, but it's still difficult (centimeters here). The only "standard" container mentioned so far that I think is globally wellknown is the film canister for micros. Can't think of any other containers of the same global standard dignity at the moment, but I'm sure a clever mind out there will think of something.
  17. 6 new caches in an area were caches are few and far between and you want them to "knock it off" just because they didn't fill their caches with dollar store junk... are you mad? I'll trade you a dozen burned out Southern Oregon cachers for these new enthusiastic ones. I agree. I made a "Map it" on one of the caches, there really aren't that many caches around there. Others who like to trade may not agree, but I'm the TNLN sort of guy, and I really want the searching and the location to be worthwhile. Hope you'll make him stuff the boxes with better things with your logs, Bob. However, I'm curious (as always). Do people trade your CD's? I would never use software from a homemade CD found in a cache.
  18. Great! Thanks! Hope I didn't spoil the fun for all the newbies.
  19. I keep reading about those US lamp post caches. Our Swedish lamp posts are usually no good for cache hiding, not even with magnets. Makes me a bit curious, what do they look like those lamp posts that apparently are perfect for stashing micro caches (film canisters?). Could someone post a picture?
  20. Ouch. OK, I won't take that personally, I'm often serious and I'm often outdoors, which hopefully would qualify me for the above mentioned group. I hope my carrying a Victorinox won't make me an unserious indoorsperson. I so much want to belong to the serious outdoors ones. I don't know what you mean though, Victorinox makes sturdy stuff, and the tools fold out neetly, year after year. Haven't used my lifetime warranty yet, and I tell you, I have chopped wood with that knife. The saw is amazing. Why isn't it for outdoors people?
  21. No one has mentioned Victorinox yet, so I put in a word for it. I have used one of their heavier models all my knife owning life and it hasn't left me wanting anything else. That new Leatherman Charge looks cool though.
