  1. That is a noble idea. However, I did a search of the cache's within 20 miles and none have been found since the end of November. That includes the 1/1's. Considering Fairbanks, Alaska this time of year even the cache owner may have trouble locating this bug.
  2. My first TB, Give Me Liberty, was assigned to go to all lower 48 states. So here's the first move it made: 10/23/2004 *** retrieved it from Marie & the Trail of the Pioneers "Liberty realized that there are more than 48 states and has decided to try and catch all 50... North to Alaska!" So, to Alaska it went.. and in Alaska it stays. "November 11 by *** (34 found) This one was pretty hard to find in the snow, but managed after a few minutes of searching." Now buried in the snow until spring my TB is chilling out, nowhere close to achieving its goal. Is this the worst move in the history of geocaching? What's yours?
  3. Yes, indeed. I googled it and all that came up was street atlas handheld.
  4. When you purchase handheld software you expect it to run on your HANDHELD. No where on the product description does it say you need another program to access street maps. No, it says clearly "create address-to-address routes directly on your PDA." I tried for an hour to get maps installed on my pda then read this small blurb tucked away in the help file: "You must have Street Atlas USA® Handheld Pro (available separately from DeLorme) to view Street Atlas USA 2004 Handheld maps on your handheld device." Great, so I have half the program I wanted. What is this program, Handheld Pro, and why can I not find it anywhere?
  5. I'm looking into purchasing the new Street Atlas 2005 for my palm. I'm currently using a handspring visor w/ magellan companion gpsr. Currenlty I have no mapping software. I tried mapopolis but find that it doesn't work w/geocaching on palm OS 3.5. Would Street Atlas be a better alternative? Easy to download gc.com waypoints? Thanks.
  6. That's exactly how I raised money for my gps. Well, almost. I'm a janitor and I saved every can I found. Bought a Magellan Companion on ebay for $65. I also got a digital camera with the money from can deposits.
  7. Cachemate runs flawlessly on my Handspring Edge. In fact a bought another just to devote to geocaching. Even so, it doesn't take long to fill 8 mb!
  8. This is from the readme file for Map. Export: "MapopolisExport 1.0 Mapopolis export plugin for CacheMate This plugin allows exporting of waypoints to Mapopolis for Palm OS 5.0 and later" I was successful in renaming the .mlp to .pdb and it hot-synced to my palm. I could even detect the file in my directory. But no where did it show up in mapopolis. Back to square 1! Thanks for checking though. It looks like I'll have to invest in new hardware in order to geocache w/maps. I may look into getting Street Atlas down the road.
  9. I just used gpxtomaplet to convert a gpx to maplet file for mapopolis. Does anyone know how to upload an .mlp file to my pda? Am I missing a conversion program or something? Thanks.
  10. Allow me to answer that for you. It works up to the point where you tell Mapopolis you would like to find the cache. It doesn't appear to recognize the coordinates from address book. It tells you "please enter a valid address." I would entertain any ideas to get around this. You say maplets may be the answer. How so?
  11. I'd be interested to know how this works. I must say though.. exporting directly to the mapping software from cachemate sounds great. It can't get much simpler than that.
  12. Any ideas for those of us that cannot run palm OS 5.0? Right now I'm running 3.5 on my Handspring.
