  1. I've found my rechargables get somewhat hot too, but not that fast. I've never had them get so hot as to burn fingers though. Sounds a bit odd. I'd check with manufacturer, either via phone or at the FAW section at their site.... William [/img]

  6. If the authorities got the info from Jeremy via subpoena, thats one thing, totally legit. If not, it makes ya wonder just how they did ID him. Thats where the privacy comes in. What methods did they use and were they completely legal? Theres been no indication they'[ve contacted Jeremy, and the diea that he put contact info inside the cache isn't likely or even plausable since they blew it up. I'm betting it was thru his personal website. That information isnt hard to obtain at all. 7. This discussion inspired me to check out whats available for Palm. Found this one here. Seems pretty neat NEW COMMENTS: I'm mistaken, it's not pretty neat. It ROCKS! After a few stutters getting started it works perfectly. Everything including logs, description, coordinates, EVERYTHING gets transformed into a memo. One button and the program does it all. I can't recommend it enough. Caching with a 5 year old: takes 2x as long, it's 2x as satisifying The faster you go, the worse your reception is. 8. Who is approaching whom? What are they charging? Is anyone taking? Who gets credit for the place? Please, oh please, provide some info!!!! Have any proof? William Caching with a 5 year old: takes 2x as long, it's 2x as satisifying The faster you go, the worse your reception is.
  9. to pray on those who aren't... I dont have an a link to the ad but i used to receive this goofy magazine of weird items and one was for a "cell phone just for 911" it had no keys or buttons save this giant 1 inch wide red button marked "911". The phoen cost $49.99 (or more, I can't exactly recall). I shook my head sadly when i saw this ad, I even sent it to Consumer Reports for their "selling it" feature on their back page.... Yes, as everyone else has said, you can use old phones as described. Its actually a good diea under the circumstances... 10. It certainly sounds commercial. The picture makes it look commercial. If it quacks like a duck, walks like a duck, then.... Even if wasn't it certainly doesnt seem to have any originality or anything special to it. I just archived my White Manna cache because I can see the handwriting on the wall. At least this one has some cultural & hisatorical signifigance, not to mention unusual architecture. Even so, it was technically commercial so I voluntarily archived it. 11. Use the temporarily archive button. you yourself can un-archive it. if you just used the archive feature, onlyu admin can unarchive it. give them an email asking for it to be reopened. 13. I have placed a few virtuals while on vacation, but if you're gonna place a real one, then scout out local cachers, ask someone in advance if they'll play step-parent to your cache before going. that way it can be cared for. and triple check your coordinates before releasing the cache. I like sucrets tins or small containers with screw tops, like you find at the container store (I just picked some up, they're very cool.) 14. As someone else said, there are books on the subject. Unless there is something special about coffee table books that makes them a special catagory.... I think its a totally valid cache under the current rules. I think only going for the current record holder would be way too limiting, plus how would one necesarily even find out what is the current holder? on the other hand I wouldn't have a clue how to ascertain past record holders either. That to me is the fun of the locationless cache. Too bad too many lame ideas made it past the screening process and everybody got all up in arms about it. disclaimer: I'm as guilty as anyone else in that respect, having submitted several that in retrospect i realize were just plain stupid. On the other hand, they did fit into the concept of locationless caches at the time...

  16. we recently had a place open called "the container store". Unfortunately they didnt have too many containers good for geocaching untilll.... I saw some hot pepper shakers. you know, the kind you see on the table at the pizza place? It was sloid plastic, had a screwtop lid, and I sealed the holes & the flipm top with hot glue. My big concern is keeping a container sealed, so screw tops rank high on my list of containers. Seems to be pretty decent as a cache container, I'm planning to use them in a new series of hunts I'm placing next month. ************************** Caching with a 5 year old: takes 2x as long, it's 2x as satisifying ************************** The faster you go, the worse your reception is.
  17. I was considering creating this cache, but have been alternately enthused or pesimistic about it to the point I can't decide what to do. (it primarily depended on my mood prior to thinking about it, which didn't help) Concept: a coupon cache. We're not talking Huggies or Bisquik coupons but GOOD ones. Minimum requirements would be either to be of at least $3-5 in value (havent quite decided on the minimum) with a preference towards stores & restaurants. I mean a 15% off coupon at Staples could save me easy $10-20. But what if I have no need to go to Staples? I'm sure we've all received really good coupon that was of no use to us. A big thing I was thinking about would be that would be a great place to drop off all those coupons from the Entertainment book that we won't use... I was thinking of possibly keeping a log in the description of the current coupons in it, as a way to entice people to revisit. Any secondary visits though would only be able to be counted as notes, not logs. If people cooperate and tell me the expiration date I can even keep it totally up to date. Possible problems: * expiration dates * you technically not supposed to trade Enterainment Coupons, or say so their book in the fine print. Like I care. But some people might) * Could this be considered a commercial cache? I don't think so, but then again, that's why I'm asking in this forum. I dunno... is this just a goofy-*** concept or does it have merit? I would make sure it's in a park central to my area that would be a 1/1 or 1/1.5 difficulty.... Tell me what ya think folks... If responses are favorable (especially from the local cachers, you know who you are) then I mgiht jsut follow thru with this... ************************** Caching with a 5 year old: takes 2x as long, it's 2x as satisifying ************************** The faster you go, the worse your reception is.
  18. What happens when a cache is found to be located in a place where illegal activity is regularly occuring? That's the quandry I faced when I sought Hackensack Green Acres, and the Hackensack Sanctuary Cache. Both are located in a rarely used, but interesting (from an ecological POV) park along the Hackensack River. You can read my log for the full details, but basically after seeking these caches it came to my attention that this park is frequently used by gay men to hook up. Furthermore they engage in sex right in the park out in the open. I found myself followed while seeking the cache. I found newspaper articles confirming that in the summer of 2001 there were numerous raids of the park by police. Then there was this article all about how the park was a cool place to cruise for gay guys. I noted all this in my log & tried not think about it any more. Then this week this article confirmed that the problem has not gone away as 15 more men were arrested. This is troubling on several levels. Many people cache with children. Would you want to expose them to ANY sexual activity, be it hetro or homo? I wouldn't. Furthermore the undercover officers were approached by numerous men asking for or offering sex. I can to cache not get propositioned repeatedly. Here's the question: Should this cache be archived? Some of the logs subsequent to mine have noticed unusual activity, most have not. What do you think? I haven't contacted the owner because regardless of his decision I am curious what other people think, not just him. Has anyone ever experienced anything like this in any other cache hunts? If so, what, if anything, was done? ****************************** Caching with a 5 year old: takes 2x as long, but its 2x as satisifying (or aggrevating depending on your POV) ****************************** The faster you go, the worse your reception is. 19. It's ironic that I was watching this discussion this week. I visited a place where I have a cache hiden, not to check the cache but because I wanted pictures of the area it was in. I figured might as well check the cache. Found the cache had gotten water in it, so I figured I'd come back with some ziplocs & bag everything. When I came back I discovered I somehow missed the hole in the top. (I'm blind obviously) I had just earlier that day remember that there was a surplus military store near me (S-4 in Hackensack, NJ) They had the 3 inch cannisters for $5 & 6 inch for $6. bought 3. I went back to my car & replaced the cache container. I will NEVER go for the cheap container ever again. I personally like anything with a screw top container, Peanut buttle jars and jelly jars make for excellent (if someone small) containers...
