  1. Yes! I fogot to mention the Kootney Pirates and the Benchmark(survey marker) coin. Both of these are absolute beauties.
  2. IF a separate thread for Micro caches is created, may I suggest that it is in really small font and hard to find? Also, I think a separate thread for nanos and the newest cache-type grain-o's (size of a seed or smaller) should follow.......
  3. Inline answers just to be perfectly clear: I want to qualify my statement. I didn't mean to say you are wrong, just incorrect. Do you think they are "leaving out" or "unable to include"? LFD: Don't know Do you think this is a contest for fun or money? LFD: Fun. Odds of winning are pretty low -- so fun.
  4. Ah! Silly me. Allow me to qualify. I don't really care about the contest aspect of the whole thing. I care about the fun of a communal Travel Bug item that cachers the world over can enjoy moving from cache to cache. As for exclusion of Alaska and Hawaii and the reasons for that exclusion -- the best recorse might be to contact Jeep customer service rather than make assumptions as to why they excluded these states. Personally, I know they excluded the area where I live because they are afraid of us...
  5. Hmmmm..... I think I should create some "Feeps" (Fake Jeeps) and send them to everywhere in the world! (except the continental US, of course)
  6. Nope. Wrong again. Oh no ..... not AGAIN! Fine.....I'll have to kill the pony that I sent you and then you'll be stuck beating a dead horse.
  7. The closest caches to me are my own -- and I ussually can find them real quick. So if it means that I am moving a Travel Bug, I will often grab or drop Travel Bugs from my own caches. In fact, I normally post in our local forums when I am going on a business trip and have locals drop any bugs that need help into one of my nearby caches so I can take them along. Which lead to an interesting conversation with a San Diego police officer once.....another time, another time.....
  8. Actually, that raises an interesting point. How many people care about the contest? How many people just care about logging a cool Travel Bug? Personally, there is no chance they are ever going to include my area in the contest, eh. So I just want to see and log the neat little toy. Why? That's between me and my therapist.
  9. They leave a lot of places out of the contest -- even places where they sell real Jeeps! The nice thing about this crazy hobby is that eventually the Jeeps make their way all over the world! (slowly in some cases, but I think that they eventually do) It's sort of like the contest where they gave each and every Canadian $100,000 as a bonus -- we're not supposed to tell the rest of the world because they're afraid everyone will want a pony.
  10. I don't care if people trade IN junk .....as long as they trade FOR junk. What irks me is when someone trades a fake AMEX card for a cool compass or coin. After all, if they are out for a tranquil walk and not a quasi shopping trip -- why trade at all. Cache degredation occurs when bad is traded for good. Hence the motto: "Trade fair: trade even/trade up or don't trade at all" I'm definately a "it's the journey, not the destination" type of cacher and really just cache as an excuse to visit new places, so trading is not an aspect of the game that draws me in as much as the walk. I do like geocoins and tokens. I also like moving and launching Travel Bugs....to each their own. Personally, I very rarely take anything from a cache. If there is a little Hotwheel car (clean/new) or some sort of little girls bead kit -- then my kids get it and I trade in something of greater value. If I enjoyed the cache (which I most often do) then I put in something good (new toys etc), but take nothing out. I agree with the sentiment that you shouldn't have to buy $2-$5 items and place them in the next 500 caches you find. That would be expensive. So don't trade. Or, if you really must trade, then only trade for items that are like those you choose to place yourself.
  11. This is about the most obvious reason to delete a log I have ever seen. If it's muggled (or meggled) or in any way not there - then finding it is impossible is it not? Sheesh... what's next: "I'm logging every caching in North America, because I am in North America - so really I was there" In this case, it's even WORSE -- the cache WAS there. Either way -- it's not a find at all.
  12. Well....considering where you live, there's a good likelyhood that you may find one someday. I'm probably not going to be out that way this summer, but if there was a cache in Jordan River next Spring/Summer there's a good chance it would attract dogs......
  13. Okay -- this is my bad -- I'm cross-posting. Us Canadians cannot request a Jeep via the form (US only - and not even Alaska or Hawaii). So..... I will be in Boston the week of the 9th-14th. If anyone has a Jeep they would allow/like to travel to Calgary, Alberta please let me know. Trust me -- it goes in a cache the day after I arrive home. This is how our area was able to get a White Jeep last year (a very nice cacher in Minniapolis helped me out last year). Our community is pretty active (and a strangely large proportion have Jeeps -- the real ones, come to think of it) Anyhow -- long shot, but let me know if you can help out us northern folks.
  14. Hello all, Looks like the Jeeps are being sent out to folks requesting them via a form off the website -- as long as you live in the US. IF anyone would like to see a Jeep travel north, I will be in Boston on the 9th-14th and can bring one up to Canada (Calgary, Alberta) -- where it will be placed in a cache very, very quickly. We have a pretty active caching community in the area and I am sure that it will see plenty of logs and movement. (and we can't even enter the contest) Last year, I was fortunate enough to meet a cacher in Minniapolis that passed along a white Jeep for this journey -- it's still travelling!
  15. I've actually been thinking of taking a scan of every real coin I release. If, and only if, the coin goes missing, I would release the "Ghost" coin. eg. LFD's Travelling UK Coin <stolen> LFD's Travelling UK Coin (ghost) The purpose of the coin is to haunt whomever stole it in the first place and also to make it known to as many cachers as possible that XYZ coin was stolen. The biggest thing for me is to destroy ALL resale and trade value of any coin released. This way, it may still get stolen, but it will likely never be resold, traded, or even shown to other cachers. "hey....why is that coin got a scratch on it?" Truth is -- once you let it go....you really have to let it go.....
  16. Yes indeed! This is something I posted awhile ago -- it really worked out well -- I met a very nice cacher named Joel in Minniapolois (ew....I think I just butchered the spelling). I was able to grab a cool coin trade and even was able to get a white Jeep to bring back to Canada! (which lives in the convoy "Guardian of the Jeeps" Anyhow. I am in Boston from the 9th to the 14th (effectively 10-13) for a Microsoft Convention. Anyone?
  17. Gutten Tag Franz! I will send you some coins for sure! I have several coins that are on a mission to visit the Heidelberg Castle -- maybe you can help them?
  18. The new prices are mostly due to a classification change I think? Previously, you could send geocoins as a "letter" as long as they fit through a little letter measure tool (ie 1-5 coins) -- now they are a "package" and hence the higher rate and slower time (packages are a ground shipment, letters are all first class and air-shipped). In fact, I suspect that if you were sending just one or two coins, they would end-up getting thrown in with the letters anyways and go air. The time to arrive is hit and miss depending on volumes etc.
  19. Perfect! I think I see it there. I totally agree that spreading them out is the way to go. I also think vacations are important! Thanks again for letting us help a fellow cacher. Although I have never met her, Ladycacher was one of the first cachers I ever traded coins with and I wish her a speedy recovery and good health.
  20. Hello all. I'll be in Boston sometime in the next 15 days and I plan on dropping some coins into caches. There will be some for travel (trackable/activated), but I will also be dropping one of my few remaining Geobones and some of my LFD CAC tokens (both non-trackable and, hence trade items). It also looks like I'll be travelling in November, but that's later. Good luck!
  21. Any new updates on coins recieved. I'm asking because I sent some down via ExpressPost and if you don't have them I'll need to do a trace on the package. (not that that helps if they are lost) I hope all is well with Ladycacher. It's sad that she had to let her collection go -- but I hope that it was able to help her and her family!
  22. Okay -- I didn't realize the ROT13 and Benchmark were so sought after. I had 4 of each through my subscription and placed 2 of each into caches and am doing something else with the 1 extra of each that are still around (so no PM's please !). They sure are nice coins though. I think the Benchmark is in my top 5 all-time favourite coins.
  23. I was thinking that one of the coins that is really hard to find must be the Moun10Bike Christmas coin. I've heard of it and never seen it. From what I understand it was sent to some of his caching friends -- so it is not a cache item and would never be sold on eBay (at least I would hope not!).
  24. Gaaa! I just placed my extras for sale elsewhere and saw that they were being sold through the store. Do you have to be a member to buy? I stopped my subscription as I was getting buried in coins!
  25. The Greenman coin is non-trackable -- so it's really from a differnt era in the whole "coin craze". I would be surprized if someone took one of my non-trackable coins and moved it into another cache. Of course, I guess I wouldn't even know about it if they did..... This is actually one of the problems in the whole coin thing. There are three general varieties! Each of which has different "rules" - so it gets confusing for some finders. 1) Token/Coin -- non-trackable. Keep it, cache it, but trade fair? 2) Coin -- GC Trackable. Move from cache to cache and watch it's journies on GC.com 3) Coin -- Trackable elsewhere. Move from cache to cache and track it at someothersite.com Then, of course, there are the UNACTIVATED coins that are left as FTF prizes, etc. This is one reason I decided to create the original Geobone with a loop to attach a TB tag to. It makes it very clear which ones are to travel. Of course, it also means I pay for a TB tag rather than just the number like I would on a coin. My thought is that the statement "Trackable at www.geocaching.com" will strike some people as a suggestion, not a "rule". Maybe coins should state "This coin must be tracked at www.geocaching.com -- NOW!" I think that "Track this coin at ...." is a bit stronger. Any ideas?
