  1. 1. Not sure, haven't had a chance to figure it out. 2. I would not pay ANY amout of money. The coin pages say they are not to be sold, so I wouldn't buy one. The exception of course would be one that Moun10bike donated to be sold to raise money for a worthy cause. Yipes! You're right. I can't buy one now. Above all else, I think it is important to respect the wishes of the person the created/placed/traded the coin. So, as the cache page states that the coin cannot be sold, I cannot buy. Which actually makes trading one suspect (after all, if I am willing to trade 1500 $1 coins -- isn't that the same as buying?) I stick by my original theory -- the chances of evern having the opportunity to be faced with a trade decision is not likely to happen. Not just on this coin, but on several dozen others. They cannot be found for love or money.
  2. I'm okay with this method -- however, there has been much discussion on it and some folks are less accepting of the practice. To try and make everyone happy, if I did this - I would indicate in the coin name that it was a COPY of XYZ coin. That means when it shows up on the cache listings, it will display a coin icon, but the name will clearly indicate it is a copy. Ultimately though, I doubt I would ever do this. For me, the thrill is to leave and watch a real coin travel. So I deface them a little and enjoy them when/while they travel. In the end, I have decided against releasing coins as travellers that I care about. I know that they have a theft factor that far exceeds a traditional travel bug. When I release a travelling coin, I assume about 10 hops before theft. Sometimes I am disapointed, sometimes I am happy.
  3. You know. People are greedy and people are sad. However, I honestly believe that this is the MINORITY of people. I think that for every 50 great cachers that move, enjoy, and otherwise play the game correctly -- there is ONE that is a thief, a fool, a %%^)%)@!. Sadly, the ONE ruins it. This is not new to geocaching. A coin goes missing when ONE cacher steals it. It requires DOZENS of cachers to move it along. So let's all celebrate the many and pity the few! (last part was said in my best Mr.T voice)
  4. I know I would appreciate one if I ever came across one! In fact, knowing that I never will have one is truely painful.....thank goodness I have one of your shotglasses to drink myself into a geocaching oblivion.... as I drift into unconciousness.....realizing I will never have a Moun10Bike, a John Lacey, a Kealia.... My coins were also for trade-only, however some have made it to eBay for charity -- and I sold 4 of them myself to support the purchase of a couple coins that nobody would trade for. Anyhow .. bad me... off topic.
  5. I'd be in for a trade (or I would buy a couple) as this is close to "home"
  6. Both my Geobones and my Red-Handed coins were produced by Coins and Pins. I have nothing but positive -- nay -- EXTREMELY positive things to say about them. They produce "heavier", more solid coins that have real coin "feel' to them. I think this is because of the thickness and the metal they use. I just am a big, big fan of their quality.
  7. It's been awhile, but it looks as if my geobones go for $35-$50 and my Red-Handed coins go for about $25. They are both coins that were released pre-boom (Geobone was summer 2005, Red-handed was Sept/Oct 2005).
  8. I like the fact that the coins are all activated by Moun10Bike. In my case, I traded with him for the v2 and v3 that I have with me. It's cool to have traded with one of the "founders" of this hobby. For myself, there are a few cachers that I really like to have personal coins from. For example, my Nicolo coin (OP here) is every bit as valuable as any of my Moun10Bike coins. (no... I am not trading away either) To the original post: I think that in a pool of 100 coins, there is probably about a 1-3 percent movement of coins per year at this point (I think most have found "homes" in perminent collections). In a given year, I think 1 coin will enter the market -- and I suspect it will no longer be in a trade. At this point, it will enter the market when someone decides to liquidate their collection and does so either silently amongst fellow collectors and/or through an auction site (less likely). So either a private cash sale, or some other arrangement. The truth is that there is really probably about 20-50 people that are willing to spend BIG to get a Moun10Bike coin. There are hundreds that want one. The demand is so high at this point, that the chances of one going for less than $700-$1500 are pretty unlikely. The chances of getting one in a trade are even more remote. Any "collector" would not be likely to give up the crown jewel for a bunch of coins -- even dozens. So it has to be someone that is stopping collecting and/or someone that has one and has never been or become a collector. (early cachers in the region of Moun10Bike) The only chance I see of getting one in trade would be if someone had one, wanted to get the cash, didn't want to be seen as selling it on the auction site. They might trade for 100 coins or so and then sell those at $15-$30 to get the value they wanted for the v1. Not to highjack a thread, but I would ask the quesition: 1) how many coins would you trade for a v1? 2) how much would you pay for a v1? Personally, I guess I would trade most of my trader coins (40-60) and pay up to about $750. I don't think I would stand a chance.
  9. Thanks for the advice! I did indeed decide to drop into an archived cache rather than adopt them all out. However, I think that it may not work for what I want..... While it does take them out of my inventory, it does not take them off my Travel Bug page. So they remain all mixed in with the rest of the Travel Bugs (you know, the ones that are actually travelling Then, when I do a sort on my Travel Bugs to see which ones haven't moved in awhile, they "mix" into the lot. I have pre-fixed all the "keeper" coins with "COIN: XYZ" so that makes it easy to see which is a real traveller and which is a collection keeper..... Man... this is a lot of work!
  10. Thanks! I made the mistake of trying to browse for it and not do a search (silly me). It's a bit of a process to do this, but I think it will be nice to "give" my son an early inheritance My daughter will get all the version 2 geobones (assuming I make them trackable - I can't decide)
  11. It's not fake -- it's my son's account. However, I cannot seem to figure out how to adopt them to someone else. So maybe I am stuck with them in my account (I don't want to cause anyone any work if the adoption has to be done manually)
  12. Sort of With all my legitimate releases and my Travel Bugs - the coins in my "keeper" collection make my Travel Bug page difficult to sort through. So I have decided to "adopt" all my keeper tracables to my kids accounts. This way, my own Travel Bug page will be just travelling items. Anyone else do this?
  13. Strangely....I think I might have a coin with 360 on it coming out soon....
  14. I'm from BC originally (30 years) -- so don't be surprized if one shows up in Vancouver, Whistler, or the island.
  15. Hello there, Each person is certainly welcome to create their own text! yipes -- I don't want to be seen a "Feep" dicatator! I have created all mine the same way to make searches easier for folks. You can go to the Travel Bug section of the website, select Advanced Search (above the activate button) and type in FEEP -- you will get several hits and see how I described them. The first Feep was placed in a cache a couple of hours ago.
  16. HAHA! Great! -- now the "Feeps" will be rarer than the "Jeeps" So far, I have had a few folks either launch their own and/or send me ones to lauch in addition to the ones I have launched. However, the ratio of "feep" to "jeep" is 5000:32 yipes! Here's a photo of "Feep" #1:Hudson
  17. Does anyone in the world have two? Anyone that has one is likely a pretty serious geocacher -- so there is a very low chance that they would part with it. If anyone has an extra, I would venture that the going rate is probably at over 100 coins and/or $800-$1500. Personally, I would *like* a Moun10Bike V1 coin, but at this point actually don't really want one unless it comes from Moun10Bike himself (like my V2 and V3). Somehow it just wouldn't have as much meaning to me personally if I had to buy it or trade crazy for it. He's out -- so that's just not going to happen. When I first started collecting coins (Aug 2005), I wanted to trade for one. Now? It's just too crazy. The *cost* would defeat the purpose.
  18. If you carefully hold the "Feep" sideways, you can let the chain fall along the rear axle. It goes in the gap on each side of the back wheels.
  19. In a bizarre twist -- I recently had a cache that had about 20 metal and 30 wooden nickles in it. About 16 of the metal coins were stolen, but all the wooden ones were left -- including BOTH versions of the Moun10Bike wooden nickles!
  20. Yes, -- so far there are only three Feeps in the world, but in a couple weeks we;ll have all of the ones I am launching, the ones Welch gratiously supplied (Welch and Madelaine) and any others that folks decide to launch on their own.
  21. Sure! Why not? Just follow these simple guidelines: 1) Make sure the name of the bug starts with "Feep": <name> 2) Let me know you have released them so I can make sure to search for "Feep" during my random, non-scheduled, unscientific, unofficial, good-will, having fun contest drawings. (try it today! -- go to Travel Bugs, select "advanced Search" and search by keyword "Feep" (don't use the quotes)
  22. I'm really happy that folks are passionate on this subject and there has been such lively discussion. To calm things down.... when you get the chance, read the cache page. Have a look at everything that happened up intil the coins were taken. Isn't this hobby cool? Folks got a good hike, they saw a nice view. People saw some coins in the wild. Sure. The coins went away -- boo hoo. I'm going to live. What's really cool is that there were dozens of logs before this -- and check out the most recent find! Coins or no coins -- folks like this location and this cache. Everything is okay -- I started this thread to actually let people know just how SUCCESSFUL this cache was. Sure - it would have been great to see it last longer. It didn't. I'll create a new way to put coins in the wild and discourage people from taking them - (see any one of 100 other threads on this) Bottom line: This cache was FUN. This cache IS fun. This cache will REMAIN fun. If someone spits on the cache, I'll just wipe it clean. MOST people do the right thing.
  23. Read the cache log. Then you'll know why I created the cache and all the fun it brought to folks. Please, don't feel sorry for me -- Im really, really okay.
  24. Quick apology! I noticed our Flying Spagetti Monster had to edit the post in which I used the name I was called -- I shouldn't have used the bad word....sorry plate-o-hovering-pasta.
