  1. Hey all... The race site is in the process of being built. D-bob will keep me up to date with the name and chosen race image when he gets the chance and I will try and keep it up to date. Please remember to send him your name if you are going to be taking part. Come on guys lets get lots of people in this race! Tell your friends! Check out the site at 2008 TB race
  2. Sounds like a lot of work!!! Lets hope your free time lasts the entire year. With regard to leaving the country: Noddy has had a separate race running for the last two years where bugs had to start in the UK visit a second continent and return home.... They are yet to return. DBob, let me know when the rules and finalised and I will put together the race page that you can administer.
  3. Really..... never quite noticed that ..... Ooooh... sound interesting and like a lot of work.... THANKS for offering DBob!
  4. South African 2007 Travel Bug Race There could only be one Greetings hungry Race bug owners and other interested people, To honour the effort that you put in, the kilometres that you travelled, the thorn trees that ripped your skin, the wives (and possible husbands) that wont speak to you anymore, the government tax coffers that you filled and many other things I have given the winners announcement its own thread here in the SA forum. Here I hope to list the final standings, point interested folk to the relevant race web pages, talk a little on the happenings of the race and keep your interests from work for a few minutes. Firstly thank you to all who participated, to the 20 race bug owners I hope you had fun. I hope you enjoyed watching your bug’s travels. Talking about travelling, would you believe that our small little bugs have travelled a massive 135,817 km during the duration of the race. 89 cachers have helped them do this and I thank each of them now (alphabetical order) Amyson, anlufu, barking mad, batdude1, batsgonemad and his squirrel, battlerat and pussycat, bosveldklong, Brick, Bushpigs, Cabey, cache-fan, cownchicken, dakardrix, DamhuisClan, Dampies, deon_engel, DiePienaars, Discombob, Donkasand, Ducky and Mucky, eragonSaphira, Fish Eagle, Gee Spot, Gen.Rick, Geo Stapo, GeoPoppit, Gerald, GlobalRat, Goofster, Gps Storm, GPSMouse, GreenJaM, Guineafowl, Hendre69, iNokia, iPajero, itchyknee, Jakkals en Eendjie, johannengelbrecht, JohnMcF, Jors, katundu, Klebe, Krazong, Kwenda Tafuta, landy 2001, landy 247, Larks, LeonW, Littleclan, Looney Larkman, Megaben, minister85, Neville Bailey, nic777, Nish4, Noddy, QFC, radebuddyz, RedGlobe, Rhino and Hedgehog, River God, ShambleRamble, Sippy Dippy, streides, taeros, Tanktrax, Team Katsie, Team_Farmers, Team_Olo, TeamTGF, TerraTiger, The Dobies, the pooks, The Sunrise Crew, Tim&Brig, Tiny Bubbles, TinyTigger, Tom&sons, Trackinfind, Tricky Vicky & Mickey, Urban Hunters, vespax, warthog, Wazat, whatknots, Whostops, Wildbirds, Ysbeer. Some cachers helped more than was expected and I have to make mention of the “usual” suspects for keeping the Cape’s name up in lights; Tricky Vicky & Mickey and cownchicken managed to move certain bugs… A LOT! (the cape conspiracy has been turned on it’s head) Thank you for a wonderful effort. 4 bugs managed to finish the race, with 4 others being lost along the way. So now to get you and me back to work the winner of the race was Rupert Rex who is owned by Tricky Vicky & Mickey. Second place goes to Die Rooi Gevaar (cownchicken), third to Frustrated 4*4 (warthog) and forth goes to James' leaping lizard (colinaly). Will the owners please pass their postal addresses to Noddy via GC mail so we can arrange to hand out the prizes. For the final standings and calculations document got to www.geocachingranking.com/Tracking/tbrace2007.aspx and www.geocachingranking.com/Tracking/ 2007RaceBugs.xls respectively. But this is not the end……. What about 2008. Should we pass the torch back to the Cape? Should we race with coins? What it the plan? I offer www.geocachingranking.com to track the progress of the race (I will write the site, someone else can data capture ) There could only be one.... or four???
  5. Sorry guys the first day of work was a duzy! I have made a fresh new thread to honour our brave travel bugs who have managed not to be chopped.
  6. Yup an update is available!!! 3 bugs have finished alread and 3 are still racing. Updates are available at 2007 TB Race. There is also a excel document with all of the calculations if any of the owners want to check out their bug's progress... Race Bugs The next update will crown the winner and send out awards. This will unfortunately only happen on the 2nd of Jan 2008.
  7. Yup.... Once again it seems like the stats are broken. I have had no leave this christmas period and do not have an internet connection at home so working on the site has been a bit of a problem. I will be looking at it in the new year. For the moment, THANKS for all the support... the mails just keep on flying in faster than my GPRS connection can fetch them Please hold on tight..... we will get there....
  8. Hmm.... Ja that would be a cool number to have! # km's traveled/ 500 km per tank * 50 l per tank * (current cost of petrol) = cost of caching We do not keep such data to be able to show the above and would have to get cachers to recapture caches in our system to be able to do this and obviously we dont want to do this. Try to capture this in the general forum, I think there is a section there for changes to Geocaching.com.
  9. hmmm... this is not always a good thing Fast may mean that it is not working. We are running off a very cheap server so we have to keep in mind that you get what you pay for Maybe when we make money we can move to a snappy (quick SA server) Glad to hear that you are happy.
  10. Hmm.... good point. A year and a bit ago when we wrote the site there was not too much dead weight, but now that theres is we will have to look into catering for it. Thanks for this! You can surf the pictures that have been submitted, but only on a per cache basis. Click on a cacher (any cacher).... Under the Profile section of the menu you can now selected [cacher]'s image gallery and browse all of the photos that have been submitted by a cacher. Though we will be adding a section to browse all of the photos.
  11. Wouldn't this be more irritating? I guess we would have to have the log in functionality working then. Thanks for the insight!
  12. Hey Neville, Got your mail... It is stacked in the mailbox with others that are willing to help. Once we complete the site upgrade (early 2008) we will go on a recruitment drive to find administrators that can help maintain cachers and pass on info about the site. Thanks for the message.
  13. Thanks guys... Maybe a bit of a harsh response on my behalf ... but please remember as much as you are passionate to show how well you are doing (Congrats TVM on 1400+ ) we (mostly me) are still doing this for "fun" and in my (lack of) spare time. The last time I went caching is a month ago........ Work on the site has been stealing a little too much work time lately and I like you wish its stats would just update properly and run quickly. Please send mails if the stats are broken or you need to be added. Someone will get them... (and you will get a reply, all be it a month late sometimes) now..... Anyone got suggestions
  14. Please not that this is not intended as a "this is not working thread"!!!! If I could I would delete all of these posts, but I can't. Please keep your posts to suggestions for the site. Complains of not working stats will not be of any use to us! Thanks * this site is a work of "passion" and free time: continually being b1tched at does not inspire passion*
  15. Love or hate it, the ranking site is here to stay... but after our second birthday we are willing to hear your suggestions. On again the programmers are looking for something to play with and would like to better the site. We hope to let it catch up with the times reach a state that will may you happy, us happy, the hippos and little green men happy and willing to stay and play with the site longer. Please use this page to post suggestions on how we can make the site better. How can we increase the community spirit of it. Let us know! Thanks Q, F and C
  16. "Its Alive!" cries of Henry Frankenstein It looks like the site is once again health. Please make use of the update stats link at the bottom of the home page to update that stats once every 8 hours. Have fun all. p.s. I will be adding all of the people that have requested to be added in the next day. If you are not up by the end of the week please mail us.
  17. The stats have been updated, but are not working properly.... Just yet. For the moment I am updating them manually. Enjoy!
  18. Wow! Those look quite hectic. Please post here as planning progresses since it seems like something I may want to do (just need to find stronger legs and more nerves).
  19. Currently with the state of my lodging (or lack there of) re-assembling my PC is a mamoth task. Had family from France over this weekend, but maybe I can squeeze some time in to find the screen one of these days. Hold on guys... And while the ranking is down, why not enjoy the smaller parts of the site.... Update your profiles, check out some of the pics.... Take part in the TB race!
  20. Sigh.... More caches in the middle of nowhere.... Lets hope that you do not publish them and clean them out after the event; we dont want geo-litter. "Rally geocaching" is fun and all, but I don't think caches from these event should be logged or published. Isnt one of the rule of an event that cachers should not get together to find caches??? This sounds better. Will see if I can rope in some others and maybe join for one of your lekker lunches. (the food at the last event was unexpected and Great!)
  21. October Update 2 Months Left! Congrats to all that have got this far, but as usual some must go for others to win. We say goodbye to Half Bait and Baiesukkel and congradulate the owners on getting this far. But there can be only one and you have been CHOPPED! As time passes we urge all SA cachers to help the bugs that are out there! Get involved. Maybe you will need help next year for your bug. There is little time left in the race... Stay tuned for some possible upsets!!!!
  22. What is the plan for this event? Are we just getting together for a chilled brunch? That sounds like fun Chilled is good.

    GPS

Let us know how well it works under the trees. I am interested to see if the "H" is worth it!

    GPS

Why is it, with all the space and memory of the new GPS's they cant manage to store more than 50 characters of text in the waypoint description. On would think with mobile phones hitting the GPS market that Garmin would wake up and start mixing in some "cool" technology, heck any technology, with their oversized GPS's! Thats my rant on why I dont want to spend money on a GPS!
