  1. There is nothing in the guidlines that says this it is wrong to mail a TB to another geocacher.
  2. No. That file only tracks whether you found or did not find the cache if you log it on your Garmin.
  3. What if the FTFer posted his log in a foreign language? Would then the first person who posted in English be the REAL FTF? If so then I have a whole lot more FTFs here in Germany than I have taken credit for.
  4. My largest TB is 5'8" and weighs 190 lbs! It is ME! - http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=3564159 Hopefully this TB will be 180 soon.
  5. Remember though....before deleting ANY files on your Garmin, make a back up of everything on it. This way if you accidently delete a critical file you can also replace it. It is also good to do this after every GSP software update.
  6. IMHO GSAK is the best program for analysing Geocaching data. There are many FREE macros that will pull a lot of useful and even more not so useful info. I would wait to "PAY" for GSAK since version 8 is in BETA and all current users will have to repay in order to upgrade. You might want to look as BaseCamp also.
  7. And now....the REST of the story.... http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2011/09/white-house-we-gave-lightsquared-plenty-of-grief-over-gps.php
  8. There is no need to feel guity when a trackable you placed in a cache ends up missing. It was not your fault. All trackables will end up going missing sooner or later. There is NO perfect cache to put a trackable in.
  9. Ok. But there are also coins that fit in film captuals AND film canisters. They are called micro coins.
  10. I have picked up trackables that were dropped before logging and what I do in this situation is wait 72 hours to see see if it is logged. If it is not I send a message to to eperson holding it indicating that I plan to grab it in 48 hours if they don't log it in the cache. If I hear nothing from them I grab the trackable, log it into the cache I found it in and then log it back out.
  11. Nothing wrong with it. But it will not be easy to find caches off the road with.
  12. Well my new GPSMap62 ST is SO accurate that I am finding that even caches hidden with older GPSr's are off quite a bit.
  13. It would not hurt but be polite. There is nothing saying how long they can hold it before dropping or dipping it. I hold trackables until I find a cache that has one I can swap it for and dip it every one in between.
  14. I think the accuracy of any smartphone depends on the cell tower coverage and terrain of where you are caching. In urban areas I get pretty good accuracy but in in rural or deep woods with a lot of tall hills it can easily be 100 meters off.
  15. I used to cache with my iPhone but the accuracy can't compare to any of my three Garmins. Both the GC App and the iphone have gotten better since I began over two years ago and I am sure they will continue to improve. But I don't think any smartphone app and GPS will ever be as good as a dedicated GPSr. Last week I got my new GARMIN GPSMAP62 ST and it is SO accurate that older caches are hard to find since they were placed with older, less accurate GPSr's. In heavily wooded areas where my older Colorado 400T would get three or four bars, the new GPSMAP62 ST sticks right on 5 bars. I still use my iPhone to search for nearby caches and navigate to the cache location.
  16. Or maybe you did not know that they were doing it because you did not see it. Before Visiting was created I logged each one in and out of each cache I found which was quite time consuming. I like the new way. Maybe GS could make a setting so that you could choose to opt out of this feature for your trackables and the VISITING option would not be available for the ones you set up like that. Just like the Collectable Preference.
  17. Anyone still interested in trading??
  18. One time I was caching near a dark forest and a Sasquatch tried to kill my wife, me, and my dog. Don't believe it? Here is proof - http://coord.info/GC2GYM7 .
  19. Most people don't even write in the proper form of their own language and that is why automated translation will never work. Look at German. There so many dialects that people that live no more the 50 KM from each other sometimes have a hard time to understand each other. I have hard time understanding Americans that may have a strong drawl. The bottom line IMHO is that no translation is needed.
  20. I think that the language attribute is a great idea. But I have found caches in many EU countries with non-English descriptions and still had a great time finding them. Wasn't it at one time a requirement for Earth Caches (EC) to have an English description? I have even been asked to help some Germans translate their EC cache description to English so it would get published. The EC CO could use their own language but it also had to have English. I am finding the some of the new ECs are only in the local language.
  21. I left a FTF prize once. A nice Mini-MAG light but have never found a FTF prize in any that I have found found first. I am thinking about printing out a little FTF Certificate that the FTFer can frame. Found a cache a few weeks about and after almost ten finds the FTF prize of an old clock was still in it!
