  1. Got my GPSMap 62ST a week ago and I am extremely pleased with it. Took a while to figure it all out after using a Colorado 400T for so long but it is slowing coming.
  2. There is no problem with customs when leaving Germany. The problem is coming into Germany.
  3. How many and which geocoins will the winner get?
  4. I had never done this before. Therefore there was no files to be recovered. I logged in today and synced the phone. Saved all my data and then updated the phone. Then restored all my data back to the phone. After a few minor problems I had everything back working on the phone, but was unable to recover the deleted geocaching app. But with the update on the I phone I was able to download the new geocaching apps that was available. Apple was a big help to me on this even with me not having a tech support agreement purchased and my phone being 142 days past the date of tech assistance. Thanks for all the replys to my problem. I am glad it all worked out for you. You should make a habit of syncing your iPhone and checking for app updates at least once a week.
  5. As long as the friends/family are geocachers it would be fine for them to "grab" the trackables from you. Or if you are out caching together, you could "drop" them in a cache and they could immmediately "retrieve" them. It is not wise to give trackables to non-geocachers. I never said I would give or mail one to a non-geocacher, whether the person was family or friend.
  6. I would mark trades as gift also. But if I sold one then I would not.
  7. Yes, but when older software is no longer supported, it usually still works. The old 4.2.2 Version of geocaching for iPhone does NOT. ..
  8. Yup. Your GPS60 is very old in technology years. I have the new 62 ST and where I used to get 3 bars under trees it now stays at 5 bars. It is almost TOO accurate since most of caches are hidden with older GPSr's. I can get spot on the coordinates and most of the time find the cache from 5 - 10 meters off.
  9. You are exactly right. Don't play around with customs and never mark it as a gift. The receiver still has to pay customs on gifts. My mom used to send my mother-in-law gifts at her Germany address and I had to tell her to stop because sometimes the customs were more very high. I have an APO address so luckily my stuff stays in the US system and customs does not get involved.
  10. Why should they refund you? You are the one who has decided not to upgrade your iPhone. No company can afford to maintain older software. I wish Microsoft would refund me for all the outdated versions of their software I bought.
  11. Euro is slowly going down which makes me happy since I get paid in USD. I think the German Customs office is pretty strict. My US Army organization gets military stuff shipped over via FedEx and sometimes they even give us a hard time.
  12. I would say that it is because the Euro is so strong. But that may be changing soon.
  13. Are you logged on to your iTunes account on your computer and have you ever synced your iPhone? If you don't do that your apps will never show up in iTunes.
  14. To update your iPhone you need to connect it to iTunes. It should alutomatically detect that you have an old software version and then ask you if you want to upgrade it.
  15. It is coming an going. They must be doing some updates or maybe the server is getting overloaded.
  16. I use GSAK from GSAK.NET to create mine. I use the BadgeGen and Findstat macros.
  17. Oops....I meant the default page that shows my last 30 days of logs. It is showing up now though. I thought I might have been banned!
  18. Is anyone else having a problem viewing their profile? When I try to go to mine I get the http://www.geocaching.com/error/500.htm error telling me go back to the homepage.
  19. I also think it would be good to have something about this in the Knowledge Books. I have mailed a TB to a friend in the USA to help it out and never even considered it wrong until I read this thread. What about GIVING a trackable to a friend or family member instead of mailing it? As an American living in Germany I have family and friends that are geocachers that come over and visit. Is it wrong to give them a trackable to take back to the USA with them?
  20. Ok, I see that now. IMHO that should be put in the guidelines since the majority of people who geocache or grab trackables probably don't even read these forums.
  21. Hmmmmm...a Geocoin. I also think you should be prepared for it to go missing rather quickly. I only release travel bugs with my signaute wooden nickel on them because they are inexpensive and people don't tend to collect TBs. Someone who collects wooden nickels might keep it but they are fewer. Still many of my Wooden Nickel TBs go missing. Nothing I can do about it if it goes missing from a cache other than send a message to each person who found the cache after you dropped it in. If none of them admint to having it then there is not much more you can do other than hope that it will reappear which happens sometimes. Friend of mine got an email from a person coupla weeks ago telling them that they have one of their Geocoins. The GC had been missing for FOUR years. The cacher that picked it up died. The daughter of the dead person found it and after checking it out online found a person to put it back in a cache. So...hopefully your coin will travel millions of miles but don't get too upset if it does not.
  22. What postage rate did the sender send the package at? If they sent it Space Available Mail (SAM) it can take three months for it to arrive overseas. BTW I sent the ones we talked about to you yesterday. Coming via Germany Air Mail so hopefully you will have them by tomorrow. Monday at the latest.
