  1. Not sure whether this is related to the recent changes or not, but just noticed... My other half's Bio includes BBCode tags, but these are no longer being interpreted on the Profile page (http://www.geocaching.com/profile/?guid=2096123a-3dcd-4890-9feb-658abc36074c). Initially, there was only a tag and I wondered whether the external link was the issue, but I've added a couple of others and these aren't working either. These tags do still work on Log posts. Obviously, they can be changed in the Bio to HTML tags, but is this just a temporary glitch? Thanks, Richard
  2. Hi Bernard, Meant to talk to you about this at last night's Surrey Event, but completely forgot! Like most (I think), I'd prefer to see your long, well-crafted log, repeated however many times, to a simple 'TFTC'. However, I can see how this can be negatively perceived. I think a better compromise is to put your day's exploits in, say, the first log of the day, and a short 'cut and paste' summary (with a link back) in each of the subsequent logs. All logs should then include something specific to the cache. For the unmemorable, this may well be a simple 'TFTC'. Finally, as far as I'm concerned the main purpose of a log is for the finder to record their experience and to provide feedback (and thanks) to the CO. Of course, I do look back through previous logs for clues when I'm struggling to find a cache in the field, but that's purely secondary and should in no way dictate how anybody writes their logs. Just my two-pennyworth. Regards, Richard
  3. I found my first 800+ caches with my iPhone 3G and tbh, wouldn't have a bad thing to say about it. At Christmas I got an eTrex Legend HCx, and it's been a revelation! It doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the more expensive units, but it sure gets you to GZ with less drama than the iPhone. Later iPhones may be better, but in my experience I typically overshot a cache by 20m, then 10m past in the other direction, and so on until the blue dot eventually settled in roughly the right area. With the eTrex (and I imagine most decent GPSr's), you just count down: 20m, 10m, 5m, 4, 3, 2, 1, cache! I still use the iPhone for accessing cache description, hints, etc. and posting field notes, and the satellite photography comes in handy at times. Can't comment on the Dakota I'm afraid, but I'm now a huge fan of the eTrex. Like any new piece of kit, it will take a little getting used to, but I doubt that you'll regret it. I use free OSM maps, which are great for my normal tramping grounds, and GSAK to manage everything on the PC. You need a little techie know-how to get it all set up, but there's plenty of help out there. Good luck!
  4. I tell you, if we go via the Qattara Depression we can beat the Nazis to the FTF and still be in Alexandria before last orders! (Couldn't resist a scene from 'my own' film).
