There's also this magnetic sign for the side of your vehicle...
The original was done by another gentleman here, I'm sorry but I've forgotten his name. I did this one up for myself, although I've yet to get it actually made.
-
I use the hardhat/safety vest method. No-one seems to pay any attention to yet another guy in a pickup wearing one.
-
I have a set of 4 GMRS/FRS radios for a non-geocaching related purpose and I usually keep one in my geocaching bag just in case I need it, but I've not heard anyone on it locally.

P.S. Am I the only one who bothered to actually get the FCC license they say you need for operation on the GMRS frequencies?

How do you pull of caching w/o landing in the slammer? Especially when a cache is a challenging one requiring a LOT of poking and examination of an area?
It's amazing how much people will ignore yet another guy wearing a hardhat and a safety vest. ($10 each, Lowes) in a pickup truck working on a lamppost. I got the idea from one of the 999 similar threads here. Do a little reading and you will find tons of ideas. I especially liked the guy who carries a clipboard of phony subpoenas. Whenever he gets someone being too nosy he asks them their name, declares that it sounds familiar and hunts through his stack of papers. They usually leave quickly.

I really like the Lowrance XOG, it is a really sweet unit. If you shop around you can get it for $149.00 and it is already loaded with maps an ready to use.
Unfortunately, the screen on the XOG is far too small for my needs. Since they stopped making the 600c, Lowrance just doesn't make anything that fits my needs any more. Thanks though.

My Lowrance iWay 600c, which I like very much and has served me very well, has died and I'm in the market for a replacement with the same capabilities. (Lowrance has stopped making the iWay series) The closest I've found seems to be the Garmin Nuvi 755t.
Does anyone have any other suggestions for an equivalent replacement for the 600c?
And/Or
Any owners of the 755t want to share their opinion of it? The ability to buy a lifetime new map subscription is a tempting feature...

I have a 300cc scooter that I've used a few times caching but I don't have a mount yet for it to hold my GPS. Working on finding a mount that will work and then I'll use it more.
Ram Mounting Systems makes mounts for just about any sort of electronics. I use their mounts both in my truck and on my bike for several GPSr's.
Express Mounts carries just about all of Ram's stuff. I've ordered from them before and gotten good, fast service. (Nope, I don't work for them)

I was just wondering what all you geocachers carry with you. Thanks
Lets see... A tour through my bag...
Nylon Backpack, circa 1989
Water Bottle
Collaspable Hiking Stick - Part of my photography gear, the top unscrews to reveal a 1/4-20 camera mount.
Digital Camera
Motorola GFRS Radio (I've actually got a total of four of these for another purpose, but I keep one in the bag)
Bug Spray
Zip lock bags
Nitrol Gloves
Notebook
Pen
Sharpie Marker
Screen Protectors (Universal, cut to fit type)
Signature Items to leave in caches (Bronze Bear charms)
First Aid Kit
Emergency Rain Poncho
Compass
Mini Maglite
Delorme PN-40
Spare batteries
Some assorted geocoins and TBs
And the stuff that travels with me on a day to day basis:
Cell phone
Leatherman micro
Pocket knife
6' Tape measure
.40 S&W for non-urban areas or a compact .380 for urban areas (Hey, it's NY!)

I've got an update on this. It only seems to be a problem with a CAaR PQ. It's working on normal PQs.

-
I just tried one that worked.
Are you sure you're not selecting too many attributes?...or maybe ones that are mutually exclusive?
Nope, that's not it. I can't select any at all.
-Gryffyth
-
I'm having a different issue with the Pocket Query system than the ones I've seen mentioned. I can't seem to select any of the attributes to include or exclude. When I click on the attributes, they do not highlight and the results don't take them into account. This is happening using Firefox 3 and IE 7 and did work for me in the past. Is anyone else having this problem?

I went looking for a cache in a local public park yesterday and while there were far too many muggles around to safely look for it, I did find something else interesting. The Half Moon, a full scale replica of the ship Henry Hudson sailed up what is now called the Hudson River in 1609, was docked at the spot normally used by another wooden sailing ship, The Clearwater.
Anyone else with something interesting they found instead of (or in addition to) the cache?

I suppose I should show the rest, what we spent 4 weeks caching on recently, although the trailer was loaded a bit more than it is in the pic.
Cheers

Nice Nomad! What year? I ride an '02 1500 Classic FI myself.

I leave small (3/4") bronze grizzly bear charms as a sort of signature item.

I know there are other riders here... Is no-one from here going to Americade?

When all the satellites fall out of the sky I'm sure the workload will decrease.*
Ah, but then we'll just have to use the new super secret satellites that you have to have a Delorme PN-100 or a Garmin Nevada to to receive data from.

You could always give this one (GCB5D7). From the cache page:
"Not made for the comfort-seeking tourist, you need to get into the world's hottest desert, travel among armed Afar nomad people who are at gunpoint with the ethiopian army and master volcanic territory....the Erta Ale range remains one of the most inaccessible places on earth. There are no roads and temperatures are extremely high. The tribe living there, the Afar people, are proud and strong warriors, often hostile to foreigners....The volcano is situated at the bottom of the Danakil Depression, generally considered to be one of the most inhospitable regions on earth"
What I find really scary about this one is that there are multiple finds on it!

Any geocachers besides myself going to Americade next month? I've got myself a PQ set up for the route and another for the Lake George area and I've ordered a bike sized magnetic TB for people to look for. If there's enough of us there, maybe we can do some group hunting.

Well, it's a bit bigger than a scooter (OK, at 1500cc, a LOT bigger) but I do have a RAM mount on it to hold either my old Streetpilot or my Delorme PN-40.

This is what AZcachemeister should have done instead of slapping around insults to the OP.
eh.. Just for the record, I am the OP. I wasn't insulted. I knew I was making an understatement and I thought AZ's reply was pretty funny!

I suspect this is a violation of the site TOS...

I had read somewhere on the forums (as part of a discussion on over enthusiastic FTF collectors) that there was a bug that allowed a cache that had not yet been approved to be seen if it had a trackable item (TB, Coin, etc) in it. Is this bug still in existence? I'm in the process of setting up my first cache and I plan to have at least one trackable item and a FTF gift in it when I put it out and I'd rather not have it hit before it's announced to everyone.
