    Water Bottle

Collapsible Hiking Stick - Part of my photography gear, the top unscrews to reveal a 1/4-20 camera mount.

Digital Camera (P&S, the SLR is too big for hiking with)

Motorola GFRS Radio (I've actually got a total of four of these for another purpose, but I keep one in the bag when caching)

    Bug Spray

    Zip lock bags

    Nitrol Gloves

    Notebook

    Pen

    Sharpie Marker

    Tweezers

Screen Protectors (Universal, cut to fit type)

Signature Items to leave in caches (Bronze Bear charms)

First Aid Kit, including Tick Puller

    Emergency Rain Poncho

    Compass

    Mini Maglite

    Delorme PN-40

    Spare batteries

    Some assorted geocoins and TBs

The stuff that travels with me on a day to day basis:

    Cell phone

    Leatherman micro

    Pocket knife

    6' Tape measure

And, if I'm headed into deeper woods (or certain sections of the local cities  ):

    .40 S&W or a small CZ .380

  2. I have a set of 4 GMRS/FRS radios for a non-geocaching related purpose and I usually keep one in my geocaching bag just in case I need it, but I've not heard anyone on it locally.

P.S. Am I the only one who bothered to actually get the FCC license they say you need for operation on the GMRS frequencies?

  3. How do you pull of caching w/o landing in the slammer? Especially when a cache is a challenging one requiring a LOT of poking and examination of an area?

It's amazing how much people will ignore yet another guy wearing a hardhat and a safety vest. ($10 each, Lowes) in a pickup truck working on a lamppost. I got the idea from one of the 999 similar threads here. Do a little reading and you will find tons of ideas. I especially liked the guy who carries a clipboard of phony subpoenas. Whenever he gets someone being too nosy he asks them their name, declares that it sounds familiar and hunts through his stack of papers. They usually leave quickly.

  4. I really like the Lowrance XOG, it is a really sweet unit. If you shop around you can get it for $149.00 and it is already loaded with maps an ready to use.

Unfortunately, the screen on the XOG is far too small for my needs. Since they stopped making the 600c, Lowrance just doesn't make anything that fits my needs any more. Thanks though.

  5. My Lowrance iWay 600c, which I like very much and has served me very well, has died and I'm in the market for a replacement with the same capabilities. (Lowrance has stopped making the iWay series) The closest I've found seems to be the Garmin Nuvi 755t.

Does anyone have any other suggestions for an equivalent replacement for the 600c?

    And/Or

Any owners of the 755t want to share their opinion of it? The ability to buy a lifetime new map subscription is a tempting feature...

  6. I have a 300cc scooter that I've used a few times caching but I don't have a mount yet for it to hold my GPS. Working on finding a mount that will work and then I'll use it more.

Ram Mounting Systems makes mounts for just about any sort of electronics. I use their mounts both in my truck and on my bike for several GPSr's.

Express Mounts carries just about all of Ram's stuff. I've ordered from them before and gotten good, fast service. (Nope, I don't work for them)

  7. I was just wondering what all you geocachers carry with you. Thanks

Lets see... A tour through my bag...

  8. I'm having a different issue with the Pocket Query system than the ones I've seen mentioned. I can't seem to select any of the attributes to include or exclude. When I click on the attributes, they do not highlight and the results don't take them into account. This is happening using Firefox 3 and IE 7 and did work for me in the past. Is anyone else having this problem?

  9. I went looking for a cache in a local public park yesterday and while there were far too many muggles around to safely look for it, I did find something else interesting. The Half Moon, a full scale replica of the ship Henry Hudson sailed up what is now called the Hudson River in 1609, was docked at the spot normally used by another wooden sailing ship, The Clearwater.

Anyone else with something interesting they found instead of (or in addition to) the cache?

  10.

You could always give this one (GCB5D7). From the cache page:

"Not made for the comfort-seeking tourist, you need to get into the world's hottest desert, travel among armed Afar nomad people who are at gunpoint with the ethiopian army and master volcanic territory....the Erta Ale range remains one of the most inaccessible places on earth. There are no roads and temperatures are extremely high. The tribe living there, the Afar people, are proud and strong warriors, often hostile to foreigners....The volcano is situated at the bottom of the Danakil Depression, generally considered to be one of the most inhospitable regions on earth"

What I find really scary about this one is that there are multiple finds on it!

  11. I had read somewhere on the forums (as part of a discussion on over enthusiastic FTF collectors) that there was a bug that allowed a cache that had not yet been approved to be seen if it had a trackable item (TB, Coin, etc) in it. Is this bug still in existence? I'm in the process of setting up my first cache and I plan to have at least one trackable item and a FTF gift in it when I put it out and I'd rather not have it hit before it's announced to everyone.
