As for disclosing any illness in TD logs, a couple of years ago I injured my knee and wouldn't have been able to visit any of my higher T-rated caches for several months.

Poor baby. Your injured knee (kissing the booboo) isn't equivalent to the pandemic.

    Your choice.

GCHQ has no regulations on this. I'd venture to state that every 1st and 2nd world country in the world has laws against requiring someone to state their health conditions in such a public, uncontrolled medium. Therefore, GCHQ would be breaking several countries' laws if they required it.

No. By law, the CO's right to privacy trumps the public's "right to know".

SHOULD? There's no requirement. Is there a moral responsibility? I guess that's up to each individual to determine for themselves.

    No.

Good to hear. Lets see what headquarters say.

Exotic is all a matter of opinion and seems at least partly dependent on where you in the world.

Thanks. My favorite is a homemade cache  on a cachers front lawn that we absolutely loved! It had different compartments and the end result was placing a balloon in a hole, blowing into it, and it opened the door to the log! It took some time to figure out though. The CO even had a stone bench out in front for us cachers to rest while trying to figure it out. lol

I see you didn't answer my posts. Your immaturity is noted. Again, your weak attempts to draw me in as failed. But my haven't. :-)

  5. I'll answer my own question. If I contracted Covid-19 and can not maintain my cache hides that logs say needs maintenance, would I disable them and state the reason why? It's a tough question. I would go by what geocaching headquarters say. But what if headquarters have yet to make a decision on this because it's all so new? What if I said I have covid-19. My worry is no one would want to find my cache  hides even if I tested negative. I did admit to being in self-isolation. A huge difference and taking responsibility. I guess I'll leave it up to geocaching.com and their regulations.

  6. Let me repeat: Since geocache hides have  been postponed during the pandemic due to this highly contagious and debilitating virus, it's an interesting question I asked.

PS: has any other virus stopped Geocaching headquarters from publishing geocache hides?

It's sad that some here like to debate just for the sake of debating. The pandemic is a great concern.

  7. The question is...during this pandemic and if we contracted covid-19 and can't maintain our caches, should we disable the caches but give the reason why we disabled them or not give the reason why we disable them?

Why do you think the context changes the question? Do cachers have a right to know if a CO has any disease? COVID? AIDS? Sickle cell anemia? Cancer?

Whoosh. Me thinks you are looking for an argument. I stand by what I said. I'm not in a debate mood. Reread what I said, it went over your head.

  9. Since niraD decided to take a sentence of mine out of context, here's my full post.

I wish you a speedy recovery from this awful virus. I also commend you for being concerned of spreading it to others! I would temporarily disable it until your covid-19 tests come back negative. Then check on it. Reviewers are very understanding today about the length of time you can disable a cache hide due to this pandemic.  We had to disable a cache until we were out of self-isolation in another state staying with relatives. We didn't have the virus but self-isolated to be on the safe side. But the question is...should you give the reason why you're disabling your caches if you decide to go that route?  If you disable them, it's because you have the virus and can't check on them. What regulations does Geocache headquarters have on this?  Do cachers have a right to know if a CO has Covid-19 before deciding to find their cache? It's an interesting situation.

Do cachers have a right to know if a CO has any other disease? I thought medical privacy laws protected such information in most countries.

I have read terms of use of geocaching. I know that for young children parents can manage their geocaching account. But in this case it is a baby of age <1 year old.. It is all right?

Great question. I know as a kid I would not want my parents to open an account in my name and list all THEIR finds. If my parent did this, I would, when 18 years of age, open my own personal account and find my own geocaches. Parents control their kids for 18 long years, time to cut the apron strings and let them do geocaching with their own account and own screen-name that they themselves picked. Just my humble opinion.

This is the time of year that we pull out the metal detector and hope that either the container, bugs or swag show up... especially for those that show "Not Available in Winter".  We start to pay close attention to that attribute about now.

I have been wanting to get a metal detector. Good advice!

I think the idea of imprinted pens is rather nice. I am still trying to decide whether to use as swag, signature item, or hand out to geo friends. Perhaps a bit of each depending on how many I order at about $1 per

I think as swag is an excellent idea! We have pencils and mini gel pens in our caches and they seem to go quick. But I love your idea to imprint the pens. "I Found a Geocache!". "Geocache Addict". "I <3 Geocaching". This is a fun subject! Please let us know what you decide to imprint on them to give us ideas too!

    Hoi iedereen,

    groetjes persoons

It's received 11 FPs from 19 finds over the five years it's been there, but it's also had a few DNFs from people who didn't look at the cache page before they went in there and, with no data coverage anywhere in the area, couldn't view the photos.

    Great.

One of my hides is a multi with waypoints along a series of waterfalls in a gully with very little view of the sky, so GPS reception in there is pretty poor with an EPE typically around 10 to 15 metres. These were the coordinates I got on four separate days for the final location:

The satellite image was of no help since all showed were tree tops, so about all I could do was provide helper photos on the cache page to get searchers into the right area and then give strong hints at the preceeding waypoints. It's a nice waterfall in an interesting area that fitted well with the theme of the cache, so I really wanted to put it there.

    Wonderful.

My first cache was likely no more than 4 feet from the actual coordinates.  I tried everything I could think of, plus I passed the spot every day as I walked in the park, and checked it frequently.  Just for gee-whiz.  Nobody cares if it's 30 feet off or "0" feet off, at least not when there are only so many likely spots upon arrival, plus a description and hint.  Just ensure there's an extra distance cushion, so there's no saturation issue later.

So it's possible that I'll find it anyway.  But if it IS 30 feet off or more, I probably won't say in my log that the coords are great. :P

In my area, people care about accurate coords and if they are off, they say it in their log. It's equivalent to a NM. lol
