  1. Go back into the thread with the poll you want to view. Under the poll choices there is a "Vote Now" button and a "Results" button. Just click the Results button and you should see it... -exConn What is Project Virginia?
  2. quote:Originally posted by Ranger Rick: I have tried different programs for reducing the file size, various compressions, and other methods to shrink the file but the bottom line is a 120-140kb limitation would help a lot! If you haven't already, check the thread For those who post photographs... where I asked for tips on achieving balance between photo size and quality. Alot of responses there with good tips... -exConn What is Project Virginia?
  3. Jamie said: quote:Arrrg.... Not a rant, but a little peeve of mine, since I enjoy reading the not-found logs. I'd prefer you leave the not-found and _add_ a found when you go back to find it. I was about to respond the same way you did until I read the next part of unclerojelio's post which said: "The edit feature makes it easy to keep your previous comments, add some more, and change the icon from a frowner to a smiler." So, I don't think that the not found experience was lost in this case. However, I do share you concern that people will edit their logs replacing their valuable not found experience with a found. -exConn What is Project Virginia?
  4. Choberiba suggested: quote:As far as the other ratings go.... Maybe a check box like the MOC that defaults to "no" but allows people to rate the cache if selected. This way, people have the option to receive feedback on caches. This eliminates the fear of negative feedback since people would specifically have to request this feedback. Did everyone miss Choberiba's suggestion? I like it. Let the cache owner decide if they want to receive ratings feedback when they create the cache. That way those who have uneasy feelings about ratings don't have to include them when they create a cache and when they rate someone else's cache they can feel comfortable knowing that the cache owner is asking for them. I guess I just resaid what Choberiba did... -exConn What is Project Virginia?

The only reason to do so is if you want to put map products into your GPS (or you happen to like the manufacturers software). This is just a personal issue. If you are happy with the basemap, then you do not need anything else. 9. quote:Originally posted by trippy1976: It looks like GeoBuddy will output streets and trips, but sadly - MapPoint will not read this format. Anyone know of a file conversion utility? Have you tried it yet and it didn't work? That format is just Comma-Separated Values (CSV) and I'm almost certain that MapPoint can bring it in with no problem. I purchased the MapPoint Demo for $10 way back when and edited a CSV file in Excel that had all the Major and Minor League Baseball fields. I then imported that file into MapPoint just fine. I use this same file and it works with my S&T. Seems that MapPoint, which is a stronger program than S&T, would be able to pull in the same file. Maybe I was using a prior version? If you get a chance, please test it and let us know if it worked or not. Since TresOkies is in the process of working on GeoBuddy right now we can make a request that he add this format if your test doesn't work. If it works, however, maybe he can change the output format to say "S&T/MapPoint CSV" so that it is more clear... -exConn What is Project Virginia?

  11. quote:Originally posted by TresOkies: ExConn seems to have several postings that are probably parts of one and appear to be torn apart with HTML tags thrown in to boot. FWIW, you should probably prevent people from screwing around with font tags since they apparently show up. I really got hacked up in that thread. I noticed alot of these strange happenings at the time of the forum transfer, but I have not seen them since. My guess is that the "The forum import was not perfect" statement at the top of the new forums is directed at these types of instances. Also, I never used font tags so I think it was just a one time thing as a result of the forum transfer... -exConn What is Project Virginia?

  13. quote:I bet I could get something decent running pretty quickly. Julie, Jeremy could hand the db over to countless tech savvy people on this board and we all could put up a site. My point is the value of it. It was stated that "$30 is a *lot* to pay for just a database and forum." That is totally preposterous. Work and effort is totally discounted with that statement (not to mention hardware, bandwidth costs, etc.)... -exConn What is Project Virginia?
  14. quote:However, the people who place the cache have as much to do with the sport as the person who runs the database. Of course. quote:Yet nobody cuts them in on the action. $30 is a *lot* to pay for just a database and forum. This is the largest overstatement I have seen in these forums yet! harrkev, Seriously... "Just a database and forum?" The hardware and software to run it must be free then? Hosting services are free? The web pages magically code themselves to access the database? Answering email from users is done automatically? New features are automatically implemented? I guess building the site costs nothing. I guess the time to do so costs nothing either. Let's hand you the geocaching db and forum software and see if you can build and develop your own site to use it for $30. I'm sorry if I'm coming off a little harsh here, but I just so resent your idea that it's just a couple of tools and that somebody's hard work and time is worth nothing. -exConn What is Project Virginia?

  16. To be honest, I barely noticed member only caches until all the discussion broke out. I skimmed the subscription page, knew my money was going to support the site, and that was that... -exConn What is Project Virginia?

  19. I was searching for information on GPSr's and software I could use to create maps of my mountain bike rides. Through searching I stumbled on geocaching.com wondering what the heck it was. You know what happens next... -exConn What is Project Virginia?

  21. quote:Originally posted by Jeremy Irish: Regarding protection, at first I was naive enough to think you meant a large stick or a can of mace. No, no. My poll was not intended to just mean firearms (maybe I should have been more clear), but any item you bring as defense. I'm actually quite surprised at the amount of firearm replies. For the record, I do not use nor own a firearm myself. My answer to the poll would be "Not yet. I never have, but keep thinking maybe I should." I'm not really too concerned, but I've been thinking of having at least an all purpose hiking stick as some have mentioned. Side note: I did not post this poll with the intent to stir up guns rights or safety issues. I'm hoping this will stay on topic... -exConn What is Project Virginia?

  23. quote:Originally posted by mcb: Or are MOC invisible to non-members? Since there aren't very many MOC's yet, try a state search rather than a zip code search. For instance if you do a state search on Utah, a MOC is the 4th one on the list (right now). It looks the same as the others, but has a "Members only" link under the date and a charter icon by the cache title. I'm assuming that if you try to get details and are a non member, it will take you to the subscription page for information... -exConn What is Project Virginia?
