  1. I'd like to add clarification of the need for cache reference numbers eg GCxxxxx which arose from my initial discussion with ACPO. When a Police Officer is faced with a suspect package then a query reliant on mapping would take time to identify clearly and won't take account of the physical stages of multis and puzzles. A cache marked with a reference number can be quickly and uniquely identified.
  2. GAGB is the only elected national UK caching Association and has always created guidelines since caching in the UK has differences to caching in other countries. GAGB is listing site agnostic and recommends its guidelines for all listing sites. Some listing sites adopt these guidelines. No GAGB committee members are Groundspeak Reviewers. The GAGB committee does constantly consult with Groundspeak Reviewers to pool our collective knowledge, for example to consider the pratical implications of guidelines. In this particular case, the GAGB committee proposed a new guideline which was then developed in dialogue with Groundspeak Reviewers. We're considering whether further change is necessary following feedback from the community and any other feedback from the Police. Dave GAGB Chairman
  3. Tim, that's exactly what I've asked ACPO for. We hope that we can work with a SPOC in each police Force to help them respond to questions about caching within their Force and provide them with support whenever necessary.
  4. Interesting idea, thanks. You have mail (I'm sure there must be a good nearby virtual cache they could try out )
  5. Yes, GAGB is handling the contact with other Police Forces. After discussion with Reviewers today about the processes needed to deal with incidents in the future, we'll be contacting Police Forces to put a standard approach in place. Dave (Chairman, GAGB) I've opened discussions today with ACPO (The Association of Chief Police Officers) and they were very receptive. I'll let you know how it goes.

  7. woman on the right of the group, garmin GPS round neck, does that count? I'm pretty sure that was a Tea Trolley ..... Mrs B, come on down!
  8. Well I'm one who has a holiday to Seattle this August booked and paid for. This cache was certainly part of the reason for that choice.
  9. GAGB has a new benefit for members, a discount card for Blacks and Millets. Details here.
  10. Depends on the airline. It definitely has to be off during take-off and landing. Take it on as handluggage and ask before swithcing on. I've used mine on various flights including transatlantic ones, achieving a ground speed of 593 mph (with the benefit of a Gulf stream tail wind)!
  11. Big congratulations and glad to hear the dress has arrived. Hope you get coordinates for all the presents Have a really great day.
  12. Sorry to hear that and hope you improve quickly. All the best.
  13. Just a reminder that nominations are still welcome for the GAGB committee here.
  14. Correction to the above dates: Cut off date for being GAGB member and able to vote: 29/10/10 nominations for chairman open : 30/10/10 close of nominations for chairman: 6/11/10 election for chairman: 8/11/10 - 13/11/10 nominations for committee: 14/11/10 close of nominations: 21/11/10 election of committee: 23/11/10 - 28/11/10
  15. To add a little more information to the list above: "Moze" was actually "Monz" who subsequently changed his caching name to Runemaster "irishe" is actually iryshe In the early days Reviewers usually used their player accounts for reviewing. This changed around 2003 when new accounts were opened for Reviewers (with their choice of name) as a result of unpleasantness elsewhere in the world. We are fortunate in the UK that our Reviewers have always been held in high regard and are therefore willing to be identified despite adopting the worldwide convention of using different accounts for reviewing. Other reviewers also reviewed occasional caches to help out in the early days (I have caches published by gpsfun and Moun10bike), but these were infrequent.
  16. Our CITO is this weekend and we have about 70 people currently shown planning to attend. It's a big area (near Stourbridge) so please come along if you can help, or to the evening event in the pub if you prefer.
  17. GAGB is holding a CITO on a National Trust countryside property, Clent Hills in the West Midlands on Satuday 11th September. Please join us to help out. GAGB CITO with the NT
  18. If someone is studying their GPS then I ask if they are caching and have hardly ever been asked "what's that"? I don't think I've ever been challenged by a non-cacher although I've had plenty of odd looks
  19. The reviewer for London is The Bee Keeper and will help advise you.
  20. Well done Chris, you just improved an already excellent resource. Thanks.
  21. I've been communicating with Tamsin for many months on behalf of GAGB and she has been very supportive of geocaching. Clent Hills is a very progressive NT property, it would be great if someone local could help out.
