  1. I'd certainly go along with what's been said already. The status quo seems fine. I don't really think there is any great advantage to advertising your cache anyway. It's not like you win a prize for the most visitors.

Anyway, I would have thought we were a volatile enough group that the moment anyone tried anything too blatant they'd be burnt to a crisp within minutes by the flaming that would ensue! icon_biggrin.gif

  2. Do we really have to go over all this again!

This is less about censorship than having to go through endless posts rehashing stuff that has been done to death. Tim and June have provived links above for those who have joined the community since it all originally went off, for those of us who were about I'm sure we are all fed up to the back teeth of the episode. It's like a bush fire where every time you think you've doused the flames another fire springs up.

Can we all now get back in our prams and look forward to swapping the nettles of summer for the knee deep mud of winter geocaching.

  3. Due to me being a complete idiot, the travel bug Tangerine The Lionfish was shown as being removed by me a month ago on the same day I had placed it. I'd actually meant to make an additional note and didn't change the log description.

I'm prepared to be beaten to death if people decide I am advertising but as it is hardly the travel bug owners fault, I just thought I should do what I can to let people know Tangerine is still around, particularly as it is not that long ago we had a thread bemoaning the loss of so many bugs.

As a penance I am saying 100 Hail Jeremy Irish. icon_biggrin.gif

  7. Me and my other half were just going into Tescos when news of the first plane hit was broadcast. I remember thinking it must have been very foggy in N.Y. for a plane to hit one of the towers, when we came home two hours later we knew what had happened.

A friend who works for British Airways lost acquaintances, a customer who works for Morgan Stanley in London found that out of, I think, aprrox 2500 staff in the towers they evacuated all but three. Watching the Head of Cantor Fitzgerald being interviewed.

I also read a few web journals, one in particular by a girl who was helping her best friend look for her husband of 13 months. In the end he hadn't made it, but a friend who they thought they had lost turned up a week later. She tried to describe how you celebrate the return of a friend you thought was gone for ever in the company of your friend whose husband had.

  8. Despite agreeing wholeheartedly with the views of it being an exploitation of worried parents I do think it's a slightly better idea than the parents who are presently in the news for having a chip put into their daughter for the same purpose.

can someone let me know if I am alowed to join now the game has started

I think as a punishment for joining late Mark should join the odds for two reasons.

    1) We'd then have someone within a hundred miles of the ball.

    and

    2) He'd have to kick the ball towards Edinburgh. Oh, I'd forgotten, you do that as an even as well! icon_biggrin.gif

I vote for Michael of Team Blitz to be captain for his good idea of letting the evens do the donkey work and we just profit from it! icon_smile.gif

  13. The subject of "naming and shaming" is bound to be a contentious issue and has much more to do with politics, The Suns agenda for increasing circulation etc. but I could offer a solution.

My cousin is a teacher at Soham Community College and there is bound to be some fund set up over the next few weeks, either as a memorial to the girls or as a pro-active fund for "doing something to help". My guess is that this won't be properly set up or even properly planned for a short while as the community gets back on an even keel. Whilst I would prefer not to contact him at this moment I would be happy to find out details of any fund set up so that if our members, and particularly the contributors, feel that is how the money should be donated, they will know exactly how the money will be spent. This would then make sure that the money goes to a fund that will have the backing of both the family and the community who have been effected.

I really have no opinion either way, oparticularly as I have not visited the cache but would be happy to help if thats what everyone wants.

  15. In an effort to make things move, I would ask all members of the Odds team to try and muster some positive thoughts at 8 o'clock this evening so that we might move the ball by telekinesis from where it lies to The Hunters Stones some 15 miles north.

I realise this is a bit of a longshot.

  17. quote:
So my question to you all is: Should I be allowed to submit my series of 6 virtual / 1 real caches as they stand or should I have to combine them into a single "multi-cache"?

There is a third option, which would be to incorporate and post the virtual caches as one cache and the physical cache as a second.

    quote:
I would presume that your intention is that all the caches be done on one day.

In that case, I would have to say that it is really only one cache.

If someone places a series of physical caches in a relatively small geographical area and these can be done "together" should that only count as one? (Not that the count matters).

For me the rule of thumb would be, if you can walk round the series from first to last then it is one cache, if it requires you to use transport to get between each, (because of distance, not convenience), then they would be seperate.

But as already mentioned, there's never going to be a right or wrong answer to this question and perhaps shows one of the big differences between countryside and urban geocaching.
