  1. With all these different great new state maps being done, is there anyway to make them all part of the same mapset instead of seperate mapset for each state? That would make things easier to manage in mapsource and on the GPS.

    From http://www.miscjunk.org/mj/mp_effort.html

If you choose to support this effort by donating $35 or more I would like to thank you by sending you a State Topo Maps CD. This consolidated mapset is built from all of the individual state mapsets and is not available for download.
  2. After considering my options I removed the SD card which contains the some of the Garmin topo maps, the MiscJunk maps, and some mp3s. At that point the US Topo and the Topo 2008 maps in the nuvi memory work as expected.

The initial indication is that the maps all work, just not all the time. The maps on the card work when the card is in, but apparently the maps in the internal memory don't work when the card is in. I'll try reinstalling the maps tomorrow and see if that makes any difference.

    Any ideas are welcome.

  3. With my nuvi 660 (current firmware and detail set to highest) I get no topographic contours with either Topo 2008, the older US Topo, or the 24K National Parks maps. With the Wyoming maps from http://MiscJunk.org I get contours.

I do get all the roads and streams, etc., just no contours. I'd love to find out there was a simple fix for this. Maybe its a change from the 600 series to the newer models.

As portable and powerful as ever, the nüvi 2x5 models are available in vibrant 4.3” or 3.5” screens with an all new shaded elevation mapping display. Using Garmin’s unique Web site — Garmin Connect Photos — users can choose from millions of geo-located photos provided by Google’s Panoramio photo sharing community and download them to the nüvi for a richer navigation experience using pictures as a guide. The nüvi 2x5 series features a fast 333 Mhz Microprocessor which greatly enhances the map drawing and routing capability. In addition, satellite reception is even faster than before thanks to Garmin’s new HotFixTM feature which automatically calculates and stores critical satellite information and can use that information to quickly calculate a position without waiting for data collection from the satellites.

  5. Does it work ?

I received the message "Exception thrown" during startup.

I didn't have any problems. So far I've only had a few minutes to play with it, but It will let me move tracks and waypoints back and forth and view them on MapSource Topo. I already had the maps installed from trying MapInstall, so I don't know yet whether it eliminates the need for converting a Windows installation.

  6. 3.02 doesn't have DEM data

2008, in addition to the DEM data, has somewhat update roads, POIs and contouring based on the DEM data rather than the metric contours on the 1:100,000 maps from the USGS. Also, 2008 comes on a DVD and installs on your hard drive by default. 3.02 comes on 3 CDs and defaults to needing to insert a disk when you want to use it. It can be installed on the hard drive without much trouble, however.
