  1. Sometimes they DO move TBs, or at least they take them... whether they move them on remains to be seen in some cases.
  2. SUPERCALIFRAGILISTICEXPEALIDOCIOUS
  3. Firefox seems to be just another menace, but hope we're wrong. Never used it before so downloaded and installed it to day. We tried to remove the Google Seacr facility but it won't have it... Went through the uninstal bit... it said the search bar would be removed on next restart, but as soon as it starts, up comes the BLAB saying "We know you just want the toolbar.." Well, we don't and we can't get rid of it. Goodbye Firefox - we'll stay with IE thanks.
  4. We would never think of taking a trackable to an event in future. Our TBs are precious to us and we like to know where they are!
  5. A "bad" cache is any cache which cannot be found within ten seconds of arriving at the co-ordinates, or for which you are the first to log a DNF in ten pages of "found quickly" logs. A "bad" cache quickly becomes an "excellent" cache in the following days when one instantly locates it and realises that on the previous attempt the GPS was upside down!
  6. We l-o-o-o-ng gave up keeping lists of all caches as they change so frequently. Agree with the Mars Bars, but limit the number further to just a few dozen in the area you plan to visit and download them from GC.COM as late as possible prior to your trip so you have the very latest info (even then you can be caught out by people who delay logging for various reasons). We do this with both caches and trig points and it works OK.
  7. Johnmelad.... Gawd knows. Looks like one of those threads that only certain people know about so why it's on a public forum we don't understand. If it's a very serious matter which could affect all of us then at least some basic details should be given. Nothing has to be said to disclose precise details but please don't keep us all in the dark with this 007-stuff.
  8. Glad you're leaving this tip and returning to sanity - and tangelos, passion fruit and hokey-pokey ice cream! God willing we'll be down there early next year on another family visit and hope to do some caches this time.. Take care and have a good trip back...
  9. So... 8am Saturday morning got straight in with no problems using the "new" password they sent us. Checked a few pages.... looked at the forum... then decided to check our stats (as determined by GCUK).. it told us we weren't logged in. Without thinking, we entered our OLD password and ID and it accepted them! It was an interesting, but frustrating, exercise so think we'll stay with GC.COM in future!!
  10. It's a totally screwy system... I applied for a new password, which was automatically emailed to me. I signed in with the new password and that appeared to work. BUT... when I tried to enter the Forum it told me I had to sign in.... so I did so, but it doesn't seem to recognise the password it has just sent me... so I cannot get into the Forum.
  11. OK, I've spent a while trying to log in to GCUK in an attempt to reach the trigpoint forum. Whatever I do I can't get in so does anyone know a secret method? I tried using "pass" as the password, as instructed, but it didn't like that. If I use what I believe are the correct ID/PW it appears to work... but when I click "forum" it suggests I need to log-in or register. So, I go through the process again and again with no joy. Maybe I've messed up.. so I attempt to re-register from scratch. It then tells me that the ID and PW are already in use! Can anyone help pleeeese.
  12. We've done just about everything together all our lives so would never think of geocaching other than together. Hence, we're "Birders" and will stay thus..
  13. OK.. mystery has now been solved. Many thanks.
  14. Thanks for your offer James. The TB page is: http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=112826 Unfortunately, we don't know where it is as the cache "Eats roots and Leaves" is not published! Can you tell us who your local reviewer is so maybe we could email him/her and find out the story about the cache and when it might be published? Many thanks
  15. Hi Folks in Paradise... One of our precious TBs was recently placed in the cache "Eats Roots and leaves" by some Oz cachers. Problem is, whenever we go to view the cache it says it's unpublished so we don't know where it is other than Victoria! We emailed the cachers (solomonfamily), who seemed to have had fun with the TB before dropping it off - but they have not responded. We're hoping to be in Oz early next year and want to keep a close eye on several TBs so we can arrange a reunion. If anyone can throw some light on this we'd be very grateful.
  16. <<both receivers still mechanically perfect.... >> We hope they're electrically perfect too!!
  17. barryhunter wrote: "but otherwise Local Live is more like Google Maps than Earth." Barry.. haven't you clicked "Aerial", or "Bird's eye view"? In the right places it's very considerably better than Google but has limitations , as I mentioned earlier. As for out of date images, Google certainly suffers - the map of our house is a few years out of date. In other forums people have commented that images have been "updated" with older details, which is weird. However, considering it's free we can hardly complain.
  18. It's brilliant... but only for certain areas, much like Google Earth. If you choose the right spot it's very good - it has that brilliant "birds eye view" for our son's house in fareham so you can almost see in the window. But for our place Google Earth is very considerably better than Windows Local Live, which provides much less magnification. For parts of Scotland, which Google only shows as a low-res blur, Windows Local Live goes down to street level.. Only other point is that Google allows entry of co-ordinates but Windows Local Live does not (well, not that we've been able to find!). Always best to check them both we think, then you have the best of both worlds.
  19. We had the older version of Windows on a previous PDA and it was very good. We bought a new PDA (IPAQ 2790) which had V5 installed and it's been nothing but trouble.. and it is significantly s-l-o-w-e-r than the old version. This is backed up by comments on various forums. A major problem was the handling of the memory card slots with batteries going flat overnight. HP produced a patch which helped that, but the thing is still very slow. We would not recommend you switching..
  20. We have on several occasions found "undesirable" items in caches but today we were very concerned to find a cigarette lighter and several party poppers in one. The log did not mention the items so we do not know if they were put there by cachers. The cache was in a wooded area where fire is a serious hazard, particularly in dry weather. Do others agree with our sentiments that such items are not the right things to leave in caches?? What do our reviewers think??
  21. Don't touch IPAQ, which we unfortunately have. Our son's Mio is totally brilliant.
  22. It means it's ready for geocaching!
  23. <<rarely come across one driven by a driver who is prepared to do 50 50 share of taking nearside wheels off road when passing front to front along narrow county lanes .>> We really had to fall about at that remark. We have a 10+ year-old Toyota RAV4 (which has exactly the same footprint as our equally ancient Escort and uses exactly the same amount of petrol). We seem to spend half our lives pulling off the road so that people in their BMWs and Mercs can get by. When they see us approaching on a narrow road they just stop! Maybe we should stop too?
