When I approved the one that Redwoodred mentions in her initial post, I hesitated. Mostly over the first word, not the last. After all, it is pronounced "beaut"--as in "beautiful". The one that RenegadeKnight mentioned was easy. It was foul language that just didn't need to be there. The admins all agreed that **** does not have a place on this site. I also don't have a problem with clever uses of the word "dam" but I haven't approved other spellings of it. I swear as much as the next guy, but not in my geocaches. This is a family for show! - Seth!

Perhaps my next cache should give coordinates for the nearest "chill pills". Let's all take a deep breath and say, "We're talking about geocaches." As admins, we're not out to spoil anyone's parade--or their ice cream, or their potty break. We're trying to maintain a fairly level playing field. The Argonds' caches received quite a bit of discussion. In the end, we figured most of the caches sounded super. But we also have to remember that people will get ticked off if they think we let a commercial advertisement slip through. We try to be safe, not sorry. But we are sorry if we've gone and upset the Argonds. Please understand that we are trying to do a reasonable job at our task and we try to consult everyone before we make big decisions. When I first saw these come through, I thought that they were actually in Ireland. Duh. When they were first submitted, they didn't say "Boy Scouts Only" but I guess that would be kind of obvious since they are for "camp participants". At any rate, it WILL be archived by the 27th. Don't worry.

I think that the geocaching community as a whole supports the cache-in/trash-out concept, and that includes the admins. But please consider that if one geocache gets a cache/trash partner then every such cache would have to be approved. It just doesn't make sense for every geocache to have another cache a few feet away just for trash bags. The admins have to think of these things when approving geocaches; not just your cache, but all the ones that might follow. The idea about showing park officials a cache page with just trash-out logs is nice, but again it would not be practical (or useful) to execute it 1000-fold. I think that if we want to show park officials that our efforts are serious, there are other ways. What I would like to see is new standard equipment for geocaches: Just like a logbook and pencil are SOP, how about putting in a ziplock baggies with trash bags inside? You could probably stuff a half-dozen or so plastic grocery bags into a ziplock and those would be a good size for most trash-out work. As for the cache in question, couldn't you add the trash-out cache as an early stage in the multi-cache? Cheers, Seth!

It doesn't look promising, Wil. The rough coordinates from Skagway are N 59° 33.896' W 135° 19.680'. A search for geocaches puts the nearest ones north in the Yukon Territory (about 75 miles!) or south around Juneau (about 80 miles!) So unless someone else plants one there soon, you may just have to hide one yourself. That could be pretty fun. Let us know how the excursion goes. Seth!

Most of the hotels I have stayed in lately just have a second line for dial-up access. I could look into it if you like. You can always come over and use my DSL connection. (It would be kind of funny if you used it for Mission: Impossible. We'd have to take turns sending cryptic messages.) I happen to know that there are several geocaches within walking distance of my house. Seth!

Hey, let's p!ss and moan some more. First of all, as the sport has grown there have been a lot of really stupid geocaches submitted. Those approving geocaches have a tough job. Personally, I am happy if a lot aren't getting approved because there is no shortage of geocaches in the NW and we certainly don't need any more that suck. I have to laugh about local admins. Helloooo! If anybody has local admins, it's the Pacific NW! But I really don't see why it should matter. Usually a lame geocache idea is pretty obvious just by reading the page. You don't have to know the area to know that "find an out-house" or whatever is a freaking lame geocache idea. There are other web sites for the terminally disgruntled... Just my two cents. - Seth!

Hey gang! Remember the Project Ape Geocaches? Many of them are achived now (6 out of 13 archived) but I'd like to see their pages. Would someone be so kind as post the cache ID number for the archived ones? Obviously I can find the active ones by doing a search. Thanks! You can e-mail the nice folks at geocaching.com but I think that they would prefer not to get a hundred e-mails a day asking for "unarchiving". That's why the "Temporarily Disable" feature was added. If you think you might revive a geocache, just disable it. Archived geocaches are intended to be closed for good. As for the one in Sweden, the problem is that the cache owner has not made the request. It's his/her baby and that's that. On the other hand, you can still log a find on archived geocache (I believe) so you might think of it as a well kept secret if it is indeed still in place. - Seth!

In addition to the posts here, I have received a few e-mail letters. The general consenus is to keep the original one going. I will try to keep it up through the summer. I'm not sure how practical it will be to have two going at once and I know that some of the local geocachers are ready for the next Mission. So I need to keep that in mind as well. I will try to have the two Missions overlap for at least a few weeks. As for modifying the first one to extend its life, I am still trying to figure out how I could do that while retaining its quality. Several of you who have expressed interest in doing the Mission are from out of town. As it says in the description, that makes it more challenging. In order to have the Mission seem more authentic and build more suspense, it was designed to take several days to complete. That is something to consider. (Each of the four characters has at least two tasks.) Seth!
