  1. Welp, that sucks. Problems again.....I'm in the GSAK thread. I knew this wouldn't go smoothly..lol
  2. Very good information, Jeeps! Nice page!
  3. Congratulations Feederstork! Now it's off to the next one!
  4. Go to the main site... www.geocaching.com and then type in your zipcode or the zipcode you found the cache in the top right and find the one that you found today. Click on it and at the top of that cache page, you can click Log Your Visit. That's all you gotta do! Congrats on your first cache find!
  5. Looks like there might have been more to this marker at one time and the rest of it was either lost or stolen. I have been doing a little looking around on the net for something to help but can't find much. http://www.tngenweb.org/darkside/cast-iron.html http://www.tngenweb.org/darkside/masonic.html http://www.tngenweb.org/darkside/typology.html I find old, historical things like this interesting as well, Jeff.
  6. Not exactly a store but my first choice is always www.ebay.com.
  7. LOL....yeah, it kinda helps to talk it out, even if I do look like I am talking to myself most of the time. Going to hook up the GPSr and see if a download goes through to it.....after dinner.
  8. YAY! Got the second part of my post fixed too. GSAK opens up with the correct co-ords and everything. Whew! Ok....now to download it into my GPSr......I's skeered! I'm sure this is going to go smoothly either....lol
  9. Ok...I got this part figured out. I opened the file and exported it to my desktop. Then I opened it with GSAK. Is there an easier way to get it to open up automatically into GSAK or am I doing it right? I don't mind doing it this way but if there's an easier way, I'd like to know.
  10. Oh great! Here I am again...lol First, I opened the pocket query I was sent with WinZip and it opened the GPX files in EasyGPS instead of GSAK. Is there a way I can get the file to open up in GSAK instead of EasyGPS? Also, the co-ords that are showing in EasyGPS aren't the same co-ords that show on the cache page on GC.com. What did I do wrong now?
  11. apparently not. Even though you don't enjoy a particular hobby, you don't have the right to accuse and insult people who do. Please try to show respect for people who have different interests than you. If you can't treat people who are different from you with respect, then you still have some growing to do. FOR PETE'S SAKES!! Don't you get it??? I don't have a thing against people that play D&D! I do have something against people playing games with other peoples caches, which is what we kinda thought was going on with this marking until someone pointed out that it was a marking for a bike race. That's it....that's all I was saying. Maybe I shouldn't have used D&D as an example. For that, I apologize. I was merely trying to point out the stupidity of someone taking the game into an unnatural stage by marking caches like an imaginary character. Yes, D&D was not a good example. But so what? It doesn't mean I was making fun of or putting down those that do play D&D. I was talking about someone adding role-playing into geocaching. I was glad to find out later that it wasn't anything like that at all. You are making this into a bigger deal than it is. Don't go making me out like I am intolerant of people with different interests because you couldn't be more wrong. Please drop this and get back on topic, that is if you have anything of value to add to it.
  12. Hmmm....ignorant, huh? I think that attack should at least get a warning from the mods but I'm not going to push it. FYI, I've played D&D before. It was fun for a while, then I GREW UP! Go drink another case and down a few more pizzas. Better yet, to borrow a phrase.....GET A LIFE, GO GEOCACHING! Nice profile pic, btw. Welcome to the forums!
  13. Thanks Cherokeecacher! This was actually a big part of my problem. I'm going to give it a try. I also tried running a pocket query last night and it didn't come back with any results so I'm going to try your suggestion of limiting my cache types.
  14. GPX files are either created on-the-fly as it seems you have done, or via a Pocket Query which can be scheduled. It's just a file, but GSAK allows you to drag/drop the file to import it into the application's database. Sounds like you're downloading a LOC file and not a GPX file. On each individual cache page, you can download the info as a LOC or if Premium, as a GPX. On the page that lists many (20) caches, you can only check off and create a LOC file. In a Pocket Query, you can create either based on the drop-down list selection near the bottom of the PQ page. A GPX file has more info then a LOC file. Team DEMP & byonke Both of you provided some of the information I needed. I never even saw the pull-down on the bottom of the pocket query screen to change them to GPX files. I also didn't know about the drag and drop feature for the GPX pocket query files. Thanks so much for your help! I'm sure this won't be the last of my silly questions about this...lol
  15. Let me reiterate: I was responding to adampiersons remark about it possibly being a tag. It would be taking the game too far to go marking caches as a sign that you had been there. I wasn't slamming anyone that plays D&D, persay. I was merely saying it would be taking the game to a whole different level of seriousness if someone actually went so far as to "tag" a cache and leave their Zorro mark on it to make some sort of weird point to the next batch of cachers that they were there. Anyway, this was all said before any of us found out what the marking really was. I was just as freaked out about it as archeaor was. Seemed very odd and the first thing I thought when I saw his post was that it was some kid playing his own weird version of a geocaching character role-play game. Get over yourselves.
  16. Yeah, I tried that but it was taking too long. It was creating a new file for each cache. I want to download a bunch at one time and put them in one file and add them to GSAK.
  17. Hello all! I posted this in another thread not knowing this thread was around. Please forgive me for not reading the other three pages of this thread. Seems the more I read about other peoples problems with files, the more I get confused. My previous post and my questions: First off, I'm a premium member so I can get GPX files. I downloaded GSAK and EasyGPS to see which one I like better. So far, just by how much information you can obtain about the caches from the downloads, seems like GSAK is the way to go. Ok...so I downloadrd some waypoints from my search page. Is there a way to get them to download directly into GSAK instead of making them a seperate file on my computer? (Currently putting them into a file in My Documents) Also, they download from GC.com and import into GSAK as .loc files. Hardly any information is available about each cache and every cache has the same blue question mark as the icon. I assume that a GPX file is the one with all the extra information, right? How do I fix it so it will download from GC.com and into GSAK as a GPX file? Once I get all the information set up in the GSAK program on the caches that I want, I am going to be uploading to a Garmin eTrex (I think I have all the right cables). I don't even want to attempt downloading into my GPSr until I can get GSAK set up to download the right files with all the right information. And even though I can't download all the information about a cache, i.e. logs and placed by, type of cache, etc, into my GPSr, I'd still like to have it in GSAK as a reference when looking at caches. Am I doing all this wrong? I've read so many different threads on all this that I have completely confused myself. I'm pretty sure this isn't going to be the first question I have while doing all this...lol
  18. Oh thank you, Cherokeecacher. I didn't even see that thread.
  19. I'm going to take a wild guess that I am at least as educated as Pandybat, and probably more gainfully employed. Nice stab at me since you don't even know me. I think you would be guessing wrong anyway. What does this have to do with anything? Overall, I'm probably much more grounded in any reality than Pandybat. I highly doubt that. Perhaps someone, Pandybat, needs to realize that geocaching isn't any less nerdy than dungeons and dragons and that any perceived crap likely comes from within. I realize that. I was responding to adampiersons remark about it possibly being a tag. It would be taking the game too far to go marking caches as a sign that you had been there. Anyway, this was all said before any of us found out what the marking really was. On a lighter note, any D&D player would know that when you mark a path, any referee worth his dice is certain to have some wandering critter move or erase the mark so a D&D player wouldn't waste the time making such a mark. LMAO! No comment. My apologies for the small rant, but I get so sick of geeks pouting about gamers and their alleged misantrhopy/grounding in reality/inability to relate to the rest of the world/whatever. SSDP folks. A lot of people think geocachers have too much time on their hands. Welcome to the forums, dcowan38!
  20. This is driving me crazy. I've read thread after thread on this and I still don't get it. First off, I'm a premium member so I can get GPX files. 21. OK, this touches on a question I had.. I agree that leaving business cards, etc. is at best tacky, and at worst a violation of the rules, but what about swag? Say (for example), I got a bunch of camera cases, tote bags, CD wallets, or T-shirts, or whatever, with the logo of a local business, and used them for trade items - would this be acceptable? (I'm talking about good quality stuff, not dollar-store items, and stuff that would be actually useful.) I ask because this topic came up with a friend - he's looking for cheap ways to advertise his business, and I thought that as long as it's quality stuff, that this would be acceptable (if it didn't have the logo on it, it'd make great swag - having a logo shouldn't disqualify it.) As a specific example, he has 20 or so T-shirts ('Gilden' - a good brand name) with his logo, that are leftovers from a recent promotion. I think they'd make great trade items. Am I wrong? I don't know what the rules are on this type of commercializing. I wouldn't mind a "trade item" with someones logo on it. But as far as throwing a few business cards into a cash as a way of promotion, it just seems like clutter.
  22. <slightly facetious post>Not automatically. Say, for example, you were a nuclear chemist. The chances of someone hiring you to do some nuclear chemistry from leaving that card is not high. If, however, you were a local jobbing plumber and you left a dozen cards in every cache you visited..... completely different deal.</slightly facetious post> I disagree... Please don't do that to any of my caches (when I get them out ). If one person does it, they'll all do it and nobody wants to see their cache filled up with advertising. I could do this same thing because we own a local business, yet I don't because I don't think it goes along with the concept of what geocaching is all about. It's definitely not about networking or advertising your business.
  23. I always assumed his name was: Upinyachit = Up in your doo-doo Correct me if I am wrong, folks. Yep, you're right but if you just glance at it real quick, it could mean several things. Could also mean "up in Yachit"....isn't that that a town somewhere in Arkansas??
