  1. Ebay! You can get twice that for them. Our local community gets first crack at them, then eBay.
  2. If you were unable to attend but want a geocoin from the event, please let me know. They were $10 at the event so I am adding $1.50 for shipping and handling. Have a handful of Gold and about 40 Nickel coins left.
  3. Always try to host the event the first Sunday in December. Next years event will likely be Sunday, December 7th.
  4. First batch went out the door today. Still about 20 Gold and about 40 Nickel available.
  5. Down to about 30 Gold and 40 Nickel. Those who have ordered and paid, I am hoping to get first shipment out tomorrow.
  6. The Caching Through The Snow Event #4 was held in Sparta, NJ on December 9th. About 60 geocachers joined a pre-hike through the Sparta Edison WMA and a total of 80 participants joined together to celebrate the year-end at the actual event. These coins were made to mark the celebration: FRONT BACK The coins a festive scroll design (based on a Basel Fasnacht pin). The Front highlights a bear holding a "Please Don't Feed The Geocachers" sign; a cache map (similar to those given to the pre-event hike participants) and an image of my dog Bailey skiing. Two bears peek out from the sides of the coin as the pre-hike area is well known for its overpopulation of black bears. On the backside, my annual tradition of including a Scottish or Gaelic Seasonal Toast continued with "Slainte maith, h-uile latha na chi 'snach fhaic" translated to mean "Good health every day whether I see you or not". The coins are 1.75" tall by 1.6" wide and 3.5mm thick. These are two tone metal coins. They are trackable at geocaching.com with an event icon. I have about 40 of the Gold with antique silver coins and about 50 of the Nickel with antique bronze left. The cost of the coins is $11.50 each including shipping/handling (insurance is optional, let me know if you want it) for individuals in the United States. Outside the US, contact me and we'll figure it out. I will ship the coins in padded envelopes once payment is confirmed. Please email me if you are interested and include your name/address/email address so I can send a paypal invoice. This is a first come, first served offer until they are gone.
  7. And look at the size of that cache on the back of his truck!!! It must be my XMas present.
  8. Congratulations Brian! Keep on hunting (and thanks for all the great hides).
  9. Finally recovering from yesterday's event. I have to rethink that mid-point location next year if I am going to lug out a big box and stereo. My back and shoulders are paying for it today. Anyway, it was a really great event and I am so glad so many of you put it on your schedules to attend. From the pictures, logs and emails, it sounds like everyone had a great time. Thanks again to Treequest for hiding half the new caches in the area. His "hide flavor" really helps make this event special. I do have coins left for anyone who wants more or anyone who was not able to attend but collects coins. Send me an email letting me know if you are interested. I'll put together a YouTube video soon so keep watching. Happy Holidays everyone!
  10. Congratulations Pete! Keep on hunting. PS - Missed you this year at CTTS #4.
  11. Congratulations! Little did you know but the whole Caching Through The Snow Event was a party in your honor. Keep on hunting.
  12. Last post of the morning before I head out the door. The weather is turning on us just a bit as the morning is forecast to begin as snow this morning and then turn to freezing rain this afternoon. It does sound like we will get through most of the hike (and possibly even the lunch) before the freezing rain arrives. But the possibility that the messy stuff arrives early means it will be important to have good footwear (ie. hiking boots) and poles or a walking stick would be adviseable. Looking forward to seeing everyone today!
  13. More housekeeping note: Parking near Kroghs is at N41 01.949 W074 38.475 It would be a BIG help to the Krogh's staff if you can be clear about how you plan to settle your bill up front (individual vs table). They will do it either way but a table bill that you divy up is best for them. Again, arrive early if you want a table. We will overflow the dining area so some people will need to go in the bar area. I have asked Kroghs to set aside a large, long table for the CaptainMath group of 20. If you are not in that group, please pick another table. The doors at Kroghs open at 12:00 (noon) Looking forward to the event.
  14. More new caches to load into your GPS for the Pre-Event Hike. The Victor Mine Hardbargen Edisons Sporadic Erratic Quartz knoll Pogbog A HUGE "THANK YOU" to Treequest for placing these in support of the pre-event hike.
  15. The coins arrived today - WHEW!!! New weather forecast for Sunday - SNOW!!
  16. Weather forecast is turning more snowy - you guys are doing the right dances!! Fri Dec 7 Snow Shower 33°/28° 60% Sat Dec 8 AM Snow Showers 40°/23° 40% Sun Dec 9 Cloudy 35°/30° 20% PS - The FTF logs on the new cache suggest they are as evil as intended.
  17. The forecast seems to be clearing out the rain to Monday. We will get snow tomorrow so maybe there will be some in spots but the temps Thursday - Sunday appear to be in the high 30s so it may not survive. We are up to 59 confirmed hikers! WOW! Even more attendees are confirmed for the real event at Kroghs. Get there early if you want a table as that is about 10 more people than they have table space. Don't worry, there is additional room at the bar. Is the group reserving the entire restaurant? It's pretty small unless theres a basement or something that I don't know about? Yes, we are pretty much reserving the entire restaurant. We are already over their capacity for the dining room as they maintain a few tables by the windows for "regulars". But there is additional room in the bar area and they will serve food there so we are probably good to go. Again if it is really important to be at a regular table (ie. have kids) be there right at noon. But we should be alright.
  18. Ok, here are the first of eleven new caches placed out in the Sparta WMA for the pre-event hike on Sunday. If you are joining us on the hike, PLEASE resist the urge to go get a first to find on Saturday. Load up these coordinates and the others in the area so you are ready to go. Red Tape Hibernate Ed's Old Man TomE's Fingertip Cliff Climber Bandit's Hideout Boulder Bowling For the competition style hunt we will have, you need as many of the geocaches in the area loaded as possible. So far, weather still looks good - we had snow today. See you Sunday.

  20. Forecast for tomorrow - Winter Storm warning Forecast for next Sunday - 47 degrees and rain You guys aren't doing your snow dances right. Pray for SNOW!!!
  21. If you do it by yourself or with only a couple partners (as opposed to the 40 person entourage that "found" it during the Caching Through The Snow #2 Event), my Evil Little Man Deep In The Woods is a good challenge and often requires gear. It is a challenging placement in a bear infested area.
  22. Congratulations! Keep on hunting - 10,000 is just around the corner.
  23. The pre-event hike will be at the Sparta Edison WMA. A few requests for the location, it's the only place we have actually had snow for this event and Treequest offering to help place some new caches (thank you very, very much!!) sold me on the location. We will plan to meet at the (small) parking lot near the Edison monument [N41 03.817 W074 34.243] between 8:30 - 8:50 AM. Step off shortly thereafter to keep us on schedule for Kroghs at 12:00 (noon). If the parking lot is full, please pick your parking spot as to not block the road in any way or you'll risk getting a ticket. Last time we were here, people did a very good job and I was not aware of any problems. Should be another great hike. PRAY FOR SNOW!!!
