  1. Congratulations! At great milestone cache to get it at. Keep on hunting.
  2. Congratulations! Keep on hunting! I'll have a new series out in Whittingham soon so you, Lakelady and Avroair can go swamp-bogging again.
  3. The snow will be a good equalizer for the group approach - Avroair might actually have to bring his GPS. Really, stages 1 and 3 could be very tough with greater than an inch or so of snow on the ground. The other are a bit more obvious with the help of the clue. I'd give you a number for a phone-a-friend but I'll be on a plane throughout the day. With this talented crew, I'm sure you can find them. Bring a towel to dry off the petroglyphs so you can see them. Good luck!
  4. Not only are the ticks still out and active, so are the BEARS! Here's a picture Team Hopewell took up by my Ridge Trail Cache in Sparta, NJ. It made it's den right out in the open. This location is about 0.5 miles from downtown. Keep your eyes open!
  5. Ordered 5 - two to keep and three to put in caches were Bigfoot has been sighted!
  6. I added three to the auctions today: Netherlands geocoin Silver Caching Through The Snow Too TRL Bearbait These appear under "bearbait13". Please help bid these up to support this fantastic family!
  7. After reading this log from my Bounce! cache, I have to get a few of these coins and put them in there for the next finder. Hope I don't miss them!
  8. Congratulations Waterboy with Wife on the FTF for the Petroglyph Trail Challenge cache. I have a special FTF prize for you that will take me a couple weeks to get made up and I will post a pic here when ready. I can't tell you how relieved I am that all the pieces worked. This cache gave a whole new meaning to "set in stone". One other note for future seekers, once you've hit the final cache I would recommend you head to this spot (N41 13.125; W074 43.102) for one of the most spectacular views in northwest NJ. It requires about another 200' climb and 0.3 mile hike but it is worth it.
  9. After two months in planning and about $100 in drill bits, I finally completed the Stokes State Forest Petroglyph Trail Challenge. As I told a few of you I'd provide a heads up, here it is. If this works the way I intended it to, it will provide an excellent long hike through a scenic forest with some great views along the way. If it doesn't, I'm sure a couple nastygrams might be headed my way. Since it is such a long hike and this is a bit of an experimental concept, if you are heading out and want a phone-a-friend link drop me an email in advance and if I'm available I'll give you a number to call in case you get stuck. Bring your camera because you will want it. Here's a preview of your path: Good luck and ENJOY!!
  10. According to Bailey's vet, the current weather makes them even more of a theat as our (and our pets) body heat makes us easier to "see" in this cool but not freezing weather. I pulled a few off Bailey yesterday after hiking on Saturday.
  11. Ashley, Glad to see you are checking in to this forum. It really demonstrates what a great impact your dad had on so many of us. To his long list of credits, you can certainly add his being a founding father of geocaching in Northern NJ. I can certainly say that if Skully & Mulder Needful Things VII hadn't been the second cache my family did, we might not have gone much further (the first cache was smelly, wet and in very poor condition). Your dad's caches were always well placed and well maintained. Needful Things VII lead us back to the Sparta Edison area which remains one of my family's all time favorite locations to explore. While your here, make sure to check out the geocoin forum to see the outpouring of appreciation and support from the national community of geocachers for your dad and your family. Here's the link. TRL
  12. I'm in for donating a: TRL Bearbait Silver LE Caching Through The Snow Too Dutch Geocoin C'mon folks, bid them up. This is a great family who means a lot to the foundation of geocaching in Northern NJ.
  13. I'll be sending you three: * TRL Bearbait coin * Silver Caching Through The Snow coin * A Dutch geocoin The last one is pretty rare in the US so I hope it will fetch a decent amount. Let me know when they are posted on ebay as I would like to watch the bidding (and maybe help push it higher if need be ). All the best, TRL
  14. Congratulations, my friends!! I'm proud to know a few TRL caches helped you along to that goal! Keep on hunting!
  15. I'm stunned! As Skully & Mulder caches were the first for us to do, Helmut and his family can truly be credited with getting us hooked on the sport. His find logs always highlighted that he kept this a family affair as I rarely saw one without the girls and Autumn. I used Helmut's hides as a benchmark for quality in Morris/Sussex County. He will be greatly missed.
  16. Congratulations! Keep on hunting.
  17. Wow! This has been an intriguing debate to watch all day. I have to admit I see both sides. From the GC side, they have built a pretty good product and should have a reasonable opportunity to benefit from their creativity and investments. A good business should have its eye on fiscal opportunity. I agree with that. From a geocacher/geocoiner perspective, this site grew from a grass roots movement and a significant part of the opportunity arose from excitement and enthusiasm which included non-trackable geocoins (as it increased revisitation to this GC site versus another destination). I also agree with that. I feel a lot of the frustration being voiced comes from the fact that as GC.com changes from a more altruistic perspective to a commercial perspective there are growing pains. Such growing pains are always magnified in a monopoly. GC.com should be aware that increasing taxation in a monopoly should bring increased benefit. I continue to be shocked how little lobbying exists from this organization - that I can mountain bike on NPS land because IMBA lobbies but can't geocache because GC doesn't is appalling to me as a lot more of my money is going here than to IMBA. A connection to the expansion of the sport would go a long way for me. It also puzzles me that as this is increasingly becoming a business, why are there volunteers? While I sincerely appreciate cache submission reviewers and forum moderators, with so much money flying around why aren't they paid to support their time and attention? Geocachers/geocoiners should be aware that GC.com is a pretty excellent site. Unless someone else can create a better mousetrap, expect to pay more. If you want that to change, a boycott is worthless - create competition. I'll continue to watch the debate to see if this is jump the shark moment or if everyone will rebalance the benefits we have all come to enjoy.
