  1. Thanks. I will be meeting with the event organizers within the next week and will follow up with details.
  2. Would love to go but...I'll be doing the whiskey tour in Scotland that day!
  3. Congratulations! Keep on hunting.
  4. Finally got off my tookas and did a real day of caching. Went 5/6 before calling it a day. Fell through the ice with the dog while crossing a lake during the final two searches. Only thigh high but COLD. That aside, great to get out and enjoy a hike in the woods.
  5. The biggest problem with the second one you posted that I see is that it relies on some kind of cellphone network. In very large areas where I hike and cache there is no cellphone reception. So any system would need to be based on a global satellite network (which the ACR one is - it's the same emergency beacon network that Aviation and Shipping uses around the globe).I can't tell you how good the ACR works as I have never had to use it and I hopefully never need to. In theory you unfold the antenna - push the button and wait for rescue... Only to be used in dire emergencies with direct danger for loss of life or limb. I have this unit (and also am pleased not have ever used it). In addition to what geobernd outlines above, you can pre-enter your hike destination into their website before you leave so that if your signal goes off, they (Search & Rescue) can find you faster. I hope that it never does anything more than add weight to my backpack. However, if you enjoy deep woods hikes where you might be alone - it is a very good thing to have and much more reliable than things that rely on cell phone technology.
  6. Roger That!!!.... Before I would go caching day to day without any cares in the world, If I left any note or phone call it was so brief only saying “Gone Caching Today” So if I got into any trouble on the trail, like a slip, fall, or if one of the many Sparta bears decided that today was my unlucky day and it should pounce on me, I would of been left to die on the trail... Don't be picking on my Sparta bears...they haven't hurt anyone. Bear mace, a buck knife, a cowardly (big) dog and a liter of water and I am off into the great unknown. I can't wait to get back out there. PS - I always carry a personal location device as well.
  7. I will be leading a Geocaching demonstration and hike for Sparta Mountain Day 2007 which will be held at the Sparta Edison WMA in (you guessed it) Sparta, NJ. This is an area many of you are familiar with as I hosted my Caching Through The Snow Too event hike in this area and Treequest has many great caches here including Edisons Dark Rock Cache. While the details are not yet set, they may be looking for multiple "tours" (easy, moderate, challenging) during the day. I am looking to see if any of you familiar with the area might be available to help if the group sizes get large. Would also be looking for anyone who could loan a GPS for a day. Once I see the demand on the sign up logs, I will follow-up with anyone posting interest in participating. Thanks in advance. TRL
  8. Here is a great view shot from The Broch.
  9. Here are my favorite cache views. They were taken from the following caches: 1). Bearbait 2). FEARGUS I 3). Trailhound was here! 4). Dogz Kittatinny Cache 5). Aye Caramba!! 6). In The Rocks of Gibralter 7). The Other Side 8). Sparta Valley View 9). Buttcracker Suite And a few second shots for good measure.
  10. For me, it's been #1. My son (ACE 2090) needed surgery and will have a lengthy recovery so I haven't been out to place as many as I usually do this time of year (I think I have only hid 10 or 11 over the last few months). I am also placing more work intensive caches - Station Park Kids Cache - "Call of the Wild" probably took 50 hours of work to pull together. I really miss being out so I am hoping my drought won't be too long.
  11. I am not from that area but consider running a pocket query. Go to "My Account" on the geocaching.com home page. On the right hand side, under "Premium Features" and select "Build Pocket Queries". Click "Create A New Query" and now you can build the search you want selecting cache type, size, difficulty or any other criteria. As you work your way down the page, you will find "From Origin" - here if you have the zip code of the hotel you can put it in as starting point and it will build from there. You likely need to be a premium member to use this feature but it is well worth the investment to have this cacpability. Hope that helps.
  12. Here are a couple of mine that have been "forgotten": EPIC 1 - FRUSTRATION Not since October 2005. Stokes State Forest Petroglyph Trail Challenge Not since May 2006. Usually I archive my caches after a year with no finds to free up the area for others. But these are a couple of my favorites.
  13. I am pleased to announce my good friend geobernd hit 1,000 today at Barney's Rubble. Always willing to put up with my bears and extreme weather, I always enjoy caching with him. Congratulations and keep on hunting!
  14. 69 degrees - good temp to go scout a few hide spots. Of course, I need the snow and freezing temperatures to actually place them.
  15. Congratulations! I am pleased to have contributed 10%. Always love reading your logs as they are the best (and funniest). Keep on hunting!
  16. I hid some of the kids Christmas presents out in the woods and made them use the GPS to find them. We came out of the woods with a total of six ticks on us. They are still lurking!
  17. Nice job Brian! My music video looks cool too - unfortunately, I can't seem to put it in a format I can share with anyone. Oh well, next event I'll share it
  18. Congratulations! Great to meet you at CTTS III. Look forward to placing a few more for you. Keep on caching!
  19. All the pictures from the team cams are uploaded to the Caching Through The Snow III page. You guys did a great job on the pictures! Thanks for a GREAT day!
  20. Congratulations Deb and Brian! We should have been doing shots with Pete. Keep on hunting!
