  1. My thoughts exactly. School close by (see one of the FTF logs), houses on three of the exit roads and it is on the roundabout and there is no hint but I am told that it is all in the name. So does this mean the enforcement of the GAGB "Urban" guideline/rule has been quietly dropped in favour of applied common sense?
  2. Send them to Pharisee, he will be happy to make appropriate use of them
  3. Why so many people complaining about so many aspects of Geocaching? Yes it has its faults but you're never FORCED to do a cache. Just get out there and enjoy whatever aspect of caching you like. It's just gone 11am on Remembrance Sunday so think about those who cannot do what we do. As I was sitting quietly for 2 minutes it occurred to me how lucky we are that at a whim we can enjoy the open air. There are those who would give anything to be able to get wet, muddy, stung or whatever in the futile hunt for a worthless plastic box.
  4. Well well! Seems that the situation has now changed (linky) I guess Sven will now have his ban revoked.
  5. You could always commemorate the day by temporarily changing your avatar.
  6. Mind you, they do get to enter the Eurovision song contest!
  7. It's generally accepted that the area to the west of the Bosphorus is Europe and to the east is Asia.
  8. Even back then there was a debate going on about rules being made "on the fly"
  9. Maybe stop any thoughts of Geocaching at 11 minutes past 11 and take two minutes to quietly remember those who gave their lives so that we could live in a world where we can play our silly game in peace.
  10. That's absolutely ridiculous! Anyone who can guarantee to be able to visit their cache within a month is well able to meet the maintenance rule. Anyway, a positive suggestion, have you tried posting your request on the UK Forum? I have no doubt you will get a better response there. Good luck with your cache
  11. The lamp posts in question tend to be in shopping centers and business parks. It's not very hard to find those people responsible for these locations. Ah! Thanks for the explanation. I can see how the landowners in these sort of locations are happy to encourage people onto their land!!! Geocache = Potential customer
  12. As a non American I've never come across one of these (and probably nere will!). From what I understand though the cache is actually hidden underneath a protective "skirt" at the base of the lampost? If that is the case who owns the lampost? And how does the CO go about obtaining permission to place it there? Do these lamposts have any kind of information about the owner to help?
  13. Presumably the person who gave permission to place the cache there in the first place.
  14. Which is why an independent arbitrator might not be a bad thing.
  15. You really think Groundspeak care two hoots about losing $30??? I doubt that very much. I totally agree. I think GS have gone way over the top here but to accuse them of wanting to save $30 or whatever is ludicrous. It's all about control, not about money.
  16. You could always buy a new iPhone 4S and benefit from GLONASS
  17. Wouldn't it be great if there was an INDEPENDENT arbitrator such disputes could be taken to? As was suggested elsewhere, the only appeals process any of us have is through Groundspeak itself. Whilst this is perfectly legal I find it somewhat unsatisfactory given the size and market domination of GS.
  18. What an excellent post! Very well said thebruce0
  19. It is sad that someone who obviously feels passionate about Geocaching has run foul of Groundspeak's desire to maintain absolute control of their view of how the game should be played. It is clear from the whole "Sven episode" than one cannot question the company nor their representatives without fear of censorship or sanction. It should be recognised that Groundspeak is a private commercial company and that they can do whatever they want, within the law, to their customers. However I would have hoped that a mature and responsible company would exercise ultimate power with a little more delicacy than has been shown in this case. I also hope that the power of censorship be restrained to allow a wide ranging discussion here. In Sven's case now that his account has been "locked" does this imply he cannot maintain his caches? In which case will they be allowed to remain active? Also what happens to his Premium Membership fees?
  20. I've no idea what that is and when I look on their website I can't see anything until I create an account. However the graphics give me a strong impression I won't like it! I'll stick with Munzees as an alternative to proper caches thanks.
  21. Excellent! As it's being promoted as a worldwide all encompassing "special" day presumably ALL international caches are included. Those would surely include all the various national Opencaching sites, Terracaches, Navicaches, personal caching listing sites, places such as www.geocaching-france.com, http://www.geocaching.de/, http://geocaching.com.au/ etc.
  22. Duhh! Just found it. Sorry. Wow what a fantastic experience I got to pick up some bits of rubbish near my house and put them in the dustbin. I never had that amount of fun finding Geocaches.
  23. I realise there are other topics on the new challenges but I haven't been able to find the answer to this most basic of questions. Once I have Accepeted a challenge how do I "log" it? I've looked at the FAQ's and all the documentation I can find but I'm still in the dark. It's obviously something so simple I'm missing it but I just can't find a link to a page where I can mark a challenge as completed. Please help!!!!
