  1. I have heard others say that you can have both Topo and City select loaded at the same time but I don't know how to do it, I would like to have them both loaded so I can switch between one and the other for the area that I live in, can someone please tell me how to do this, when I load a map set on it always says erasing previous maps??

    Thanks

  3. I was out in the woods hunting a Geocache when I stumbled on a bench mark it is a elevation marker it says 64.2 ft the location is N28.57.333 W081.44.808

when I did a bench mark search the closest one to that location is over a half mile away so how do I log this one when it's not listed, I took photos of it I would post them but I don't know how, so tell me how I can log it if it's not listed please

    Thanks

  5. Well it all started with a broken speedometer, I had an older Lincoln Towncar that the speedometer broke on, well it was cheaper to buy a Gps and put it on a cell phone holder and use it as a speedometer then it was to repair the speedometer, so I used the gps in the car for three years, then one day we were going to a park we had never been to before to a Civil War Reenactment so I looked up the web page for the park to get directions, and on the web page it said the park had 4 Geocaches hidden there, so I did a web search for GeoCaching and the rest is history,

now I have a PDA a new Garmin 60C and hope to have 150 finds by the end of the year,

  6. Maybe I should be more detailed in my question,

can I dump from my PDA to my gps in my case a Zire 71 to a Garmin 60 can I do this and what is the exact cable part number that I need, I hate to ask so many questions but this seems the be the best place to get answers,

Many thanks to all who answer

  7. Well for stuff that is in town or close by I carry

    PDA

    GPS

    Ink Pen

And I wear a BDU shirt I like the 4 large pockets to keep stuff in,

For long half day hikes or all day walk abouts I have alice gear that holds

    2 mre's

    First Aid kit

    Snake Bite kit

two canteens of water with a pack of powdered gator Aide for each canteen

1 3 ltr Camelbak of just water

    poncho

    cell phone

    leatherman tool

    led headband flashlight

    surefire flashlight

    Electric compass

    backup compass

    camera

    signal mirrow

    Signal whistle

    bear bells

    two pocket knifes

    extra batteries for all electronics

I adjust what I carry to how far I will be hiking you can never carry enough water

I like to hike the trails in the national forest very easy to get lost so I carry a three day supply of water and food as listed, I always show my wife where I will be hiking on a topo map so if I don't report in every night she could send out a search party

  8. After my old lorance Gps got ate by my parrot I am upgrading to a Garmin 60C and while I am at it I am going to get a new PDA as well leaning towards a Palm Zire 71 it's in my price range and from what I hear you can link it to the Garmin to up load caches, true or false? I know the Zire 71 is an older model and the camera quality is not as good as the Zire 72 but I am not getting it for quality photos just as a way to snap a quick cache photo so I guess my question is this will this combo do what I want link my pda to my Gps and what extra hardware soft ware etc, etc, will I need, Please all you cache masters talk to me.

    Many thanks in advance

  9. I have a Palm Zire 31 and I love it except it's not backlit and in the bright outdoors it's useless, you cant see it

I have a Zire 31 and it is backlit and I have no problem seeing the display in the field. Not as good as a transflective display found in higher priced models but certainly adequate for geocaching. In direct sunlight it's not good but in the car, the shade of a tree or backpack it's easy enough to read. Make sure you have the display set on bright and adjust the contrast to the conditions otherwise you won't see it. I recall the default setting wasn't bright and visibility outside wasn't good but after changing the settings it was fine.

IF YOU READ MY POST YOU WOULD SEE THAT I WANT TO BE ABLE TO READ IT OUT DOORS NOT IN MY CAR OR BACKPACK,

  10. Yes you read it right, I went caching today, the worst day of caching I ever had went after 7 found one, I came home placed my Gps on the counter like I have done hundreds of times, and my Daughter Misty a 15 year old Cockatoo, got on the counter and ate it, yup gone! in pieces and parts, I wanted to skin her and make a feather pillow, so now I really have to get a new Gps what is the best place to get a Garmin 60 C

and yes this is a true story!!

where is the best place to buy a new Garmin 60C
