  1. So. OP made a big stink about nothing! The cache was solvable. The cache was there. And all his insinuations were wrong! I assume that he will apologize.

It's my observation that the loudest complainers never apologize when the truth is revealed and they are found to be crying wolf.

But nobody claimed the forums were fair. Anyone can yell "Fire" without any consequences.

  2. Is it time for a Platinum Membership?

The membership would probably welcome it with open arms. It wouldn't hurt the non paying members. The Premium members would still have their same benefits. And a small subset would upgrade. Win-Win it would seem

But for some reasons TPTB seem to be resistant.

Now if the company was suffering like most others in this economy then it would probably already be a done deal, along with a price increase for Premium Membership. ;)

But fortunately (or maybe unfortunately if you would like a Platinum Membership), Groundspeak is doing quite nicely.

    Never hurts to ask.

  3. EarthCache reviewers will exhibit the same characteristics are regular volunteer geocache reviewers with regard to access to their personal information.

Looks to me like most are in the closet and you won't see much personal information.

  4. It's now the first week of the year and we would appreciate an update on the roll-out date of the new process. Thanks. :anibad:

Historically speaking, Wednesdays and Thursdays are most popular (last year) for new code roll out. But I wouldn't look for any official confirmation beyond what the EC.org website says (1st week of the New Year). It just doesn't work that way.

Thanks. At least that's something. :)

Of course, it could be Tuesday. :anibad: I think there was once it happened last year.

  6. For me the log is about the experience. At the simplest I'll write a sentence or two about the circumstances of the find (or dnf as it may be), weather, and so on. Or I might spin a whole story out of it if time and inspiration permit. Usually my logs fall somewhere in between the two.

Minor problems and annoyances, especially those that could affect people seeking the cache, I'll mention. This is usually of the 'there is a bee nest near cache' variety.

Major problems I handle on a case by case basis, I may simply mention it in the log, or send a nice email to owner, or if needed post a NM (or in rare cases SBA). This could be anything from a broken/damaged/muggled cache to an encounter with an land owner or law enforcement official concerned with trespassing.

In general I keep things on the nice side, or at the very least neutral. If I find a cache owner who consistently hides caches that make me want to say something that isn't nice, I simply stop looking for caches by that owner.

RobDJr nailed it for me. Although every couple of years I have been know to go off on a rant about micros!

  7. "World-wide panel of reviewers"? That's about the strangest response I have ever heard a cacher receive from a reviewer! Maybe he needed input from Copenhagen? :P

Personally, I would go no further out than the southern hemisphere! :)

    Falling!

  8. If a link to a video with commercial overtones is there just as window dressing, not created by the cache owner , and not integral to the Listing, I would more than likely question it as well.

Sure. Right. Was that what I was thinking? Must be. OK, that's my story and I'm sticking to it! Thnanks Nomex :)

  9. Hi and thanks for the questions.

As the person who chose the people involved, I can tell you who the new reviewers are, et al. As most of you here well know, however, Groundspeak does not answer these questions in order to respect the privacy of the individuals who have generously raised their hands to perform these tasks. Rest assured they are well qualified.

Those of you who have done some sleuthing on your own have certainly found some answers. Keep in mind that it's a transition time for ECs and so the process continues to evolve for everyone's benefit. That is, what you can find right now is not necessarily the end of the story.

    Stay tuned. Patiently.

Seems like that's exactly what I said, although maybe not quite as eloquently!

  10. Can anyone tell us who the new reviewers are, their (EC) experience, and how many are on the team ;) ? Are they assigned regions?

Sure, as someone with a little insider info I'll take a stab at it.

Please note that these answers are not necessarily in the order asked: :D

    Yes

    No

    Don't know

    Maybe
