  1. Got an error message trying this technique. Hans, why not ask your friend to ask his reviewer if he is the one watching the cache? Deane AKA: DeRock & the Psychic Cacher - Grattan MI
  2. When a gc.com user attempts to access an unpublished cache they get a page with absolutely no options to watch the cache. That being said, there may be a work around that I'm not aware. But that would likely require the visitor to know the GC number of the cache page. Which isn't likely. I'm thinking that the cache owner's reviewer is watching this cache. They have a proximity checker available to them that shows unpublished caches. Has this cache been created for a while now but unpublished? Deane AKA: DeRock & the Psychic Cacher - Grattan MI
  3. You can set up more than one notification for each type of cache. Just set up multiple notifications for published event caches using different center points to cover the areas you desire. Deane AKA: DeRock & the Psychic Cacher - Grattan MI
  4. Till it's not fun anymore. This varies considerablely, depending on the individual cache. A micro in the woods typically has the shortest fuse. Deane AKA: DeRock & the Psychic Cacher - Grattan MI
  5. Hi Melissa, Sure there are. Here they are: Holland State Park: Big Red Big Hill - Great View Tunnel Park: Tunnel Beach Pigeon Creek Park: Pigeon View Have fun, Deane AKA: DeRock & the Psychic Cacher - Grattan MI
  6. Officer, that's my story and I'm sticking to it (said as I'm trying desperately trying trying to hide my GPSr). Rod- walk away from the keyboard, get in your vehicle, and go to the Winter Social. I'll see you there. Deane AKA: DeRock & the Psychic Cacher - Grattan MI P.S. And who was it that asked who Rod is?
  7. Yes, I would agree. Most would. And for others it adds to the challenge. Deane AKA: DeRock & the Psychic Cacher - Grattan MI
  8. Rod is "Rockin Roddy", the originator of a very "to the point" thread from last year, "To trespass or not to....that is the question!, what's YOUR opinion??" that went 8 pages before it digressed to the point a moderator shut it down. Deane AKA: DeRock & the Psychic Cacher - Grattan MI
  9. Rod - Where are you and how come you're not all over this one? Well, I have to say the cache owner did give everyone a great heads up about the park hours. Too bad the FTFer didn't read the cache page better. Otherwise they might have done things differently. No matter what the cache owner says, the true FTF is the first one to sign the cache log book. 10. Sounds like Garmin certainly is with the program on updating the software for their new units. It would appear they are monitoring these threads and finding the weaknesses. So, I'm ready to buy. Where is that information about the rebate? (hint-hint) Deane AKA: DeRock & the Psychic Cacher - Grattan MI
  11. This Is a very excellent question It more useful if you can answer a question instead of just saying it's excellent. Fortunately the answer is here More useful yes. But only if you know the answer. Having a bad day today? Deane AKA: DeRock & the Psychic Cacher - Grattan MI
  12. You will probably have better luck reaching Chicago area cachers using the GONIL (Geocachers of Northeastern Illinois) website. Very active bunch of cachers there. Good luck, Deane AKA: DeRock & the Psychic Cacher - Grattan MI
  13. This is why Michigan cachers need links to Canadian eating/drinking establishment websites where events are being held: For our own protection! Sorry, I couldn't resist Deane AKA: DeRock & the Psychic Cacher - Grattan MI
  14. If the event is being held at a restaurant- name & address - Yes, once on the cache page link to their website - not without prior permission from Groundspeak link to their menu - not without prior permission from Groundspeak Deane AKA: DeRock & the Psychic Cacher - Grattan MI
  15. Right on the money Tequila! Our Michigan reveiwers are in almost the same boat as your Canadian reviewers and I feel for them. Unfortunately GroundSpeaks transparency in the past has been the consistancy of mud. I don't think it's going to change anytime soon. I agree that knowing who your reviewer is helps other cachers to treat them better. I also think that it should be their option to not reveal their identity. Deane AKA: DeRock & the Psychic Cacher - Grattan MI
  16. Two of the issues which absolutely require escalation to Groundspeak are commercialism and solicitation. So, any event where there's "sponsors" and sales of geocoins and t-shirts will get kicked upstairs. That covers a pretty fair percentage. Or, any event that talks about passing the hat for charity X or bringing a toy to give to a needy kid would also get kicked upstairs. If someone sets up a nice, simple event ("let's get together at picnic shelter #8 in City Park for a picnic lunch, followed by geocoin and travel bug trading") then the reviewer will publish them. There's no issue to refer up to Groundspeak. Once an event cache is listed, it is fairly common for owners to edit the event page to add "details." If those "details" are about who is bringing which food item to the potluck, that's fine. If the "details" are to add sponsor logos, and your reviewer sees this or receives a complaint, then the owner is going to hear some follow-up feedback. Not so for Michigan Keystone. Michael has micro-managed his way into reviewing ALL events for the forseeable future. It would appear that the definition and/or enforcement of "commercial" caches and events has evolved recently. Thank you Keystone for stepping up and adding some official clarification. It sure would be nice if the published guidelines pertaining to these issues would be updated to reflect these changes. I'm sure it would have a calming effect on the "insanity" we have been experiencing lately. The Michigan and Canadian reviewers sure have been left hanging in the breeze with this recent policy change. I feel for them. Not a good move on GroundSpeaks part to put their VOLUNTEER reviewers in positions like this. I'm not disputing GroundSpeaks right to make, change, or enforce anything they want. I am disputing the way it is being handled. Deane AKA: DeRock & the Psychic Cacher - Grattan MI
  17. Will a moderator please merge with this thread. They seem to be reaching the same outcome. Deane AKA: DeRock & the Psychic Cacher - Grattan MI
  18. You would think so, but no. It may have been a friend of theirs though. Got his hands slapped there so he came over here to spew. Deane AKA: DeRock & the Psychic Cacher - Grattan MI
  19. CacheDrone answers to Michael who answers to Miss Jenn. Michael and Miss Jenn would be excellent places to politely express your views. The problem is that they haven't really set a rule for this type of thing. There are many other types of questions that have come from this episode that have no rules specified on the site either. Honestly I don't mind if a rule is a rule, but if there isn't a rule or there isn't a truly valid reason for a rule, then we should question it and get a proper answer. Now ellow&beelow, you've been around here long enough to know that isn't how GC.com operates. Deane AKA: DeRock & the Psychic Cacher - Grattan MI
  20. Hello to my northern (and sometimes southern) neighbors- Please know that Michigan cachers are feeling your pain too! All the rules pertaining to listing a cache on GC.com are in constant evolvement. This commercial issue is one that seems to affect many of us personally and we are perhaps a little more sensitive. Cache-tech and CacheDrone are feeling the pain of being put in the middle of this whole mess. They are just the messenger. And venting against your reviewers is counter productive. While I don't agree with this recent enforcement action or the way it was handled, it is GC.com's sandbox and they get to set the rules. We had a Michigan cacher (who is a web developer) step up and offer a free web page to any Michigan cacher who wanted to make a page listing all the things that are now banned on a GC.com event listing. Not a perfect solution but one that works. Deane AKA: DeRock & the Psychic Cacher - Grattan MI
  21. Got that same error page just a minute ago when trying to call up a cache page. Things seem really slow on the cache side tonight. Deane AKA: DeRock & the Psychic Cacher - Grattan MI
  22. I learned this from experience here on the GC forums but I'm going to quote wimseyguy who said it so elequently- You're apparently confusing the forums with the geocaching community. That's kind of like confusing society with talk radio and editorial pages. Deane AKA: DeRock & the Psychic Cacher - Grattan MI
  23. And then I see comments like this that don't offer any help or even try to reason why there isn't a problem....are you just trolling here Deane?? Just letting you all know, in my own special way, that I don't think that anything constructive will come of this thread and that I am counting down the pages until it digresses to the point the moderator will shut it down. Think of me as the time keeper. Deane AKA: DeRock & the Psychic Cacher - Grattan MI
  24. Your adding nothing to the thread other than other than derailment. Go find another thread to derail.
