  1. I'm sure it's all in the delivery, but your opening line there strikes me as "the kind of too much information that sounds more suspicious to LEOs than truthful". I would always wait for a "what are you doing" even if its a foregone conclusion that they want to know what I am doing. I think the furthest I would have gone in response to their greeting was "I'm having a little trouble finding something" with a smile/grimace.
  2. Of course, I'll point out as politely as I can that your first image is one of the (lately) more common cache containers, which some even prefer... hence WatchDog's popcorn. Now I personally don't have a strong opinion either way so I am just pointing out the potential direction of the thread.
  3. Have you been reviewing my latest finds? I think you just described every cache I did in our area lately. Ok maybe only 2... Agreed though. As much as I was happy to find "Don't Tread On Me" I wondered about whether its placement was a good idea. I had totally discounted that idea based on the rule in this thread.
  4. And more maps (aerials, etc.) coming in May for an unknown cost. I'm not a big fan of the Manitoba topo now that I have it installed, but the regional street map that comes with the unit (its on the 4th DVD) is pretty good.
  5. Actually they just plain won't ship to Canada nor will their partners. Glad to see GPSCity has the 60. Hopefully they start to carry the other models as well. I had mine shipped to a parcel depot at the border because I am only 1 hour away. Note that some Canada Customs policies have changed in the past month. You can no longer have a courier or a friend pick it up and bring it back across the border for you. The invoice it was purchased under must have the name of the person who is claiming it at customs as they cross the border.
  6. I swear that yesterday my find count was 138, though today it says 137. Would the site let me know if somebody had deleted my log? I could be totally wrong but I'm unclear how to figure out for sure. All of my latest finds seem to be accounted for (if memory is serving me).
  7. Thanks for this BTW, I used it as part of a puzzle for a church retreat this weekend. Each cache had one word on the log to make the phrase "seek mindfully with guidance from above" - which got them in the draw for either an MBGA 5th anniversary Geocoin or one of 2 other trackables.
  8. I was just there the other day The Recipe Cache The apple pie was baked by a separate cacher for the MBGA Christmas potluck and was delicious. I have to post a recipe still.
  9. And thanks to this post I finally figured out how to get these straight to the SD card... Now if only I could get it to mark the Found symbol. Edit: and it looks like if I include the GSAK extensions I can pretty easily wrtite a Ruby script to replace the symbol with "Found It". Very nice. I'll be doing that later.
  10. I can't find it, but wasn't there a thread about somebody potentially hiding a cache just to lure people to their doom just yesterday? I can't help but notice the similarity to the start of this article.
  11. I agree. Some of the most creative finds I have so far were bison tubes. Obviously its not a lot of fun to go looking for a bison tube hung on a tree, but they make great inner containers for other more interesting hides. I will be looking to buy some to do something similar.
  12. Hey Congrats! There are extra caches which will be available but I don't think there are that many. The biggest difference will be how you get lists of caches to put onto your GPS. If you click on "Your Profile" on the left and then look at the Premium Features section on the right you will see all of the new things available to you. You can set up to be notified when new caches are placed (if you are the type like me who wants to be first) and you can use Pocket Queries to have updated cache details and logs emailed to you as often as you want. Those queries can go straight into whatever you use to load caches onto your GPS receiver. That can make things really quick if you are caching a lot.
  13. I hope that means pre-cut in all cases. I really don't want to buy Xmap, even at the reduced price, for the limited amount of this which I will need to do. I hope the "pricing to follow" is reasonable and doesn't have to be on top of the MapLibrary subscription.
  14. I just sent this to my PN-40 and it worked fine. Same particulars as above.
  15. Tempting, but since Nate asked me to leave it alone I won't touch it. I did just clear my cache though, so I will try creating another and saving it with that option. EDIT: Tried it with another new one and it did the same thing.
  16. I think we are seeing something common. This applied to the one that gave me trouble as well.
  17. I think you have until tomorrow for that. Mine occurred when I tried to delete it. I think the code to change the name to contain a Strikethrough is what broke it. Before seeing your response I tried to delete it again and I was forwarded to a confirmation page that told me it would still exist for my reference until tomorrow.
  18. Mine was originally just the word Osborne. no other characters.
  19. Mine was fine but I decided to use the opportunity to clean up 2 old queries. One deleted fine but the other's name went funny and I cannot get rid of it.
  20. Thanks. Sounds like "buy one or two rather than a large batch" is the best approach. I will find a couple and play around. In the meantime I think I do have a dead harddrive or two around. In fact I think I have a dead laptop drive right behind me I should take home and carefully dissect.
  21. right... so I resurrected this thread to ask about a minimum strength to use as a reference point
  22. I see some of the references above to good places to buy magnets but with so many options at each place I am left with a question about how strong they need to be. Yes I know caches can vary in size greatly but I don't have a reference to judge against. What I do know is that I have seen fairly large, thick fridge magnets that have trouble holding up a single sheet of paper, let alone a small lock n lock with a note pad and a small pencil. I've been more than one site like KJM which list pull force as their measurement so thats probably a good comparison point. So.. how strong do these magnets need to be as a starting point?
  23. Thanks. I did miss that. I'm not going to continue to harp beyond this post because I've reached the point of acceptance (LOL) but it really does seem kinda silly then to not include these changes in the firmware. Perhaps they made that choice less as a limit encouraging you to upgrade, but moreso that they aren't supporting 2 different UIs on the 30/40. As the person who gets those calls from my client for the software my team builds, I can sort of understand that. Since getting the unit I have kinda thought it seemed strange that the UI was so boxy/low-res when the screen itself seemed capable of much finer graphics.
  24. He did? I missed that. I just did another search and all I found was "UI available for the PN-60 only"
