  1. I'm having trouble logging in. On the /login/default... page it always fails. From the front page it's working.

I'm having the same problem. I'm from Manitoba like ertyu.

Although I can't seem to log in from any page.

I tried with Google Chrome under Ubuntu 10 and Firefox under Windows 7. Neither worked, either at the front page or the login/default... page

  2. I just stumbled on this site.

They claim to be creating a database of final coordinates for mystery/multi caches from geocaching.com.

It doesn't seem very high-profile, or well-managed, but I thought others might want to be aware of it.

I know I wouldn't be happy if people started posting the solutions to my puzzle caches -- it kind of defeats the purpose of having a puzzle cache in the first place.

Also, I know some people with multis that have delicate/expensive/other components at the final sometimes depend on the fact that it's a multi to protect it from muggles. This database would undermine that as well.

I'm guessing that there's not much that can be done about it, but I'm curious what other people's thoughts are about it?

  3. I go to a cache (the cache shows on the maps on that page), I click on "View Larger Maps," the larger map comes up. There are no caches showing on that page, I switch preferences, there are no maps showing on that preference either.

    i.e. nice albeit useless maps

I tried logging out and logging back in ... no change

I tried refreshing the map page two or three times ... no change

    Help!

I think you just need to wait -- sometimes the cache icons take a while to show up.

  4. I don't see how to change the default to Google Maps... tried logging out, even cleared cookies/cache.. Any suggestions on how to set google maps as the default?

There was a button at the bottom of the "pop-out" on the left of the map screen, but it seems to have disappeared now while Groundspeak works out the kinks, so you might have to wait to try it out.

  5. Since the site update, whenever I open the map via the "Hide and Seek a cache" menu option, it defaults to Seattle (I assume Groundspeak HQ), instead of my home location.

Logging out and in again didn't fix anything, and I verified that my home coordinates are still set correctly.

Clicking the link to my home location from my profile page opens the map in the correct place, but the default "Hide and Seek" map opens in Seattle.

  6. Here's my dumb act, as logged here for this cache named "The Empress".

My GPSr put me a few metres away from GZ, so I spent several minutes searching the wrong location before deciding to widen my search. Once I did, it was an easy find.

Alas, I discovered that I had lost my writing stick, and had no way to sign the log. "No problem," I thought, "I will just go into the nearby store and ask to borrow a pen." Cheered by this ingenious solution to my problem, I set off across the parking lot.

Upon entering the store, I was wowed by the wonderful displays of merchandise, and quickly began ogling several different items. I purchased a few items and left, making my way home.

Arriving at home, I reached into my pocket for my house key, and pulled out... The Empress, still residing in my pocket. In my frenzied consumerist excitement, I had forgotten to sign and replace the cache!

I turned out that one of my purchases needed to be returned anyway, so I quickly signed the log and made my way back to the cache location. After a quick "drive and drop," the cache was back in its location with no one the wiser. I returned my purchase to the store, and notched this up as a lesson in the wiles of consumerism.

And that's the story of how The Empress decided to take a little stroll.
