  1. I have a 3G iPhone. I have not used the iPhone to geocache. However I have used the GPS when there is no cell service. To answer your question: Yes, the GPS portion of the 3G iPhone works independently of cell phone connectivity.
  2. Changes made from version 2.70 to 2.80: Fixed 3D view not displaying Fixed shaded relief being set to 'Do Not Show' Added setting to change land cover text size WebUpdater is available here: http://www8.garmin.com/support/collection....ct=999-99999-27 .
  3. Uh, that doesn't show the time on my Oregon 300. This is what I do to synchronize the camera to the GPS clock when I want to geotag photos: When the GPS clock advances one minute, I set the camera clock to the correct time. That procedure turns out to be pretty accurate.
  4. Right. It's hard to believe that they release updates with such obvious flaws...well, maybe it's not that hard to believe.
  5. Yes, the battery save option is really nice!
  6. Did they charge you anything for the upgrade/exchange? No Charge! The exchange was free as the Oregon was explained to me as a "comperable unit". Good going!
  7. Amazon has the Garmin Oregon 300 in stock for $393 with free shipping (and possibly no tax) Go HERE
  8. Short and sweet: I suggest either the Oregon 200 or the Oregon 300
  9. Yes, I also received an email about the Nuvi 200 today. The message said the Nuvi 200 was shipped to me on 6 Oct; it is is being sent from amazon.com via UPS. FYI, I made my first purchase with the Discover card on 27 August. .
  10. I have both US Topo 2008 and CA/NV Topo US 24K loaded on my Oregon 300. I can confirm that Mt. Tam trails are shown on Topo 2008, and Mt. Tam trails are not shown on Topo US 24K. .
  11. If only it could be used on your PC as well! I agree with you. I almost decided not to get the map set, but I'm glad I did get the map. Having a 24K Topo base map with City Navigator auto-routing on my Oregon is very nice indeed.
  12. I have the CA/NV map of this series, and it works great in my Oregon. Go here for the review: http://gpsinformation.info/penrod/24Kmaps/twofourmaps.html
  13. Right. MapInstall & MapManager only function if you have certain Garmin map products installed on the computer. MapInstall & MapManager will not work with Garmin map products purchased on a SD card. If you purchase CN 09 NT the DVD will include installation options for both Mac and Windows, depending on what system you install the DVD data. If you install on a Mac you will use MapInstall & MapManager to select map sections for installation on the GPS. I hope that answers your question.
  14. Um, let me make sure I have this right... If I buy City Navigator NT (labeled as Mac compatible) - I also have to download RoadTrip? What I meant by working "directly with the GPS" would be that I hoped I could install City Navigator NT on my Mac, connect the GPS, and do everything in one program -- view/select/install maps regions onto the GPS, move data like waypoints and tracks to/from the GPS, view them on the Mac, etc... without having to run through any other intermediate programs. Does it not work that way? It almost works that way. Rather than get into a detailed description of the necessary steps required, I suggest you go to the Garmin Mac software page and download: Road Trip MapInstall WebUpdater Install the software, attach your Garmin GPS to the Mac via the usb cable, and I believe you will see how your requested actions are achieved on OSX. It all works quite nicely. .
  15. How can you tell it's CN09 rather than 08 or other version? Does the start screen of the GPS show who's copyright & date is on the map data? I am making an assumption that it is CN09. My assumption is based on the following observation. I have CN08 and I noticed that some of the roads on the 24k map do not appear on CN08. I have not noticed any text in the 24k map referring to CN09
  16. I have the CA/NV version; I am using it on an Oregon. It's a sweet map. 24k topo with what appears to be a routable version of CN09 superimposed on the topographic background. ,
  17. Does it work? Yes it does work in the Colorado, and it works great. It's too bad the Oregon doesn't have the same "detour" ability as that of the Colorado.
  18. I don't believe you will be disappointed. I purchased the Garmin 24K CA/NV Topo map and I am delighted with the purchase! Garmin markets the map as a topo map, which is what it is. What Garmin doesn't discuss much, is that the 24K topo map has what appears to be City Navigator 2009 incorporated in to the map. It turns out the map is a routable road map of California and Nevada superimposed on a 24K topographical base map. This is the kind of map of California I have been looking for. Too bad the map can not be loaded into Garmin Mapsource or Garmin RoadTrip. But hey, I'm not complaining! I am using the map in my Oregon; I sold my Colorado.
  19. I don't believe you have any other option other than getting at least OSX 10.4.x, or preferably OSX 10.5.x, which can be purchased from Amazon for about $110 delivered to your door. It is also likely that you will want to add additional RAM to the iMac. Figure another $50 for a Gig of RAM. Then you should be good to go. Of course you can bypass the Mac OSX 10.4 requirement by upgrading the Vista hcx software using a Windows box.
