  1. Well, if we are going to talk about tenths of an ounce, I find your statement disingenuous and somewhat misleading. You are quoting the weight of the Montana with the three optional "AA" batteries installed within the Montana. The Montana ships with a single Li-ion battery which when installed within the Montana, gives a total weight of 10.2 ounces. Yes, 1.5 ounces less than the weight of the Montana with the 3 AA batteries installed. My opinion is that I will gladly accept the additional weight IF the screen is bright in the sun and IF Garmin uses a SIRF GPS chip. Otherwise I'm staying pat with my Oregon 300.
  2. Yes, I agree. That is also my plan.
  3. Allory, Thanks for the heads-up... once again!
  4. I have a 300; I upgraded to 3.81 beta. Based on Redwood Mtn Biker's statement that he is able to receive WAAS with the 3.81 beta update, I enabled WAAS on my 300 and yes, I show excellent WAAS reception in the San Francisco Bay Area, California.
  5. BaseCamp version 3.01 for Macintosh OSX now available http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=4450
  6. You mean this new one, or ??? Not 100% sure what you meant. If you hadn't found the previous version, 2.0.1 is out here: http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=4449 Sorry, I should have been more specific. I am looking for the Mac version of BaseCamp version 3
  7. Still waiting for the Macintosh version of BaseCamp
  8. Are you basing that on the screen shots or the real screen? I actually think the lighter screen shots look better in most cases too but on the real Oregon screen I haven't seen a custom map yet that I like. My judgement was based on the screen shots. Thanks for your additional comment.
  9. I believe that "washed-out" has a negative connotation which is unduly harsh. After looking at the comparison images, I like the "lighter-toned" images better. My main reason for preferring the "lighter-toned" images is that they appear easier to view, and anything that can make my Oregon 300 screen easier to see is a good thing! Just my 2¢
  10. I have the same HRM, and I use it with the Oregon 300. It works fine.
  11. Excellent! I have a number of uses for this additional GPS ability. Good going, Garmin.
  12. I am running Mac OSX 10.6.2 I used WebUpdater for the Mac and I was able to update from 3.42 beta to 3.50. However, in the process I lost all of the custom settings I made to my Oregon 300. I have since reinstalled my custom settings. EDIT: Correction, I did not lose my custom profile settings. After the firmware update, the 300 reverted to the Garmin Recreational profile. I simply changed from the default Recreational setting to my custom profile setting. EDIT#2: The magenta "goto" line no longer appears. Suggestion: This is a faulty firmware update, do not upgrade to version 3.50! Question: How does Garmin test their firmware updates? Answer: By using the Groundspeak forum!
  13. Apparently not. See THIS POST on CandlePower Forums
  14. I also have an Oregon 300 and Garmin Oregon bike mounts. I have never experienced the problems you describe. I have mounts for both a mountain bike and a road bike. The Oregon performs flawlessly on both bikes.
  15. Garmin 60CSx: $286 including shipping. Available at BuyDig. http://tinyurl.com/n22jhs Full Disclosure: I have absolutely no relationship with "BuyDig," other than purchasing a camera from them a few years ago... I was pleased with their service.
  16. Garmin 60Cx: $220 including shipping. Available at Costco. http://tinyurl.com/kpr5y5
  17. I have a 300 and a Macintosh. I upgraded from 3.0.1 beta to 3.1 with Webupdater 2.0.6 for OSX and I had no problems.
  18. Thanks to Allory Deiss http://www.gpsinformation.org/allory/new.htm
  19. Review this site; it may have what you are looking for http://www.mapsntrails.com/en/Europe/Trails
  20. Oregon 300 2.98 update is here: http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=4393
  21. Load My Tracks will enable you to see your tracks in Google Earth...among other options. Ascent connects to the Internet and shows the map of your location...plus many other bells and whistles. Load My Tracks is free. An Ascent demo can be downloaded for free, with the limit of having a max of 10 different routes. The unlimited version is $30 (if my memory serves me correctly...which is not always the case!) Bottom Line: The Oregon works well with Mac OSX running on an Intel CPU
