  1. Yes, initially I was also unable to download. Did you disable "Passive Mode (PASV)" on your ftp client? If not, doing that should resolve the problem. Otherwise, it may be that the NHD ftp server is just being difficult, I had problems with the web site. Try later in the evening. Quote from the server: Please Note: If you are having problems connecting to the FTP site, you may need to disable you passive FTP setting in Internet Explorer. To change this setting click Tools -> Options -> Advanced and scroll down about half way until you find a checkbox for 'Use Passive FTP...'. If you uncheck this box, you should be able to get to the FTP site. .
  2. I think if it's only a vacation that I would second finding a copy of MetroGuide for Europe. City Navigator is twice the price for European maps than North America. I agree. I did an 11 day trek in the French Alps this past September. I brought my 60Cx and had it loaded with Metroguide Europe 9. Surprisingly, the MetroGuide map had the GR54 trail, the trail we hiked, on the map. I also used MetroGuide Europe 9 while we were in Paris. It all worked out very well. I am delighted that I brought the 60Cx and MetroGuide Europe with me to France. .
  3. All of the California NHD data and California NED data is now complete. I grabbed 84 NHD quad ftp links today, some are duplicate files, but I wanted to make sure we give IndyJpr all of the necessary data. I still have 64 quads to download from the government ftp server, but dealing with that finicky USGS NHD Geodatabase web site should be finished. IndyJpr, I want to thank you again for your generous offer to process California and the other western states. I know that your wonderful topo maps will be well used by many grateful GPS users. I will send you the data I collected today no later than Thursday. If any of the data is corrupt or missing please let me or Marky know, and we will grab the necessary files. Marky, I also want to thank you for the work you put into this project. Without your fast Internet connection and your perseverance, the project would be less than 25% complete. Barrikady
  4. I have a Colorado 300. I have the following maps loaded on a 2GB card: Part of Topo 2008 Part of MetroGuide North America 8 It all works fine. BTW, my MetroGuide has been modified to do routing, and that works perfectly. .
  5. Ok, I started at San Francisco and worked my way down two or three rows. I will attempt to get the remainder of CA south of the Bay Area today. .
  6. I purchased a Colorado and am ready to sell my 60Cx. Comes with City Navigator 7 North America (not NT version). 512mb MicroSD card included. Original packaging. Original owner. InvisibleShield on screen. Bicycle handlebar mount. Prefer San Francisco Bay Area sale. Come by and check it out. Will consider shipping if necessary. Works fine, no problems. I will include a copy of Topo 2008 for an additional $25. $245 firm price if picked up in San Francisco Bay Area. Otherwise, buyer pays for shipping of his/her choice. If the buyer picks up the unit, cash will be required. If I ship the unit, shipment will take place after the check clears. No Western Union payment, no shipping outside of the United States. barrikady AT gmail DOT com .
  7. Marky, I mailed my California data to IndyJpr today. In addition to the 25 NED quads that you are aware of, I also included about 25 NHD quads. Unless you have grabbed all of the NHD we are probably still short on the NHD data. Go HERE to see the data I sent to IndyJpr I am prepared to grab additional NHD quads, but I just don't know which NHD quads you have already downloaded. What do you suggest? .
  8. I am also finished with the NED data. I have started to gather the USGS links to the NDH data; it's actually going faster than I expected. I have gone through 15-16 quads and I have received the FTP links to the USGS site that has the data. My request for the data will be available for 14 days from the date of the request. Rather than download the data now, I will download the data within the next few days. Marky, we haven't agreed on a plan for selecting the quads. I will defer to your suggestion. In the meantime I have grabbed links to the NHD data for the following quads: Monterey Mendota Fresno Mt Whitney Saline Valley Point Sur Coalinga Visalia Three Rivers Darwin Hills Cambria Paso Robles Delano Isabella Lake Ridgecrest .
  9. Marky, I have completed IVANPAH, #40, through OAKDALE, #61. I would appreciate your assistance. I am impressed with your Internet connectivity. If I am not mistaken San Jose has Verizon as the local telephone company. Do you have Verizon FiOS connectivity? Barrikady I'll take #66 through #79. That leaves you with 4 more to go. Is that ok? Edit: I have AT&T/Pacbell/Yahoo DSL. It was Pacbell back when I started. Thanks for the assistance. I'll grab #62-#65. I also have AT&T DSL. Your throughput certainly seems to be faster than mine. .

  11. 1. Yes. 2. Push and hold down the button to the right of the rock n roller for about a second.
  12. Whoa, you must have a great connection. I have been in a queue of up to 122 downloaders ahead of me. I am on my 12th quad and it is going slowly.
  13. Jon, I have used http://gpsnow.com a few times and have been pleased with the service and price. Update: I just checked the gpsnow website and they only ship to the United States. Thanks for your input, Just curious, what what issues do you feel are not fixed by the most recent update? /Jon Oh my, that question has some very complex answers! I believe it is best answered by THIS Groundspeak forum.
  14. Jon, I have used http://gpsnow.com a few times and have been pleased with the service and price. I purchased my Colorado 300 from them. Update: I just checked the gpsnow website and they only ship to the United States.
  15. Yes. I started from #41 So far I have: IVANPAH LAGUNA HARBOR LAKE ALMANOR LAKEPORT LANCASTER LAS VEGAS LAST CHANCE RANGE LODI LONG BEACH LOS ANGELES Help, we can use some more people to download the CA quads...thanks. If you can help, please start downloading from SALTON SEA, #80. .
  16. It works for me on both of the following: IE 6 on XP (w/ SP2) IE 7 on Vista It works for me with Macintosh OSX 10.5.2 and Safari. .
  17. Looks good. Here is a gradient representation of the raw data: And here are 40ft contours generated from a portion of that data: Nice! I have done quads 41-44: IVANPAH, LAGUNA HARBOR, LAKE ALMANOR and LAKEPORT. How do you suggest I send the quad data to you? My preference would be to burn the data to a CD or a DVD and mail the disk to you. Attention California GPS'rs. There are 115 quads covering the state of California. It appears that each quad consists of 4 separate downloadable sections. If there were 5 or more people each downloading 20 quads we can quickly provide the data to IndyJpr who has graciously offered to convert the data to a 40' contour California topo map that can be used in a Garmin GPS. I can do 40 quads, but I would prefer to do 20. So I'm in for 41-61. Anyone else ready to step up? .
  18. Hi Barrikady, The data in columns B and C are not used - I should probably have hidden those columns. The data in columns D, E, F, and G are entered into the Lat/Lon boxes of the dialog: Column D goes into the top box. Column E (keep the negative sign) goes into the left box. Column F (keep the negative sign) goes into the right box. Column G goes into the bottom box. Hope that helps, Yes, thank you, your instructions were helpful. I am downloading my first quad. I would like to send you my first download so you can see if I have downloaded the data correctly. The first quad is about 45 mbs. I can put the file on my server and I can give you the URL to download the data, if that works for you. .
  19. I've only done 4 so far, so this is going to take me a while. Maybe if there are others interested in the California, we could split it up and get it done faster. I'll take the first 40 on the above list for now, so if anybody else is interested, post here which rows you are going to tackle. --Marky Marky, I would like to participate in getting CA data. I have IndyJpr's spreadsheet, and have followed his instruction until: Here you enter the coordinates for an area (remember that east and west values have to be negative) and click on the "Add Area" button. I'm not sure what info needs to be put into the National Map Seamless Server. So, for example, item 41 of the CA quads is Ivanpah. Where on the National Map Seamless Server should I put the data from B through G of the CA quads?
  20. Baumer, Thanks for your suggestion. I tried your advise and I still am unable to make unique profiles. For example, lets say I want a profile that defaults to my Topo 2008 map. I can set that up, but if I decide I want a second profile, lets say using CN NA 2008, and not using topo, then after I set that up, if I go back to my topo profile, the chosen map is CN NA 2008, no longer Topo 2008. I am unable to have different profiles with different map settings.
  21. I'm not positive what you are asking, but if you are asking how to create a new profile, here are the steps: --Marky Marky, Thanks for the illustrated step by step instructions. I am aware of those steps, and have attempted them before, without success. Here is my problem: I am unable to figure out how to save the different parameters for each profile I create. After I create a profile, if I then create a second different profile, the parameters of both profiles are exactly the same. I am unable to figure out how to save different profiles with different parameters. Two questions: When do you set the different parameters? Before or after creating the profile? Once you create a profile is the profile editable or static? Thanks for your advice.
  22. Use an automotive and a geocache profile. Have autorouting setting in one, off-road in the other. Switch profile and recalculate. I have been trying to set up specific profiles on my 300, but have not been successful. I have assumed that the software is not yet able to do Profile Changes. After I updated to firmware 2.40, I hoped to be able to make a specific profile, but still no luck. Am I missing something, or are Profile Changes still not implemented?
  23. I had the same problem when I got my 300 in January. It was almost impossible to slide the back off the device. That was easily resolved by getting some silicon grease and lightly putting the grease on both the case and removable back where they both touched. In addition, I put some silicon grease on the o-rings that protect for water intrusion. It's all good.
  24. I have had my 300 since January 23. I never noticed any problems with the clock, but I didn't aggressively monitor the Colorado clock. I just did that now. !. I started the Colorado, and as soon as it was on, I disabled the satellite receptivity. The 300 did not have satellite connectivity for approximately 6 hours prior to this current restart. 2. The clock has been keeping accurate time for at least 30 minutes since the restart. Colorado 300-2.3/2.6. MediaTek GPS chip
